  1. From here: http://www.350z-uk.c...you-uprated-to/

The front sidelights x2, rear Numberplate x2 and boot light x 1 are all the same type - w5w 501.

The interior light requires 2 x 30mm festoon type bulbs.

White LED is the way to go for the modern look, they are white with a tiny hint of blue. You can get them all cheap on ebay but they may not last too long. Not so bad with the easy to change bulbs but a pain with the sidelight bulbs.

I would recommend Autobulbs direct for good quality items and if you PM a mod they will give you a discount code.

OK I must be losing the plot...!

A while ago I bought silvered indicator bulbs for the front of my '06 facelift and last night taking advantage of getting home early decided to "pop them in".

Fail #1: I didn't realise each front lamp assembly needed TWO bulbs!

Fail #2: Linked to fail#1 I managed (just!) to ease the lamp assembly forward a gnat's whisker and unfasten the bulb holder but I couldn't manouver the bulb holder out although I did manage to pull the topmost bulb out.

Fail #3: My indicator bulb appears to have a flatened end and not what I was expecting/bought ie a bayonet fitting.

Having read threads here on bulbs I am totally confused as to what I need to replace my orange bulbs with silvered ones.

I've checked the Autobulbs website but they only show bayonet fitting indicator bulbs. Am I going mad? Did I imagine that mine are flattened?

Anyways I managed to get the pesk holder refitted and all lights are working OK but am stumped about replacements!

  2. Insurance doesn't cover damage to the armco at the Ring, nor does it cover damage to other cars. You would have to pay for the armco damage yourself, plus any track stoppage time. As long as your weren't negligent with your driving, then you wouldn't have to pay the costs of damage to other cars.

Insurance can cover whatever you want it to cover if you are prepared to pay the premium. You can have cover for damages caused to 3rd party property and personal injury.

As for not being liable if not negligent - good luck in taking that approach and trying to defend any action taken against you should you eg drop oil or water and cause a following biker to crash on the fluid. Is that negligence? Doubt it - could just be a mechanical failure - but you would still be liable and into a wordl of financial pain.

Of course insurance is not obligatory all I was giving was my opinion and I defend to the death the right of others to give theirs too!

  3. Ah I see.

I do, yes, based on the principle that I cannot afford to replace the car if I write it off. Well, I did on the Zed and the 911, but I don't with the MX5 'cos it's not worth a whole lot!

It's risk-based: If you're happy with your own driving AND feel lucky that no-one else will drive into you, or can afford to replace the car if you bin it, then don't bother. If you feel nervous about any of that, then get some insurance. You'll be better off getting a road policy that includes trackday coverage, but for the odd day here or there then just get single day cover.

Moris will quote you for the Ring, and they're quite reasonable too.

Strongly recommend that you DO take out insurance cover.

You need to factor in not only repair or write off costs to your car BUT if you have an accident and are held to blame you could be liable for circuit repair costs (ARMCO barrier replacement) PLUS if someone has an accident as a result of any indiscretion on your part you could be liable for their repair costs PLUS any personal injury caused!

I've driven and raced at the 'Ring for many years and for a newcomer it can be intimidatingly daunting. more of a worry is it can be beguilingly seductive to think you know the place after a few laps. There are many MANY parts of the circuit that at first sight are easily mistaken for others. I had a mahoosive accident at Wehrseifen one year through a moment's inattention as it looks so much like the entry point to Breidscheid - well trust me it ISNT! The entry speed and apex speed are very different!

Luckily I only damaged my car, and my pride, but had I taken someone else out then my wallet would have been much lighter!

I wouldn't dream of taking part in an open day there without insurance - thos accidents you see on YouTube are salutroy lessons for us all.

Having said that the adrenalin rush and fun factor are enormous and addictive!

  4. After looking a bit closer - there are 3 bars across the pre 06 grill too, only 2 bars on the post 06. I hadn't even noticed they were different apart from the reflectors!

These "bars" on the facelift are actually screw on body coloured caps.

You can get to the fixing screws from behind either by removing the bumper or you can get your hand down from the top through the big gap where the bonnet catch is.

