  1. I think your understanding of satnavs is rather muddled. Basically if your phone/tablet etc has gps built in and has an app which has the maps for the region your in all installed on your device then you will use NO mobile network connection and therefore will not be charged. This is how standalone GPS units also work. Some sat nav apps however dont have offline maps installed (to save space etc) but then they use 3g/internet connection to download the maps on the fly for the particular region you are in. Example: on my iphone 4 I have tomtom uk installed - it has offline maps installed (around 1.3gb i think) when it runs, nothing on the phone network side is used. When I was in the states I also got tomtom USA (alot bigger around 3/4gb from memory), again data roaming etc was all turned off and I used it no problem.
  2. Nice work! I am still waiting on the nexus 7 to arrive, HMW keep pushing back the delivery date which is rather annoying, should have it by the weekend hopefully. @ashyk36 - For your build I am assuming you bought a sat nav cubby? - Where did you get it from?
  3. could do but would like to have the usb plug handy to transfer anything to the tablet as the power and usb data are both on the same socket on the nexus 7 also as the 3.5mm plug will be in the centre cubby with a 3.5mm coupler just incase I want to plug some other mp3 device etc the centre cubby may turn out to be a bit messy inside but allows for the usage options therefore sticking with it
  4. I have a pretty decent idea, BUT it will be installed in a sat nav cubby which I have not currently got hold of, WLMG Nissan have quoted me 150quid, if I don't find another option within about 2 weeks I will order from there. I am waiting 2 weeks to get used to the tablet and hopefully some decent custom roms for it e.g touch wake and power on when plugged in (will explain further down) I am hoping to fit the tablet flush against the cubby - the back may be removed if the power + 3.5mm cable protrude on one end and I will just relocate the connectors the USB power will be run along centre console where I will rewire the rear cigarette lighter using this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-AUTO-3-SO ... 4344wt_971 the box will be located and secured in the centre cubby, this way i can also connect the tablet via usb to a laptop etc to upload things. The power issue - If a custom rom with touch wake and power on plugin feature is released then theres no need to route the power switch and would make everything a lot easier, - if not I will look to rewire the power switch.
  5. Unfortunatley HMV have pushed back shipping till the 23rd of July so will be receiving the tablet next week! once it arrives I will get some pics up.

    Satnav Cubby unit

still on the hunt for one of these...
  7. your in luck: http://liliputing.com/2012/01/dell-stre ... nload.html I think I am going ahead with the Nexus 7 tablet - once it arrives will take it apart and get some close ups of the power switch to get ideas on possible rewiring. Have you preordered the nexus 7? If you have you may get it this week so i may hold off taking this apart as you will find out more then. Are you fitting yours in a sat nav cubby? Have pre ordered it with HMV as I just remembered I had a £100 evoucher laying about, comes to £99 in total for the 16gb model, should be getting it towards the end of this week. I am planning to install it in a sat nav cubby (which I dont have yet) - but I was in the market for a tablet anyway so will be using it day to day once it arrives to get familiar with it and will also take it apart to get a better understanding of rewiring options
  8. your in luck: http://liliputing.com/2012/01/dell-stre ... nload.html I think I am going ahead with the Nexus 7 tablet - once it arrives will take it apart and get some close ups of the power switch to get ideas on possible rewiring.
  9. if the Nexus 7 could fit in the sat nav cubby without having to remove the front glass then I would be very tempted! - it will no doubt have huge support for custom roms and hacks etc due to how cheap it is the other 7" tablet is the 'samsung galaxy tab 7 plus' - its a revamp of the original galaxy tab 7 and ticks all the boxes - BT/GPS/SD slot etc and its getting ICS update in a few days. now its just a matter of finding a 350z sat nav cubby which is proving to be a pain! - anyone who could help pls let me know
  10. well from previous threads a price of £100 is thrown about, havent seen many places where you can buy the sat nav cubby though. Also what tablet is everyone using? bit of a pain finding a tablet which supports GPS/Bluetooth etc 1 Nexus 7 - Not an option as mentioned before the LCD is fused to the front bezel glass so there is no way to separate them 2. Samsung galaxy tab 7 plus - Seems like a good option but pricey any cheaper chinese tabs people are using?
