  1. Excellent news then - the car isnt buggered! I have read a few bits about this uprev and was already interested in it to free up a little more power but now you tell me it removes these limiters i can imagine it makes quite a big difference overall on these cars! I can understand the first gear being restricted or just rev limited a little lower but not second and definately not third! I mean these cars arent meant to be soft!!!
  2. Now that ive finished pootling around in my 'new' 57 plate 350Z HR i decided to take it down the local bypass (dragstrip) to see if it could really do 0-100mph in 13.1 seconds as EVO magazine boldly claim! 1st gear take off feels like something actually quite wrong with the car (no ESP kick in) and this continues all the way until 4th gear where there is then definately a 310bhp feeling! Is this normal in a HR Z thats got a clean bill of health and which ive just recently put in some cosworth panel filters? Must say it left me wanting more
  3. Thanks for the replies chaps I think ive settled on the Berk HFC's as they make a good noise and actually give a power gain so a no brainer. I would also like to stick a full Nismo system onto the Berks but try as i might there seems to be no one in the UK that sells this system!? Where have any owners bought theres from? Also can anyone point me in the direction of a HR model fitted with a scorpion system so i can have a little listen. Its purely a vanity purchase as i just want the best sound really - i'm sure i wont lose any power anyway! Thanks again
  4. Hello all, Have had the 350Z for 1 week now and its pretty much all good but i feel the standard exhaust sounds a bit meh over 3k rpm. So Has anyone modified the exhaust on their HR model? Have been looking at the berks HFC's but would like a y-pipe and back system to compliment them but i cant seem to find any exhausts to fit this model of the Z ? There are plenty of systems advertised for the DE models... so would these DE exhausts fit an HR?!? I am most interested in the scorpion system as it seems well rated and also really good value but again not sure it'll fit. Anyone fitted this system to an HR? Got a video link? Thanks in adv.
  5. Update... I'm now told that the car has had a complete clutch and wasnt fixed. The Nissan dealer has said that the 'lay shaft bearing has failed'. The nice people ive bought the car from are going to repair it for me. Cant help being somewhat amused as i thought my old Alfa Romeo's were meant to be troublesome but having read sooo much about the various dual mass flywheel and main shaft bearing problems with these cars (even late models with as little as 4500 miles on the clock!) i'd say that there is obviously a serious flaw thats never really been sorted by Nissan Whats especially scary is that if the main shaft bearing completely fails then the rear wheels are going to lock up. Imagine that in the middle of you're favourite corner It wont put me off my car as i know it will be sorted but i will not take for granted any of these so called normal sounds from a 350z clutch/gearbox. I should finally say its much thanks to this and other 350Z forums that i have the info needed to know whats going on with my car
  6. Thanks Alex. They have replaced the release bearing and therefore eliminated this potential problem which sadly hasnt cured it though. I understand the fly is dual mass having read through various other threads now which could indeed be the problem. However having spent the last 2hrs trawling the various 350Z forums its looking more as though its the g/box input shaft bearing. The symptom for buggered clutch release bearing seem to be the noise occurs when the clutch pedal is down/disengaged and that if the noise occurs while the pedal is up then its the input bearing that is screwed. The following video is almost exactly the sound that i am hearing although i am sure the noise is totally gone when the pedal is down (rather than just quieter). Reading back through this particular forums pages it seems alot of people seem to think these noises are just a characteristic of these cars! I wonder do they make this sound when they were new... i suspect not! So any other opnions!?
  7. Hi guys, I am buying a 57 plate 313 Zed with 40000 miles on the clock. Its with a dealer and Ive actually put a deposit down on the car as i like it soo much and at £12k the price was right but this purchase was subject to fixing a problem. There is a very audible clicking (almost knocking) from the engine bay at any revs. The noise disappears when depressing the clutch pedal and returns and stays constant when the pedal is 'up'. On the test drive i found the clutch action to generally feel very good with only maybe a slight graunch at the bottom of the pedal travel but there didint seem to be any slippage and the gearbox was a joy to use and seemed mechanically fine. I noticed 1st and 2nd abit tight initially but i guessed probably fair enough given its been stood around and the car was 'cold'. Anyway both myself and the service manager guessed it would be the clutch thrust/release bearing and they have since replaced it however i was surprised as they called me today to say the noise hasnt gone and that they are going to send the car to a Nissan main agent to be looked at. I am starting to get abit worried about this purchase now having gone through my admittedly limited knowledge of car mechanics and coming to the conclusion that the only moving part that could be making this sound would be perhaps the input shaft bearing in the gearbox which i also gues would cost £££'s or ££££'s to fix I would be interested to hear from any tech heads that might be able to advise me on this one! I also started wondering if nissan would warrant a problem when the car is less than 4yrs old still? Any help greatly appreciated!! Thanks in adv!
  8. Hello again, *Update to my original welcome thread* I am due to collect the car in two days but the dealer rang today and told me that the new release bearing hadnt fixed the tapping noise ! I was most amazed by this as i cant think what else it could be!? The good news is they are going to take it into nissan main dealer (well i assume this is good news lol) and sort it out there instead. I mean its not like i was really excited to be picking it up in two days lol
  9. Hi, i am in the same boat as you here... looking mainly for the best sound poss for my 313Zed. Having done some research on youtube to my ears the Fujita dual short ram intakes sound the best. However the Nismo dual and the Injen dual (both short ram) sound great too. I have no idea where to buy any of these from though!
  10. Thanks guys for the welcomes and the tips! Perhaps owning Alfa Romeo's for 5yrs has made me paranoid to little sounds etc that appear out of nowhere.... disappear.... then never heard again lol I am confident the replacement clutch should sort the noise out though and its a bonus to know the car has a fresh clutch right from my start of ownership 2k Rpm did indeed seem high to me but yeah i guess the car has not been used much recently in fact it has only done 2000 miles since Oct '10. It was started and test driven on fumes as well which may not have helped? I forgot to mention the ECU check light was on and stayed on. The dealer mentioned that this was prbably down to having been started and stopped a number of times with very little fuel and that i shouldnt be concerned. I insisted they sorted this during the PDI check but maybe that could explain the high idle? I must say the engine pulled strong on the test drive and the dealer was quite encouraging for me to give it some beans.... which it did Thanks again.
  11. Hi folks, I have decided to join you lucky fellows in 350Z ownership after 5 satisfying years of Alfa GTV v6 ownership. Just today placed a deposit on a 57plate 350Z today with 40000miles on the HR engine, having found my spec/colour of choice (silver GT + rays 18's) After a 10min test drive i knew i had to have this car! As much as i loved my Alfa GTV the Zed is in a different league dynamically, in fact my initial impressions of the drive exceeded my already high expectations so i am actually feeling pretty chuffed right now I did manage to find one issue with the car i'm buying though and would appreciate any advice you can give. When i cold started the car the engine idled at just over 2k rpm which i assume is normal with these motors. The actual problem was i immediately heard a clicking noise from the engine bay that changed speed with engine rpm. Depressing the clutch pedal made the noise disappear completely so i am fairly confident that this is just a worn/failed clutch release bearing. On the test drive there wasnt any obvious slipping from the clutch but the revs did shudder when changing gear (which btw felt very positive ). I have done the deal with the dealer on the basis that the clutch will be replaced so i presume i dont need to worry about this but if anyone thinks i should then i would be happy to hear from them. Thanks in advance
