1. Sounds good to me, hope your mileage goes up as i wouldnt want it to spoil your enjoyment of your new car.

Let me know how you get on once you've filled up a few times. :drive1

Oh im not sure anything could spoil it mate, its costing me, but i still pinch myself every time o start it up. When the summer comes, and those tyres start stickin a little more, i'll be n heaven.

    I'll you posted mate

  2. Sorry mate, i think i may have explained that wrong. When i went through the steps, i got the engine management light flashing etc, in terms of codes, i counted 10 slow, 3 x 10 fast, then 10 x slow = no fault code. When i said "i had no engine management light on" earlier, i meant i had no warning light or anything before i started the process, so i cant be sure i completed the full process correctly as i have no way of knowing really, do i? Its the first time ive heard of it, or actually done it, so its fair to say im not 100% on it just yet.

In terms of my actual fuel consumption, i have come to the conclusion that this may well be a temporary thing.... Before, when using .95, £50 got me about just over half a tank, and around 140miles (around town). Ive switched to momentum, £50 got me just under half a tank, and only 100 around town. I think its fair to assume, and i hope some on here can confirm this, that until i fill the tank a few times and flush the engine completely with .99, the car wont feel the benefits of the premium fuel. My mate has a skyline  , he says the cars basically runnin like it has .95 in it, and because im gettin less fuel per £, my mileage is being hit hard. Once its had a few tanks of .99, it should run better, MPG should go up, engine seem quieter etc

    Sound reasonable??? :bangin::drive1:bangin:

You didn't do it right then. You can read codes by found it but one extra step resets it.

Its not reflashing but resetting bug yeah your pretty much there.

Is this the same as "the pedal dance", which im still not sure actually worked as i had no engine management lights on, so im not sure it reset. I basically disconnect and the reconnect my battery?

  3. If its any help mate, i always run my car on 99 ron momentum. All my driving was short journeys ( less than 2 miles) my car was in tip top condition with full up to date service history.

If i put £40 worth of petrol in i would get around 132 miles. I only put up with it as i only done 3000 miles a year in the zed! :)

I also stay near glasgow so due to bad weather i also was driving carefully.

So my mpg seems reasonable to u mate? as i said, im strugglin to get 100 miles out of £50/8gallons. I'll fill up with momentum a few times, see if that helps iron things out.

No mate i think your fuel economy is really bad. I would expect around 165 miles for £50. All cars are different mate!

Im not the most technical person but as you've went from 95 ron to 99 ron, it might help if you reflash your ecu. I think you can do this by disconnecting the battery???

I think this gives you the benefits of the 99 ron sooner rather than having to go through a few tanks of fuel before your engine adjusts for the higher octane.

I might be wrong about this probably better asking someone who knows a bit more about it. ;)

Thats what i thought, im using far too much fuel. Its worrying me a bit to be honest :(

  6. Maybe it is just the short journey killing it? try and take it on a little run on the dual carrigeway when fully warm and see what sort of mpg you get at 70mph. I average about 25-29mpg. My journey is close to 20miles though and not much stop start. You using 99ron fuel?

I was thinkin that might be the case. I'll try gettin on a dual carrigeway tonight, or.maybe tomorrow.

I had filled up with .95 a couple of times, ive just got the car and never even thought tbh.

Im onto momentum now, so ita maybe jstt a case of fillin it with the wrong stuff, hopefully it'll be fine once its flushed

  7. The unrhythmical noise that you are hearing may be the OEM dual mass flywheel.

    Alex. :)

Im no mechanic , mate, but could that explain, or have anything to do with, the cars slight reluctance to go into 2nd gear?

Btw if any of these things turn out to be serious, im gonna be extremely pi**ed at the AA, who check the car "from top to bottom" 3 weeks ago

No, difficult 2nd gear selection from cold is a characteristic of the early transmissions I am afraid.

A fluid change with some DC Moly should help

    Alex. :)

Early transmissions? Does that include 06-56 models?

This fuel is killin me, thats the petrol light on, 84 miles out of 8 gallons :scare:

yep mate, i have 06 and mines is a pig when cold.

Thats the joys of a 3.5l

My MPG seem ok to you then mate? i noticed tonight when i finished training, i started the car up and there was a great wifd of fuel

I'll be honest, i dont care if thats the cost, if i did i wouldnt have bought one, i just want to make sure theres nothing wrong with the car. The way it drives, the noise, the attention it gets, everything about it makes up for the cos.

  8. That petrol seems abit excessive unless your ripping it everywhere?

Im really not! I fail to see how anyone can, the roads are a joke just now, especially in glasgow around the new motorway, foot down = slide skid slide!!!!

Maybe my problem is more about my comute? Im 2 1/2 miles max to work, same apback obviously. I always start the car a few mins before driving to warm her up, so maybe thats using more petrol than i realise?

  11. Hi mate, i always used momentum and i found it to be really good.

I would recommend mark at the garage in motherwell, he is really good, really knows his stuff and will spend all day answering all you questions! He is also very reasonable.

By the way, his garage is actually called " the garage" :)

Cheers mate, i'll stick with momentum, and i'll look into the garage.

    Thanks for the help

  12. My last tank before she went away for the winter averaged 9mpg

This is something people should investigate before buying a car like this.

Remember when you buy super the fuel is about 8p a litre more expensive so younger less for your money.

