  1. Guys,

    Here is my cars history:

    9264 miles - P1

    16755 miles - P2

    21715 miles - P1

    29812 miles - P3

    34854 miles - P1

    37463 miles - P2

    420421 miles - P1

    48764 miles - P2

The car currently has 52000 miles, it's a 55 plate. I am wondering if it would be overkill to complete a complete oil change (engine, diff, gearbox) however I don't want to throw away £120 in fluids if it isn't necessary. At what point in the above would a complete oil change have been done? At the P3? If so, that was in Sept 2009 so I'd consider doing the changes myself. The plugs were done at in Sept 2010 at 35000 miles (17000 ago) and the car runs great so I'm going to presume these are good for another 10-20k.

Essentially, my question is - is the car due a service?

I must hasten to add, the car runs absolutely spot on in every area - I am purely concerned about keeping the history and service record up to date.

    Appreciate your help.

    Alex

  2. Sorry to hear about this, I had the same on my previous car but unfortunately the offender decided to leave without providing any details.

Any accident whether that be fault/part-blame/non fault, will impact your premiums (generally in that order of cost). There is no hard and fast rule. Believe me, I've been in the Industry for 7 years and I've seen claims make no difference and I've seen claims make insane differences. It just depends on the overall risk, EG:

    • 17 year old pays £2000 at year 1, has a fault accident, renewal premium is sent out at £4000. He/she shops around and see's a quote for £2200
    • 45 year old with 9 years protected NCB pays £350 at year 1, has a fault accident, renewal premium is sent out at £420. Shops around and finds a price of £360
    • 45 year old with 9 years NCB unprotected pays £320 at year 1, has a fault accident, NCB is reduced to 3 years for renewal, renewal premium is sent out at £540. Shops around and finds a price for £400

It really is so variable it's almost pointless discussing it.

  3. FedEx came at 8:30am and dropped of this INSANELY HEAVY package. Thanks to Ewen at Clarke Motorsport for great communication and the next day delivery, not forgetting the jelly snakes :teeth:

Mid-way through fitting, it took about 3 hours as some of the bolts were being a little stubborn.

I've followed the bed-in procedure and they are feeling great.

  4. Cheers Tim, good to meet you and Gumpy (James...?), be good to make it a regular thing.

The crash in Spain was my first accident on track, bloody typical that I'd just spent £700 on new boots and a race suit which have some pretty heroicic scars now! But, at least they done their job as I didn't have a scratch on me, just ligament damage from twisting my knee.

  5. Has the car recently been cleaned? Could be some product on the discs being burnt off.

My old Type R used to cook brakes, but only if I was driving like a total bell end or on track.

  6. I may want to change to braided hoses and RBF600 fluid, I'll be using a vacuum kit. My question is, I will need to drain the entire system of the DOT4 before using the silicone based fluid (I'm aware they don't mix) - In doing this, the mastercylinder will of be emptied. Have you all bled the master cylinder using the vacuum method to good effect or did you just pull the fluid through the system using the bleed nipples on the calipers.

    Thanks