  11. from the research I've done it seems to be in the region of 90-100 apparently
  12. I have a couple of cubbys in my garage I can have a look if you like If you could mate I would massively appreciate it. Struggling to find a sat nav cubby
  13. With the normal cubby im mostly concerned about having a correct "beze/casing" around the lcd screen like the sat nav cubby has. Without the correct covering around the lcd it could look very messy I guess I need to do some measurements with the empy cubby to see if the opening exactly fits a 7" lcd
  14. Currently have an 06 350z with an empty middle cubby, im looking for either: 1. Cookbot 350z satnav unit 2. Empty satnav cubby unit
  15. Had a play around with the galaxy note and how it would work in the normal cubby, also had a look at a teardown of the phone, would be extremely time consuming and not sure if it would even give a decent oem look. Decided to get myself a sat nav cubby instead and use a cheaper 7" tablet which are far simpler to manipulate in terms of components.
  16. I am based in Slough. I was considering changing brake fluids however its part of a P3 service so thought would make sense to leave it until next years P3 service. The coolant is a good shout totally forgot to check that.
  17. Hi guys I am contemplating installing an android tablet into my 06 350z, it doesnt have a birdview system installed and looks like a 7" screen would be a pretty tight fit but something like a 5.4" screen on a samsung galaxy note or something would be perfect. I know members on here have created custom units using sat nav cubby but thought the normal cubby may also work? and finally out of interest how much is the satnav cubby and where can they be purchased from?
  18. ok thanks for the advice guys looks like i will: 1. Change spark plugs 2. Change Transmission oil 3. Change diff oil Anyone know how much labour should cost roughly to get it done? (will get the consumables from Zmanalex) Havent got axel stands etc to change the oils. Could probably do the spark plugs myself - but if i get a decent deal to do them will probably take it.
  19. not even 6 months, K&N induction kit was put in on Sunday thanks to Crustycrab on here! The dealer already did P1/L1 so I dont need to do it. I guess its just the extra additional items. The gear change is slightly clunky - theres no odd noises but 1st to 2nd is a bit stiff at times.
  20. I have recently purchased a 2006 350z and I am debating whether to get a P3 service done or just additional items. Maybe some of the experienced members can advise. Background: 1. Recently Purchased the 2006 350z - it has roughly 102k on the clock. 2. Servicing has been done by Nissain Main dealer pretty much every 10k: P1 - 20/06/06 - 9624 P2 - 27/10/06 - 18417 P1 - 16/04/07 - 27084 P3 - 11/09/07 - 36801 P1 - 08/01/08 - 44489 P2 - 09/06/08 - 54556 (Spark Plugs changed here too) P1 - 27/10/08 - 62812 P3 - 20/04/09 - 72182 P1 - 21/07/10 - 85760 L2 - 25/07/11 - 96536 I purchased it last week and a L1 service was done by the dealers local garage after I had put down a deposit: L1 at 102281 miles - Air and oil filters were changed - Synthetic engine oil was used - 2 front belts were changed. Current Situation I was intially considering doing a P3 however looking at the service schedule the 350z is due a L3/P3 next year. So I thought it would be wise to do the following: 1. Spark plug change (not quite at next 52k however if im doing P3 next year, it will soften the blow on the wallet if I do it now lol) 2. Transmission fluid change - No documentation of it being done before. Is there anything else that would be recommended to do considering the mileage etc? Or would you just do a full P3 now? (WLMG Slough have quoted £295 or £170 i think if I provide all the consumables to use)
  21. cheers, the smell only comes from the fans when ac if off, never tested how long the smell lasted as i couldnt bear it and put a/c on immediatley lol. Will try putting heat on max to see if it gets rid of the smell, if not will get the comma stuff thanks for the advice guys
  22. I get a damp/mouldy smell from the fans in my 350z, the smell only occurs if Air con if off, as soon as it is switched on the smell goes. Either way I would like to get rid of the smell, ive read around that a simple air con cleaner (spray will do the trick) Any brands that are recommended? - also where do you used the spray?
  23. and what is the going rate for jwt pop chargers? also seen a member selling a K&N induction kit - views on its sound anyone? viewtopic.php?f=32&t=63158
  24. bit of a newbie q but how does it compare to the jwt pop charger?
  25. I know this topic comes up a hell of a lot but bear with me, I am very new to all of this. I would like to fit an induction kit to my 350z to give it a deeper growl. Am I right in assuming JWT pop charger is an induction kit and the most popular one at that? also what is the rough price range and is it easy to fit yourself or is it something a garage does?
