To be fair quite a bit dripped in and when I put it back together there was a lot of smoke that needed burning off with a swift drive. Can anyone help with a price of a rebuild?
-
Yeah I used a different gauge this time just incase. I followed this
Measurement of Compression Pressure
1. Warm up engine.
2. Turn ignition switch off.
3. Release fuel pressure (See How to Change Fuel Filter)
4. Remove all spark plugs.
5. Disconnect distributor center cable.
6. Attach a compression tester to No. 1 cylinder.
7. Depress accelerator pedal fully to keep throttle valve wide open.
8. Crank engine (let it turn over 7 times) and record highest gauge indication.
9. Repeat the measurement on each cylinder as shown above.
Note: Always use a fully charged battery to obtain specific engine revolution.
Compression Pressure kPa (kg/cm2, psi) / RPM
Standard = 1,236 (12.6, 179) / 300
Minimum = 1,040 (10.6, 151) / 300
Difference limit between cylinders = 98 (1.0, 14) / 300
10. If cylinder compression in one or more cylinders is low, pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinders through the spark plug hole and re-test compression.
* If adding oil helps compression, piston rings may be worn or damaged. If so, replace piston rings after checking piston.
* If pressure stays low, a valve may be sticking or seating improperly. Inspect and repair valve and valve seat.
* If compression in any two adjacent cylinders is low and if oil does not help compression, there is a leak past the gasket surface. If so, replace cylinder head gasket.

And another update! So done my compression test with all plugs out and wot. 125psi on all cylinders. Bad news applied some oil and it shot up to 300psi! So I'm guessing that'll be the rings shot then?
-
I mean the throttle, would that make up 20psi?
-
Does that make a big difference? And the fact I left 5 plugs in whilst doing each cylinder? I think I'll redo it today.
-
No. Just depressed the clutch and turned it 7 times.

So......a little update. Ordered some Titan pro race s 5w40 oil and a new set of plugs. When changing the plugs I noticed oil on the threads and a little on the tips 😱. So I did a compression test and all 6 cylinders were done to 120 psi 😱😱😱. I wasn't sure if I should leave all plugs In and do one at a time so that's how I did it. Does it sound like the rings have gone? If so how much is it for a rebuild and anyone know of a good garage in scotland that's reliable and not extortionate? It could be the case I'll need to trade her in ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

Sorry to hijack your thread here. But when I did a compression test I was at 120psi on all cylinders. The cars done nearly 100k miles. How bad could it be?

Anyone had any experience with these and are they worth fitting to a revup?
Cheers

Paid £135 so looking for £105 including delivery.

Yeah I realise the problem is still there. But the car runs perfect and if I hadn't changed to decats I'd have been unaware completely. I'm going to change the oil again to 15w50 Mobil during this hot weather were having

Wee update guys. Put old cats back on and just as mark said, smoke is all but gone. So another question, if I buy HFCs will that be adequate to eliminate the smoke or am I better staying stock cat and just get the gemini system?

Oh dear! Is there anything I can do? I only recently did an oil change. Around 1-2k miles ago. I just checked my oil level and you're right it's halfway between the min and max level. I used Mobil 1 0-40 new life oil. Is that maybe why it's burning so quickly as I usually change the oil every 3-4 months or 3k miles. I know it should be 5w30 oil but which type as there is ford or fe oil and vw or esp oil?

Is this still available?

The smoke happened immediately after putting on the decats. But when I was fitting them I did manage to damage one of the flexis on the y pipe. 😱. So I've got a rattle a blow and all this blueish smoke, oh and the smell is unbearable! 😷

Yeah it's really bad. Mark at abbey said it could be that my car burns oil and because there's no cats there then it's coming straight out the exhaust!

I take it there's no other way to reduce the smoke. Would a different exhaust system help. Ie I was looking at the invidia gemini.

When I say add oil I meant down the plug tube
