  1. It's true

    Audi are the new Volvo!

I've got an Audi, does that mean I'm officially an old man?

Not old, but to be avoided! -only joking!

gave up bikes last year after nearly 30 years, even sold my hybrid RD350LC that i built 10 years ago!

Too much traffic, lower speed limits and the road surfaces are terrible, loads of potholes or a resurfaced road covered in loose chippings.

Will get a cheap VTR or similar before my ncb runs out.

  2. Use mine daily for the 10 mile round trip to work, wouldn't get to drive it much otherwise as busy doing family things!

Wife's Clio 197 is the family car!

I work for Tesco as a maintenance engineer. Think it annoys the managers that I drive a better car than them!

  3. Around town you have to nurse 1st to 2nd as it doesnt like it that much at low rpm's. If its doing it at all rpms then get some molyslip its really good stuff. Think its just one of those things as my old Integra was exactly the same around town.

I changed my oil and it didn't make much difference. As above, i reckon mine's better 1st to 2nd when you rev it, only really noticed today, so will have a play tomorrow.

Went out for a beer last week with a mate who's a transmission engineer for land rover. I explained to him about the zed box, and he said oh yeah, we had a similar problem with a box we were developing, no matter what oil they used it was the same, crunch first to second. he reckoned the synchro rings were the wrong material and they slipped too much so the gears didn't match speeds correctly. Wish i'd left the molyslip out of mine and driven it for a few days.

  4. I have a non bose standard audio system in my '54 zed.

I never noticed until i played around with the settings on the single din head unit i have just fitted, but the right hand rear speaker doesn't work and the left hand rear is cxxp. I was quite impressed with the front speakers for a standard car, but are the rears really that bad or are mine knackered?

  5. How dirty is the filter? Can't they just be cleaned?

The inside of the filter is clean so it is still filtering ok, but the outside is quite dirty, if i kept it i'd change it for the sake of £15.

I read up on them and most people say not to clean them.

The photo of the filter makes it look loads worse, the pick in the engine bay is better!

  6. Did that air filter make any difference in performance? Sound nice?

Performance feels the same, but i've only had the standard airbox on for a day. To be honest, if there was +/- 3 bhp i wouldn't be able to tell!

Think the hks was a little noisier when you revved the car, but again it's only been off a day and i don't rev the car that high very often to tell, also have the stereo turned up loud most of the time!v

Sorry that's not much help, may be wortj asking somebody who has driven with and without a hks system longer than i have?

  7. Hi, for sale is a HKS induction system removed from my '54 plate UK 350Z. It has been replaced with a standard air filter box to keep my insurance company happy!!

It's obviously used, but I don't know how old it is.

Being 100% honest, the intake pipe has been rubbing somewhere as shown in the second photo. Not sure whereit was rubbing as there is nothing above it that can rub??

The aluminium heat shield has a slight crease in it near the top right hand allen screw in the third photo.

The brackets and the bottom of the filter gauze have some slight surface rust and the filter could do with replacing (apparently £15-£20 from ebay)

As stated the intake is used as sold as seen. Any more info, please contact me. Can be collected from Solihull area.

    £120 including post.

    Thanks, Ian.

Mod Edit: Moved to 350 Parts for sale

  8. The idea was to show how cheaply they can be maintained!

Ostego, you not got any mechanically minded friends? I don't want to upset any zed indies, but servicing the zed is easier than my wife's Clio 197!

My insurance is due in two weeks, £255, my old Clio 200 was £80 more.

  9. Washed the car once since i bought it, polished half of it with a bit of auto glym and then had a beer. I'm not much of a detailer!

I work for Tesco as a maintenance engineer and have to park on the customer car park (which is why i didn't buy a mint car) and found if my car's dirty, nobody parks near it lol!

In comparison, my wife's Clio 197 does 29mpg on super compared to the zed's 21mpg (both around town). Servicing parts are very similar, tax is £260, conti 5 tyres £126 a corner fitted.

  10. Thought I'd add this so somebody else thinking of buying a Zed can see how much it can potentially cost. I'm really fussy and generally use genuine parts, so some jobs were a bit OTT!

All work was carried out by myself (except the wife helped me bleed the clutch/brakes) on my drive with normal tools, a pair of low ramps and some axle stands.

Bought car '54 plate in blade silver £5400

Took it for an MOT on the way home £42

Repaired the clicking rear axle ebay £6.70 for grease

Trim clips for battery cover and undertray ebay £2.79

Genuine oil filter, sump plug washer, brake fluid 1 litre from a contact at a Renault dealer which now deals with Nissan too! £13.72 delivered

Motul eco-energy oil 5 litres from Opie £25.15 delivered

Genuine gearbox oil and drain plug washer £35.07 delivered

Brembo front pads ebay £30 delivered

Aux and a/c belt ebay £23.98 delivered

Stanless M6 screws and washers for undertray fixings ebay £5.59

Rivnuts to repair undertray fixing ebay £1.99

Tyres front ZE914 2off from tyreleader £198.18 delivered

    Tyre fitting etc £35.00

    Front wheel tracking £22.50

Total, approx £450 plus I've just taxed it for £280 so £730!!

Take the MOT, tax and tyres off (inc fitting) and that's £150, I haven't fitted the pads yet so £120 to give the car a major service-not bad. The plugs need doing in 8 months and I may replace the diff oil and coolant.
