  1. Ok, so the Zed is due it's service next month after 6 months of ownership. It's a 2003 UK GT, currently on 63K and came with full Nissan service history. I was thinking whether to just take it in to the local dealership (Barton Townley - Barrow) for a very expensive P2 stamp, or do the required work (and the rest) myself. Looking at peoples threads in similar circumstances, I've decided to purchase the parts and oils myself and go for it. I know I'm competent enough as I've always done my own work and always take my time working methodically. I paid 6K for the car so doubt it'll affect resale and I'll be keeping all receipts. I'll also know that everything has been done as it should.

Been looking through the history and came up with the following shopping list, just need a few pointers from people:

    • NGK Iridium Spark Plugs - £50 - Last receipt I could find was 2005 for plugs.
    • Clarks Belts - £25 - Looking worn and have cracks, can't find a receipt
    • K&N Oil Filter - £10 - I like the idea of the bolt attached to the top.
    • (K&N Panel Air Filter went in a few months back)
    • 2 x Crush Washers
    • Motul 8100 Eco-nergy 5W30 - 5litre - £25 - Seems to be a popular shout
    • MT-XY 75W85 Gear Oil - 3litre - £40 - For Gearbox
    • Molyslip - £10 - Is there a ratio, do I just need the one bottle?
    • Coolant - Car currently has green stuff in there, I'm guessing it's Nissan's own concentrated. I'm planning on draining the radiator but not the block. Any advice on this? Are there suitable alternatives? Apparently I can mix blue with green?
    • Brake Fluid - Going to get a mech I know to do this as I don't feel comfortable playing with brakes. I don't track the car and never really drive it particularly hard. Just any branded 4DOT?

I think that's a fairly comprehensive service. Anything I may have missed or particular advice? Should keep me busy for an afternoon and away from the nagging missus.

  2. I have my Zed as a daily so just kind of resigned to the fact it will pick up a bit of age related wear. Supermarkets, works car park etc. Bloody annoying when it happens but it's just kind of become a fact of life now.

  3. I'm with Admiral this year, cheapest by a mile, bet they increase the renewal, so then back on

Go Compare, not been with the same insurance company for two years running. When it comes

to renewal they try to rip you off, same with out house insurance.

To be fair to Admiral, I've been with them 3 years now and they continue to be the cheapest with their renewal offers. Always decent customer service too as I change second cars quite a lot.

  4. Nope. The previous owner had put one budget on the back when all the other corners were V12's. Can't really understand the logic myself. Hence why that one is being changed today.

I'm sure Camskill came up on Google shopping and they weren't too far off to be fair. If they trade on here it may be worth asking if they'll match the price.

  5. Can't seem to find anything on the search so excuse me if these guys have been mentioned before.

I was in need of a couple of tyres as I found a budget one on the rear that I hadn't noticed during purchasing the car (oops) and also replaced a wheel after an incident, which left the wall of a front tyre in pretty bad shape.

I went onto Google and looked for the cheapest Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's *cue cracks about choice of tyre* I could find and came across the above site with them priced at £231 inc delivery for the two. My local tyre shops which are usually fairly priced couldn't come close.

I went onto a few review sites and found out they're trading from Germany and also have a few mixed reviews, but mainly positive so I took a punt. I ordered on the 16th at around 9pm and they landed mid day on the 19th, everything in order. Getting them fitted today for £30 so I've saved a few pounds.

Anyway just thought I'd share my good experience of them and wondered if anyone else has used them?

  6. Pretty much what I expected to be honest I'll have a look for some decent wheel cleaning product and get the others cleaned up. Will get the others done after the winter as I'll hopefully have a house bought by then with a driveway & garage. No more street parking for me to kerb them etc! :) Cheers guys.

  7. Ok, so a little bit of background info. I recently bought a second hand Rays alloy as I took a chunk out of mine. It came from the breakers and is in need of a refurb. My other 3 corners look fine in my opinion, no flaking or bubbling, laquer I presume is ok as nothing seems to pit to them, so this side of Christmas I can't justify getting the lot done. The only thing is now, I know that my new acid dipped and resprayed wheel is going to show up my other 3, regardless of how good I think they are at the moment.

I've never used any kind of wheel cleaning products before, I just shampoo my alloys at the end of every wash. I've used the search button and read tips on cleaning wheels. Is my best bet just to use a good ph neutral wheel cleaner to get the other 3 to shine as best possible or is there anything else I can do bar a refurb?

    Thanks in advance, Chris.

  8. When I bought mine it was off a guy locally but I'd luckily found it through Pistonheads. He took me out in it, I had a look round, was in decent condition bar a crack in the front lip and a small groove in one of the front discs. Conversation pretty much went "Yeah looks really nice. Can't fault much of it really. How much were you wanting for it?" He then knocked £400 off the price he had it listed for which resulted in a fair price that I had in mind anyway and I shook his hand. Guess every Zed purchaser isn't an absolute gentleman like myself. :D

  9. Yup, it's a minefield. I had a 1.4 Civic, non V-tec. The thing was absolutely gutless, probably about 65bhp. Changed a few cars since then and hit 25 years old, but I think my premium is up about £7 for the year when I bought the Zed.

Guess it's just the Tesco car park crews putting their Hondas into hedges that are ruining it for others. God knows.

  10. Wow, I've had the usual numptys offering me insulting amounts when I sell cars, but still I'm always pleasant in my responses and never had abuse back. How long have you had them on the classifieds for before you sell? Do you pay the asking price yourself?

I know it's stupid how the second hand car game works, list it for more than you want because everyone goes in lower, but I often find holding out for what you want generally works. Just something along then lines of "Nah sorry, I know what I want for it and to be honest I'm not desperate for the cash so I'd rather keep it than let it go for that". Maybe people just sense that you need a sale if you're off for 6 months and they can afford to play hard ball too.

  11. I know the comparison sites always do add a little bit extra on so it's always best to ring the top 3 and ask for their very best deals and try to put them against each other. No idea why going straight through Admirals online quote system added £9 on though!

I just hate how insurance companies work, trying to charge you a price they think you'll pay rather then their "best" deal.

  12. What other people pay will not help you, the price they pay is based on the risk they present.

    Ollie

    Sky Insurance

To be honest I think this is rubbish. I'm positive insurance companies pull random figures out of the air. Never found much logic in any quotes when I've played around a bit with the meerkats