Try doing an ecu reset with "the pedal dance" found of you search top right. May help iron out a few problems.

Did the "pedal dance" mate, took me about 10 attempts right enough :)

I did investigate the fuel costs, its just seems that im going through alot more than i should. 97 miles for £50 worth of momentum @ £136.9 per litre, whats that, around 12 mpg, and im not driving it hard at all, the roads are too greasy so the wheels jus spin. I have noticed a very slight knockin noise comin from the engine bay, i thought i could "feel" it at the accelerator on idle, or low revs. Stuck my head under the bonnet, and you can hear a very slight knock now and again, but there doesnt seem to be any rythm to it if you know what i mean, so i dont think its chain rubbing or anything. I thought about taking it over to infiniti to get there tech guys to have a look. It might well be nothing, dont think im losing power or anything. Maybe im just lookin into it too much, theres no warning lights or anything on. Just worried my new pride and joy is ill

As i said, the knocking sound is likely to be because of the 95 fuel you have been using.Should stop when you flush it with a couple of tanks of 99 from tesco.

Thanks again for the help. Need to hit tesco soon, ****in things drinkin fuel, but god do i love it :D

I have a feelin the previous owner was also using 95 fuel, but i'll stick to momentum from now on, give it a few full tanks, and see how i get on.

  14. Sounds to me like you've just answered your own question then afraid - nowt wrong with the car - its just that fuel is expensive and its not really practical as a town car :)

But like the guys said - stick to super do not use 95 - and as Mr T said do a wee fuel consumption test over three half tanks and see what happens - Tesco momentum is pretty reasonable at the moment

Hi again mate, its probably is a case of just being the runnin costs of the car, it just seems so expensive. Ive switched to momentum, thats whats in it just now.

  15. As long as you don't have a heavy foot - if most of your driving is round town you'll be averaging max 20mpg - most folks only get around 18mpg around town - your combined town and country should be around 25mpg.

£50 at the moment will give you about half a tank yeah?

If you were mainly motorway driving you'd expect approx 200 miles out of a half tank - but you say its all round town...You'll find that you can't expect to get much more out of it than 150 miles.

Its just not a town car

Diagnostics will be approx £50 per hour at Nissan - unless you can find a local with Consult

When was your last service? I'm not saying an oil change and new air filter will improve your mpg but can't hurt

    hi mate,

The car was serviced in december, just before i bought it, and i had an AA check done o. The car aswell, as i was buyin in london but i live in glasgow. Everything seemed fine. I drove london>glasgow for £100, seems reasonable, and my mpg is averagin 15.8 on the readout. £50 gets me just under half a tabk, and ive checked tyre pressure etc. Maybe its nothin, it just seems so so thirsty, even compared to the 300ZX.

  16. Hi all. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area, admin please move if this the case.

Basically, i got my 56 350Z three weeks ago, and as much as i knew id be goin through fuel at quite a rate, its absolutley hammerin it! First few trips i was using standard unleaded, usually puttin in £50 and gettin around 140miles before the petrol light comes on. Ive moved to premium, and i reckon for £50 im gettin around 100 miles, does that seem normal? Surely not? I dont drive the car hard, i cant in this weather, but most of my traveling is around town. Would a diagnostics check be worthwhile? If so, does anyone recomend anywhere in glasgow?

    Thanks for your time everyone

  17. Here's the rear washer tube layout including valve location :)

All done!!! Cars magic, i'll post pics when i get a chance. Took 7 hours, coulda done it quicker if a bit of the motorway wasnt closed! £100 in fuel for those interested!

Couple of things with the car:

the rear and passenger side window washers arent workin. The wipers work, but theres no fluid except from the drivers side wipe. Tried the old pin trick, but nothing? Any ideas?

The stereo... It might just be me but it seems quiet. Its not the left speaker problem, i mean it just seems quiet. Ive only used it for the radio, but i had it up full blast and it was still crystal clear, im so use to distortion!!!

There are one way valves in the system i think, check the tubing and trace after the split to the individual wipers on the front.

Don't know where the tubing is routed for the rear one tho, sorry

One thing...before i go huntin for it, how the hell will i get to that valve in the rear washer? Hows the wee nozzle on the window attached

Thanks very much for that mate, really appreciate it, im gonna have a look later today, or maybe tomorrow in work.

I must say, im still get familiar with drivin this thing, it drives soooo....eh.....hard? Ive narely out my foot down, theres no need! Im actually finding that im drivin like an old granny so i can hear that dull roar. I love it.

  20. I reckon its gonna cost you at minimum a tank of fuel - £100ish. If you are really really worried about fuel costs, the zed is not for you mate.

Get it and enjoy the drive rather than worry about an hour each side of how long it will take you or £20 more or less in fuel. When you get her you will be out all the time and filling her up constantly anyway. Its the way of the Zed.

Jay, Irfan, maybe Neilp and I are going to have a wee static meet soon - you should come meet some fellow members and get some ideas for your car!

Im not overly fussed about the cost, im just wondering as ive not got the car yet, and have little idea how much it'll cost. I am hoping its not a couple of hundred right enough, like i explained i saved up for the car, flying down to get it, had it inspected, etc. Im skint!!!

Any plans for any mods yet then?:lol::lol:

Haha, thankfully, ive decided no mods this time...yet ;)