Once you remove those caps you will be left with some pretty ugly slats but if you are covering with black mesh you won't see them (or you can dremel them off I guess).

There are some pics on my build thread that show before, during and after (although I mounted a Zunsport grille - which I realsie you don't like - but the principle is similar).

  5. Anyone have any experience of these? http://www.fittedparkingsensors.co.uk/ I was thinking of Kit #2. I recently backed into an 18" post that I simply couldn't see, cracked my carbon fibre diffuser and also backed Caroline's Zed into a low wall, just touched it so luckily no damage.

    Pete

As a reference point the supplied, colour coded and fitted price for mine was £165.

Sensors were from Steelmate (this is the second car I've used Steelmate on without any issues) and fitting took around an hour by my local stereo installer. No visual monitor - audible beeper only mounted in the inner face of the rear of the boot.

  6. I had some aftermarket rear parking sensors installed when I bought the car, but they do not match the paint work. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but can you simply spray over them with the correct paint code to match them?

Yes you can, my local car stereo retailer supplied, sprayed and fitted the sensors to match my gun metal Zed (and have done same on some of my previous cars too).

As standard parking sensors are generally black plastic and they are then painted to body colour. BUT, and I am wandering now into pure speculation, it MAY be that you have to take them apart to paint. Reason I said that is most (possibly all) parking sensors I've seen look to be made up of an inner cylinder and an outer shell and I don't know if they are/can be sprayed as a single item.

Am sure your parking aid/sensor retailer will advise you on the procedure.

  8. Thanks guys - will check these all out. KnightRacer have a very good reputation on the GTR owners club site - so I have a leaning towards their product.

  9. I just fitted a set during the week. When I received them I had to paint them as there were scratches in the gel coating. Can get a pic up later if you need. Buster has them and someone else here with a black 350z also pete87 I think.

    Who was your supplier?

Appreciate a pic - thank you.

  10. Hey David, I plan on fitting similar stainless items - where did you get yours from? :)

I was down the Zed Shed yesterday and saw that Octet has a nice set of red anodised ones fitted to the engine.

    Decisions! :)

I had some left over from a previous other car project where I did the same and then simply sourced a few from my local hardware store. Mine are just simple stainless bolts and washers not the fancy anodised ones - although if I was able to get a set of those I'd probably go for them.

  11. Be interested to hear from anyone who has fitted sidesteps and if possible see some pics.

So far have found some from Aerokit and KnightRacer but their images aren't overly sharp.

Am thinking of plain black (either "natural gel coat finish or CF) - not sure I want them body coloured.

  12. I use a micro fibre mit and find I can get enough of my hand and arm in between the spokes to clean the inside of the rim right to the edge. Also means I can clean the inner face of the spokes!

  13. Despite my injuries I have managed to fit my cargo net into the boot - it's not as big as I was expecting (she said...hah)....but it will do for now.

    IMG_0211.jpg

Hmm - I see what you mean - that looks nothing like my cargo net.

Mine runs virtually in a straight line between the mounting points and is actually "double skinned" so you get a kind of pocket effect.

  15. Thanks Paddy. Is the grille easy enough to fit without having to remove the bumper do you know?

I would have thought so? I can't confirm though obviously! ;)

On the facelift you have to remove the body coloured slats that are in the grille aperture before you can fit the Zunnsport grille.

These slats are screwed on from behind. You can get to them by putting you arm (equipped withn a screwdriver!) down from the top through the gap in front of the radiator.

Fitting the grille after is a piece of cake.

  16. Great morning out - saw quite a few Zeds and no doubt some of them were from here - but didn't see anyone lurking near them to go and say hello.

Pic of mine on grid -taken from top of pits.

Saw this car today and it looked great, and very clean! I'm considering a 350Z as next car, although recently been swaying towards a 3.0 Z4, but seeing your car has given me second thoughts and I'm looking at zeds again.

Looked like it had spacers, whats the setup you have and also is it lowered?

Is running spacers at 20mm fromt and 25mm rear. Apart from that suspension is standard. Thanks for your kind comments!

Was a lovely motor..... Hubcentric I assume?

    Yes - Eibachs.
