  1. Lesson learnt - don't ever play with your actual policy or even quote with your correct details online!

Just use dummy details apart from details that effect the price. Lets you quote without being bombarded with marketing and you can even go back to your current insurer to quote the "new customer" price. Also lets you "tweak" the price without setting off alarm bells...

  2. must be somewhere closer to you that does them?

I think "The Wheel Specialist" is opening a branch in Bournemouth soon but they are more like £400.

  3. There's a thread on here by me which goes into a lot of detail about it (search for '911 content'), but suffice to say it's my dream car and it's as perfect a sports coupe as I could want. Flicks between GT cruiser and ballistic B-road blatter with a flick of a switch, with genuine character and every day usability. Love it. :D

Sounds great, glad you love it! Did you contemplate the turbo?

  4. Interesting comments by both Ekona & wesmin.

Reading into it the comments I think I can live with the negative (maintenance/fuel economy/interior) for the trade off for the performance and more of a rush driving.

Ekona - I considered the Impreza but I would want the PPP STi that I found harder to come by and was quite a lot higher to insure due to the "modifications" even though they are factory fit. I am still considering a WR1 though as in it's "standard" form it has similar output to the FQ Evo - 320-ish BHP.

wesmin - 370Z would be a possibility but too expensive at the moment and I think I am after another turbo powered car.

  5. Genuinely wondering if they are that much more costly than an evo though

Purchase price is more, ones I have seen are £20k+ and running costs have got to be more I would have thought? Also don't like the idea of having the thought of a £8k engine rebuild.

  6. Get a TVR if you want thrill

You hit the nail on the head. My dream car - would have a Tuscan/T350 in a shot but can't afford one (to run/rebuild one!). So for now they are off limits! Just hope there are some left when I can afford one!

  7. Ive just sold my evo and bought the zed and still dont regret it. It had 390hp and was pretty quick. A good bit quicker than the zed but to be honest i prefer driving the zed. The evo always felt like it was trying to kill you  i had alot of good times and alot Of expensive times aswell. Everything seems to be really expensive for it and there always something needing done to it

I think maybe that is the thrill that I am after?!

You say it was expensive? What sort of things needed doing? Was it spent on mods or just general maintainance?

Not sure if I could live with the boy racer image either but I still can't shake the idea of owning one.

  8. Hope you have checked the insurance on an Evo...comes up x3 times more expensive than a Zed for me :scare:

And of course, you need to service it every 6 months...

I understand where you are coming from, Evos do look mental good fun, but I am still sticking with the Zed

Yeah, done the quotes and specced it up. Would cost me approx £3000 inc increase in insurance to swap for a 320BHP-ish Evo 8. Spending £3000 in upgrades to the zed just wouldn't cut it. Would would I need to spend? £8k++ for forced induction?

I do relatively low miles too so servicing costs etc would be reduced.

  9. Ricey had one I think

Personally I would not give up the comfort that the Zed has for a bone shaker that may be faster. Why not keep the Zed and get a Westfield or such like for the weekend?

Yeah, that is what I would be worried about. Loosing the comfort and comparative luxury and good looks of the zed for the extra performance that I desire.

I think I miss the acceleration of the superbikes that I used to own, maybe asking too much for a car to replace that? Can't really afford to run 2 cars so need 1 to do everything.

  10. Had the zed for about 9 months now and found it to be a very competent gt car that looks great and sounds better. But I feel it is underpowered, I wish I didn't because I love everything else about it.

It may be its progressive power delivery instead of turbo/vtec that I have had previously that makes it feel slower than it actually is.

I have looked into tuning options but short of expensive forced induction mods that would give the power that I am after I don't see anything cost effective that I can do.

Always had an itch in the form of a Mitsubishi Evo that I have always wanted to scratch... Would I regret it? Does anyone have any experience?

  11. Dare I ask approx how much in £'s the fuel was please?

Didn't really keep track (subconsciously on purpose I think!) but I would approximate 500-600 Euros plus tolls which can be avoided but I think they are worth the cost.

Managed around 30MPG overall including a lot of town/city driving and air con on constantly!

  12. Nice trip  The Millau Viduct is something else, how many times did you cross it? We did it three times in a morning when we were last there, cost a fortune but well worth it for the videos

Hope you had a coffee in Casino Square at the Cafe de Paris B)

I love trips like this :yahoo:

Crossed only the once, you only really get the true scale when you are underneath it though I found.

Yup, certainly did go to the Cafe de Paris, 30 Euros for 2 drinks and an ice cream but worth it for the people/motor watching!

  13. Looks like you had a fantastic journey. Gorgeous weather by the looks goodof you to bringit back to the uk with you :teeth:

Yeah, it was great weather. Didn't see another 350Z anywhere in France... did they never release them in France? Not many Nissan dealers? Just seemed plagued with the usual Citroen/Pugs, Audi Q7's and the odd exotica down south.

To be fair, I haven't seen another 350Z since I have been home either though!

  14. Just got back from a 2,000+ mile tour around France with the 350. Saw some great sights and some great roads, fantastic car for the journey and performed faultlessly!

    Some photos from the trip:

The stormtrooper styled Enzo is apparently a Gemballa MIG-U1 (never heard of it either) - apparently 1 of 25. Craziest hypercar I have ever seen!

  15. I honestly don't know if they use UK call centres anymore, but I'm with Admiral now and although only phoned them twice, once to get the policy and once to amend it, both times were UK, and with Elephant being under the same corporate umbrella, I can only assume they are the same...

I spoke to what sounded like a Yank/Canadian when I took out my new policy (outside of usual business hours). Pretty helpful etc but try and flog you a load of extras before you can take out the policy, couldn't just buy it online like usual.

From my experience insurance companies always have the best/highest trained English speaking operators when you take out policies & get quotes and the worst/incomprehensible operators when you come to modify/cancel etc... I wonder why?

  16. Hope there is no catch, just got my policy from them moving from Admiral (same company) but they couldn't match Elephant - don't ask me why, even the operator couldn't explain it!

£430 for me... 27 in good area, pretty good deal I thought considering.

I consider all insurance companies the same, all daylight robbery and always go for the cheapest.
