  1. Late to the party as always but I find changing up at 2700-3000 rpm really helps smooth the change. I also open the clutch quite slowly when cold as it prevents the jerk. The 'box in the 370 seems to need a bit of mollycoddling when it's cold, but when it's warmed up changing gear is very slick.
  2. Evening chaps, just a bit of a late night think. Was wondering what oil our VQ37 engines like to sip. My car's new to me and was serviced by Nissan (it's approved used), but prior to giving the service boys a call tomorrow to find out what they've put in it, I was curious if there was any real-world experience of what oils are best for the 370Z. I have about 4 gallons of Mobil1 0W40 fully synth from my old (oil-aholic) 911, it'd be handy if the 370Z enjoyed that. Circumstances-wise, my Z tends to do mainly motorway miles with the odd bit of town driving, and of course a spirited drive every other weekend or so. I'd like it if the car could handle a track day without cooking its oil as well Did do a search but didn't find anything so feel free to chime in with suggestions for other Z owners for searching sake.
  3. Further thanks! I feel like I have friends. Hooray, car twins! Thanks for the advice chap - will get the car up on stands this arvo and undoubtedly wind up getting my hands trapped in some unimaginable cranny of the car. I can sort of guess where the back is now, after having driven it a bit more. Don't think I'll be needing a camera once I'm fully up to speed with it, seems quite easy to gauge where the back is, even for shortarses like me! My insurance always surprises me, even my 911 was about £600 fully comp. I also have a daily drive, a 1.2 Corsa, and that costs me £800 to insure! Took my car on a bit of a shakedown yesterday and aside from the exhaust volume, I don't think there's another problem with the car. The traction control is a bit nannying but I don't think I'll be turning it off before the winter subsides anyway. The tyres (Kumho Ecstas) aren't brilliant in the wet so once they expire I'll probably be investigating some form of PilotSport instead. Plenty of time to go anyway! A friend of mine picked up a TRD GT-86 and was kind enough to take a few shots of the cars together (they looked really good as a pair!). A few of you have probably heard of him - George Williams (www.gfwilliams.net) took this:
  4. Further thanks for the kind words. Truth be told, I'm not really concerned about the lack of 'nav in my car - I've hated it on all the cars I've owned before and I'd much rather just use my Tomtom. Not bothered about resale either as it's my bloody car and I'm happy If anybody knows how to get to the sidelights (from my research the 350Z has access panels in the wheelarches, does this carry over to the 370Z?) I'd appreciate the input. Otherwise, I'll get back to playing with exhaust clips on YouTube to figure out what I want.
  5. Thanks for the warm welcome I'd be interested in a rear view camera. My 370Z doesn't have the nav screen thing so I could always stick the camera display in that rather depressing pocket.
  6. Evening chaps, just thought register and say hello . I am the proud owner of a white '09 370Z as of this morning. I've come across from a BMW M6 as the fuel costs were ruinous and there's not much of a chance to fully exploit 500+bhp on the road. Initial feelings - well, the power is definitely more accessible than before, and it's lovely sitting low down and feeling closer to the action (the first thing I noticed was the vibration and feeling you get through the gear lever). The ride's fine, everything is easy to use, and it actually seems quite frugal on fuel (well, I suppose being accustomed to ~15mpg, anything would seem frugal afterwards). The only criticism I have is that visibility can be a little poor, the mirrors are quite large when you're trying to see past them and, again, maybe it's just what I'm used to but not being able to see in my rear blind spots is a bit unnatural. I'm sure I'll get used to it though. I'm actually quite surprised as to the engine noise you get in the car, I was expecting it to sound fairly tame - it isn't. My car has standard pipes on it but the sound is a lot more intrusive (in a good way) than the M6. Insurance is also pleasantly cheap, I'm 23 and I seem to be paying just over £500 a year fully comp. With that said, I plan on tweaking a few little things on the car. Prior to purchase I've already had the wheels painted black (think it really suits a white car!) and I'm toying with the idea of black mirror surrounds and a black spoiler. I'll fire up the ol' Photochop at some point to tinker with that. I'm planning on putting some aftermarket pipes on it although i've still got to do a bit more research into what exactly I want before I make a decision (I used to have a 997 C2S with the PSE, I really liked that noise level). Finally I also have a set of pure white sidelights knocking about somewhere, although I'm not quite sure how to attack the sidelights on a 370Z. Anybody got some advice to save me a few minutes tomorrow morning? Also attached a photo for your viewing pleasure. Would put more up but I've hit my size limit, will just add them to subsequent replies. Looking forward to mingling!
  7. Enjoying my new Zed!
