  1. For winter, personally, I prefer to use a sealant rather than a wax (which I use over the summer months) purely due to the durability. Jeffs Werkstat Acrylic works very well and will easily last a couple of months if applied correctly, but this time I've opted for Poorboys EX-P to see how that lasts. With the latter particularly, you can top up with wax too if you like.

Any tips you have for 'proper' application? So to be clear you could apply a Wax over the sealant?

  2. Thanks for the advice. Good to hear others experience. Will look into AutoGlyms polish. Would prefer to do by hand.

I live in a farm so track in isn't great wonder wheels appear to eat the gunk off well. Will certainly invest in some tyre dressing though.

    Thanks

  3. Hey peeps,

Looking to get my car looking spanking for winter, Been doing the normal wash routine lately then finishing off simply using Greased Monkeys' Showroom Shine, but now think its time to tuck into a bit of detailing as the car has a bit of road rash and want to ensure its nicely protected for winter. This is what I have planned so far..... please make any suggestions

Wash - Soak with open hose, and pressure wash any stubbon skank off, then (Halfords) pressure washer bottle the car (already in the cupboard so may as well use). Lambswool mitt the car with 2 buckets. CarPlans' Wonder wheels (in cupboard) the [stock] alloys with a brush. Rinse the car with an open hose. Drip then dry with a microfibre or a shammy - yet to be decided.

ClayBar - Dodo Juices' Born Slippy (Ordered) and 2x55g claybar (ordered) split into 4 bits soaking in hot water, spray BS onto 2x3ft area and claybar area lightly. Fold repeatedly and repeat on next area. Do I need to rinse car or towel down??

Polish - Completely undecided on what product to use and how to apply effectively

Wax - Nothing bought yet, however have heard great thinks about Finish Kares' FK100P - Although not sure on application...

Wheel dressing - Is it worth it? If so, what products?

Note: All this work will be carried out on a gravel driveway so hardly ideal conditions, but the best I have. Picture below of todays 'basic' clean, you can see the surface I'm on.

Any advice is extremely welcome. Thank in advance!

  4. Just make sure when you change direction with the can your not still spraying, make sure your overspray - yes its obvious but you would be amazed!

One try we use for american football helmets is to hang on piece of string (then a piece of cotton in this case) twist the string up, so it spins when you release then start spraying up and down - just a nice tip, not sure if relevant on this one.....

Also any actual tips on detagging the car to install these? Mine are in terrible condition and would love to replace!

  5. That's very reassuring to see. Mine would be a little more exposed but think i have some solutions to weigh it down. Please can you send me some pics of your additional struts as hadn't thought about snow weight. Thanks

  6. Yes, make sure you don't leave it to cure as it's a bloody nightmare to remove! VOE on that one, sadly.

yes I had heard this, also making sure the sponge is damp and warm was anoth tip i picked up on my internet trawls

  7. Its a fair point you make for the fitted cover, just really worried about a stone getting caught in it, as it will be put on and off daily. Any precautions I can take?

Make sure car is clean before use or it can cause swells in the paint

See thats what I mean - The cover will be just chucked over each day when I get back from the office, and I really cant see me titting about with it in a suit on a freezing winters night...... hmm think I just answered my question there!

  8. 3rd topic this morning! I have no garage (yet) and live on a farm so pretty exposed to weather and plenty of dust and crap, I wanted to park the Zed. I was looking at a cheap solution to protect the car until my landlord finishes the garage.

I thought about using a large gazebo - something like 3m x 6m, I can secure one side to my house and the rest weighted down, all this for about £55. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120967919958?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Before I bought it wanted to ask, has anyone else done this, so could pass on some wisdom, or anyone got a temporary/pop-up garage for sale?

  9. No its not what you thought, no skantly dressed skank draped over the front of the car - I have a bit of skank that seems to not want to come off on the front bumper, when running hand over it you can feel it, I think its just flick up from the road - but has anyone got any recommendation to give this a good clean and get this grime off?

  10. Just wanted to share an experience of a product which I think is the nuts. After a normal wash down of the car, I let it air dry then used a product called "Showroom Shine" by Greased Lightening.

The product comes in a large spray bottle and 2 microfibre cloths, you spray the product sparingly all over the car, glass and all, then rub all over with one cloth, then follow yourself around the car with the second cloth and buff it off. I'm sure there are a tonne of these sprays out there, but seriously impressed with this.

Also they give you the sell that it leaves a protective barrier and all that junk, well, its no bull, a 130mile round motorway trip, followed by a nightfall of rain, car still gleaming! Used 4 times now (1litre supposed to do 10 'washes') and easy, quick and great to use.

At about 15 squids, I think its a pretty good product - just wanted to share

(Before the "This Post is worthless without pics" gif appears, I will post once I do my next wash - next weekend :D )

  11. In winter I used silica gel packets that came with my sofa. I'd put them on the radiator ever few days. Did the trick.

I actually purchased a rechargeable silicone cushion thing. Really works well and once it becomes saturated you just put it in the microwave and steam the moisture out of it.

I would definitely recommend this over anything else!!

    Like this?

I have this problem with my Zed, and need to find a fix, as its driving me nuts, and my boss nuts, as I'm always late :) Havent told him I always take the scenic route, because its more fun though :)
