  1. I think that HFCs are one of the best mods that you can do. As said they do add a lot of volume, but you also get a nice and pronounced change in tone as well.

That’s the point though, the hard work is what makes it fun for us luddites.

The 370Z has just a fraction less torque than an E92 M3, so the BMW would be just as easy to pootle around in with either gearbox.

What I love about the 370Z is that the engine actually feels torquey for a naturally aspirated engine, whereas I always thought that the E92 M3 felt like it was lacking in torque in comparison for some odd reason though.

I’d love to try it in a manual, I bet that would be epic though. Then again, I’m the guy that has a manual 520d Touring and adore that, even though I know the auto would suit it much better 🤣

I regretted going for the manual in my E61 520d Touring, and I personally think that the auto suits the engine better.

Quite a thing when the experience of a "driver's car" is enhanced by loosing a pedal

Agreed. Don't get me wrong I love a 3 pedal manual, and both my 370Z and Caterham 7 are manuals. However the S65 V8 engine in the E9x M3 really benefits from the DCT I think as you say.

I owned an E92 DCT coupe for 16 hours, before I realised I wasn’t thrilled about the purchase so got my deposit back, popped over the road and bought a 997.2 instead. Not an ounce of regret.

And yet, as I get older I almost wish I’d kept it longer. As a car, it ticks every single box I would ever want from one: high revving V8, stunning chassis, will cruise in comfort or play the hooligan. My loss.

The 911 was a much better car in every aspect though :D

I only had mine 10 months, but I did cover 10k miles in it in that time though. The chassis and ride(it had the EDC) were very high points for me, and the induction noise was to die for I thought.

Overall I much prefer the DCT F82 M4 that I have now as a daily(faster/much more torque/better on fuel etc), however that just can't compete noise wise or ride wise to the E92 M3 though for me. The ride in the M4 is rock hard in comparison, and I've only got the 19" wheels on mine(the Comp Pack has 20" wheels so I dread to think how hard the ride is in that!).

Having just left behind an E90 M3, I'll have to say it was a level above the Z. What it lacked in head turning appeal, it made up with pure driving joy.

Whilst I wasn't keen on finally getting an auto, the DCT and high revving engine made it pure joy blasting on motorways and B roads. It was more fun being able to comfortably take 3 other adults with me on my journeys.

The V8, with an aftermarket intake and M performance exhaust was the best experience for my soul. If you can afford to buy and weekend one, do it. Well worth every sweet penny.

The Z was good, but it needs too much tinkering to sort the suspension and wheel hopping out. The BMW works fresh out the box.

I think I would've gelled a bit more with mine if I'd gone for the DCT rather than the manual with it being my daily. I only did 10k miles in mine, but there were times with the manual if you were in the wrong gear it could feel quite gutless. I think the DCT helps to eliminate that I reckon.

Plus with the manual the gears are so long as well. Third gear at 8400rpm is 110mph in the manual, and for quick overtakes I always needed to drop it into second, but then you'd almost immediately crash into the limiter and then grab for third.

I found it more of a frustrating experience with the manual, when on paper the manual should've been a pleasure really.

My brother in had an E93 M3 Convertible with the DCT that he kept for 11 years(only used as a weekend car), and he loved it to bits.

Nice Z4M, they sound amazing with the correct exhaust, i hope you enjoyed it and it is a shame that you no longer have it as they have gone up in price.

    Thanks.

Most of the cars I've had in the past have gone up in price as well. Both the TVR Cerbera 4.5 and the E92 M3 I had went up in price as soon as I sold them too!  Just my luck! :D

I'm glad/grateful that I got to experience them though for sure. :)

Good eye, you know it fella.

It is just so immaculate too. I've been on the Z4-Forum since back in 2012 so I've seen it on there a few times. Plus I've seen it a few times on PistonHeads as well. It is such a lovely car for sure. :)

My old Z4, which i still think drives and sounds better than the 370.

I used to have a Z4M Roadster and I personally think the 370Z Roadster sounds much better. However the Z4M was standard though, whereas the 370 has HFCs and an upgraded exhaust on it though.

You couldn't even hear the exhaust roof down at speed in the Z4M for example. Plus I much prefer the ride/suspension/manual gearbox in the 370 as well.

With sports mode engaged they'll have extra pops and bangs utilising fuel dump on over run or between up shifts.

Maybe for a TT V6 it doesn't sound bad, however coming from a N/A lineage it'll alway suffer. Think e46 and e92 M3 to F80 M3 - sound wise the older cats have it. I think manufacturers use artificial noises to give more character to an otherwise dull sounding oe exhaust.

I used to have an E92 M3 and I've now got an F82 M4. The E92 M3 definitely sounds much better as you say(especially the induction noise for me), however because I use them as daily drivers, the M4 wipes the floor with the M3 for me. I'd probably consider the E9x M3 as a weekend car though I reckon.

Everything seems to count against the M3 as a daily to me. They weigh 1650kg, but only have 295 Ib/ft of torque, and max power is at 8300rpm as well. So unless you're absolutely thrashing the backside off them, they can feel quite unrewarding and frustrating to me. Plus the brakes are garbage in them too. Not to mention 17/18 mpg too!

The M4 is lighter/faster, and has far better brakes, plus it has 406 Ib/ft of torque. In my hands doing the same journeys it is also just over 10 mpg better on fuel as well. I'm not sure I'd want the F8x M3/4 as a weekend car though, because they arguably aren't special enough for that I reckon.

There are also people on here who choose tyres based on looks... so there's that.

I was exactly the same as that years ago with the tread pattern on the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D2 on my S14a 200SX. I had a pair of Adidas trainers with the exact tread pattern on the soles to match! :D

  12. I've always found it fascinating that it is different on the Coupe to the one on the Roadster for some reason. I don't catch the front lip on my Roadster very often(it is a fair bit smaller than the one on the Coupe which helps I think), but I do catch the undertray quite a lot going over speed bumps though.

Now I want 370 nismo seats even more in my 350 🫣

I'd love those nismo seats and sexy seat backs in my 370 too...the only trouble is I have the roadster so I'd never get to look at/see them though!

Recaro seats are properly cool as it is for me, and those seat backs are just the cherry on top for sure.

Both great tyres with great wear resistance.

I'll need some new MPS4s on my rears soon.

May try the continental when I need to change the full 4 in a couple of years.

As the MPS4S will almost be a 10 year old model by then and will probably get discontinued soon.

Hate having to replace a set of rears only to find  sourcing difficulties to match  the fronts coz they've been discontinued

Sometimes they keep making them though. I have MPSS on the F82 M4 and they are a 10 year old model next year, yet I didn't have any trouble getting hold of them in April this year for some new front tyres for it. So hopefully they will keep doing the MPS4S too.
