  1. Thanks guys for your input. Quick update, I've been to a local bodyshop I've used before in Derby for a quote. Reason for using them previously is I had a recommendation that they were good, and they were, perfect finish, possibly better than original, but they're probably expensive, but I didn't want to risk going elsewhere as had no idea who else to use.

     

    Anyhow, the guy said he'd have to do the whole roof to do a proper job and remove the side sills (whatever they're called) because of the stiff seal down the sides. He confirmed he'd take it back to metal and make sure no rust remained. So for that he quoted about 300, the reason I say about is because I'm having some polishing done to fix some overspray on the bonnet, wing and bumper from a previous job.

     

    Not sure how to proceed now, I obviously want a proper job and am prepared to pay.

  2. Hi

     

    After a bit of info/advice. I’ve just noticed a small rust mark on my roof that’s bubbled up slightly (didn’t notice it when I bought the car, only when cleaning for the first time) and wondered what the best course of action would be. I’m thinking rub down and spray, but would that mean a full roof re-spray (not the end of the world as it’s a small (ish) area and if so how much would you guys expect to pay for a roof spray?

  3. May seem like a strange question this, but could someone help me out by telling me what length the clear tube that's attached to the washer bottle cap should be please? It's a 2008 HR if that makes any difference.

     

    I've just received a new one as it was missing when I picked the car up and it needs to be cut because it obviously just comes as a standard very long length. But I've tried working it out by feeding it in to the bottle but it never stops so obviously it's curling up in the bottle. I know I could just cut it any length and not worry about it going to the bottom, but hey want it to be right.

  4. Doing my best driving miss daisy impression on the A52 with cruise on and I just heard the thunder of a zed fly past me, sounded a real treat. Ended up having a chat at the first lights we came to, think he said he had a straight through Cobra, bit too loud for me personally, but it did sound amazing.

     

    Bit of a novelty having another driver stop for a chat at the lights, one new experience the zed has given me. :thumbs:

  5. Sargara - did you buy the 04 grey model? I the car in the petrol just after I picked mine up from them on Saturday. I remember asking them for the keys for that one to compare a couple of bits with the one I bought and the batteries were flat.

     

    I must admint my experience was a much better one than yours from start to finish. I spent ages looking over the car and they just came out to me once asking if they could help, I said I'm ok for now and they left me alone until I went to ask them for the keys and service book. They just gave me the keys and again left me to my own devices for a good while, got the chance to start it up and leave it to warm up and give it a really thorough looking over.

     

    When I finally went in to talk numbers I think I ended up with a fairly good deal, probably could/should have pushed for more, but I was happy with the deal given I was being lazy and traded in my passat estate. Once numbers agreed, went back the next day (when the forecast was for better weather), took it for a drive, again he just gave me the keys for me and my dad to go out on our own, which I was surprised about to be honest, so that was a result and he said to take as long as I like. Much different to previous test drives of the salemans taking you off the forecourt and only allowing a set 10 minute route.

     

    After the test drive we did notice a couple of bodywork issues, stone chip on either side of the bonnet (to be expected obviously) and some peeling of paint on the bottom of the bumper, poorly resprayed in the past. So to sweeten the deal he offered to have the bumper repsrayed and the chips touched up (which I could have done, but it saved me a job).

     

    They did offer me the warranty which I accepted, although I'm sure it will be as much use as a chocolate teapot, but I feel a tiny bit more re-assured that if anything goes wrong I have some sort of cover and after reading the forum all I seem to see is problems, but I know problems will always be raised on forums, so fingers crossed mine is solid. So good so far anyway. I certainly didn't feel obliged to accept the warranty and would have been more than comfortable saying no, which I did to the offer of buying three years warranty for £1200 :scare: .

     

    The main reason for me going to them was that J17 (Notts and Peterborough) have plenty of zed's and I wanted a trade purchase rather than private and ther prices seemed right to me. Possibly not to all though, especially the more experienced of you guys on here.

  6. a2orry - good shout on the tyre pressure and oil levels, did the tyres (good job, they were down to 32 and 30), not done the oil, will do that tomorrow. May be a silly question, but do you guys tend to top up to max or keep it in the middle of the stick.

     

    As an update, spent the afternoon cleaning the inside, was pretty clean obviously but they'd used that sticky shiny stuff on all the plastic so had to get that off asap and had a wipe around the engine bay, but that was as clean as I'll ever bother to get it in fairness.

     

    On the drive home I must admit I was struggling pulling off and with my changes from 1st to 2nd, got a little better as the drive went on, but it could take some time to pull off like I've been driving as long as I have (about ahem 17yrs). Can't wait to really open it up, was only tickling it today being new and wet. Loving the sound of it :teeth:

     

    One thing I did spot while under the bonnet is that the coolant bottle had no cap on it, can't believe I didn't spot that when I had a check under there before picking it up. Anyone any idea where I may be able to pick one up on a Sunday?

  7. Cheers guys. Just got home, was planning on spending the afternoon washing, polishing ans waxing, but the damn weather put a stop to that. May just switch out the aerial for the new stubby (should take about 30 seconds) and possibly have a go at spraying the inside door handles, the chocolate seems to have rubbed off a bit. Will get some pics up if it stops raining.

  8. Just on my way to pick my 350 up and plan to leave it on the drive and commute 40 miles at least twice a week, so hopefully its not too fragile.

     

    Totally get why people would garage/cover especially if its a weekender, always clean ready for a drive then, happy days.

  9. So, I'm on my way to pick up my new car, a silver (or is it grey?) 350 from Junction 17 in Nottingham. Chopping in my 56 plate passat estate, so it's a bit of a change for me and the running costs may take some getting used to. Fingers crossed they've sprayed the bumper and mot'd as promised.
