So MAF plugged in you get problems, MAF unplugged it runs fine albeit on the default map?
99% sure it’s the MAF then.
Hi Dan, thanks for the quick reply!
My first impression was MAF on Friday however after watching the MAF working via the OBD, changing voltage/resistance I dont think it is the MAF... Would a dodgy MAF be so sudden? It was running sweet before that point

I have owned my 2004 DE 350z for 3 years now and hasn't had a single problem and has been a pleasure to drive, own and modify... Performance mod wise it has an ARK Grip exhaust (cat back) and air box velocity stack mod all of which have been on the car 2+ years so shouldn't be related to the problem below.
Half way to work Friday, I was coming off a mini roundabout in 3rd gear and I decided to put my foot down and the car instantly gave up, engine was still running however throttle inputs were unresponsive no EML no pre warnings. Luckily I managed to coast/roll to a lay by on the side of the road before the engine stalled... In the lay by I decided to try restarting the car, to my amazement it started just like normal on the key revving to 1500-2000rpm, however the revs slowly declined (3-5 seconds) resulting in the engine stalling with any throttle input unresponsive. Temps were normal (just below half), fuel was 3/4 tank no lights on dashboard.
Following multiple inspections and further failed start ups as a last ditch effort I decided to unplug the MAF and amazingly it started, albeit with the EML, traction control and ESP lights on however these were due to unplugging the MAF. I was able to get to work that morning and drive it back using the default map/limp mode, where the cars idle would fluctuate and wouldn't exceed 2500rpm. The exhaust smelt a bit aswell which I think is due to the base A/F map?
This weekend I got the car plugged in to check any fault codes, the codes being P0102 MAF SEN/CIRCUIT, P0113 IAT SEN V HI, C1130 ENGINE SIGNAL 1 and C1109 BATTERY VOLTAGE [ABNORMAL]. All relating to the MAF being unplugged
The fault codes were cleared and MAF plugged back in, all lights on the dashboard gone and no fault codes, however the car still starts then dies after 3-5 seconds. I can see the MAF is working as the voltage/resistance is changing when running for the 3-5 seconds. It doesnt look like a MAF problem, it looks to be a fuelling issue, however I thought the pumps/filter are supposed to last a lot longer than 79k miles? The car has been ran on ONLY BP Ultimate Unleaded since owning the car
Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Following on from the previous thread, now I have listened to the vids it sounds exactly the same as mine. Keep us posted as I would like to know exactly what it is, as I guessed it was a noisy bearing along the gearbox shaft
-
That should be fine as the transmission oil interval is 36 months OR 45k miles.
I did put some of the molyslip additive in my gearbox oil which is maybe helping?
-
As Alex has said it wont be the release/throwout bearing. It is most likely a bearing along the input shaft of the gearbox.
My 2004 Z with 75k miles has the exact same noise/symptoms, although mine isnt getting any louder . Do you know when you last changed the gearbox oil?

Im running 10.5J (rear) and 9.5J (front) and running 275/40/18 and 255/40/18
I used this tyre calculator https://www.willtheyfit.com/ when calculating my tyre choice
The key result is the speedo error which you want to keep as close +/- to the OEM tyre sizes, as the traction control is known to be a bit sensitive if wrong tyre sizes are chosen. Also worth to note the profile size will change the speedo error figure, as it changes the rolling circumference

All normal, ECU forces a richer air/fuel (A/F) mixture on start up (hence the initial high rpm) to avoid the engine stalling. Abbey would have tweaked the A/F map/table but I highly doubt they tweaked the cranking table...
-
Looking at the brownish tinge around the edges it looks like underseal overspray, but no idea how it could get there...
-
Im also looking at discs and pads and was going to get the DBA T2 brakes with ferodo ds2500 pads but after seeing your link and a quick forum search for reviews you have made my choice alot harder!
Link to forum post https://www.350z-uk.com/topic/112836-vented-and-grooved-performance-brake-discs/
Everyone has had positive reviews about them!
I would avoid EBC disks as ive read they are worse than OEM!

So I've just got home and done the engine oil and filter. Never known a car so easy to service before in all my life the sump plug and filter are so easy to access. The car certainly seems better for it anyway and I used Castro edge 5w30 fully synthetic with a k&n filter. Next on the list is gearbox and diff oil with some added mollyslip.
Welcome! The paintwork doesn't look too bad from the photos...
Ive got mollyslip in my gearbox, worked wonders! Your not planning on putting mollyslip in the diff are you? As it could lock the differential as they are quite sensitive to oil viscosity, let alone what the additive could do!

25/11/2016 Tarmac Sportz Side steps + Samco Hoses + Coolant change
Soo side steps arrived a couple of weeks ago, just haven't had any time to fit them so decided to set a weekend (Saturday) to fit them and start my engine bay dress up with a set of samco hoses!
Dad and brother were also there doing a few bits, and I had to take a picture of all 3 Nissans/Datsun in the workshop

That will work perfectly!

I would personally use PVC fascia board like the Lexus example you posted, as its more flexible than ABS giving it some flexibility against any knocks or scrapes, regarding thickness they only come in standard thicknesses, any of them would be suitably rigid enough to create the side steps/diffusers. They also come in a black finish so wouldn't need painting!

Hi mate if you Google ultra racing brace for 350z you will see a thread from this forum saying different
Hi Paul, the GT spec brace is not a replacement as it uses different fixing locations, however the ultra racing brace uses the same fixing locations, ZMANALEX himself shows an image of the ultra racing brace and GT spec brace installed at the same time without the OEM W brace in an image on this thread

Hi mate your zed is looking great, the ultra brace is not a replacement for the w brace they are ment to be used with oem w brace some one correct me if I am wrong about this
Nop the ultra racing brace is a straight replacement

Could be one of many things, spark plugs, pcv valve, dirty throttle body, could even be a vacuum leak... Does it only idle rough when it is up to temperature?
-
My setup is 9.5J at the front and 10.5j at the rear (so just 1" wider than yours) tyres sizes are 255/40/18 and 275/40/18, I know its not exactly the same but should give you an idea? Images are in my build thread link below

Ive got the same wheels, although I went with a +15 offset on the rears and different tyre setup, pics are in my build thread http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/106564-avery-gloss-pearl-white-350z-build-thread/page__st__20

Dont think it is the GT style lip, looks more like a Mines style front lip
