  1. Hi Chris, seen this and seems like everthing E type, bl##dy expensive. £900 by the time you have all the parts.

Sorry to everyone following for the lack of updates but I've not done a huge amount because of work again. This little inconvenience called "work" does however fund the project.

To bring everything up to date.

The engine is still at Guy Broad Motorsports but is now built. There has been a bit of a delay while the triple SU carburettors were rebuilt but these are now done and waiting to be bolted to the engine. The inlet manifold has also been port matched to the big valve head. The engine will then be set up on their dyno, hopefully in the next few weeks.

The original engines were supposed to be 265bhp but these were probably the factory tuned test cars. In reality the actual output was more like 245bhp.

Hopefully with all the work on the engine we should see nearer the 300 mark. It will be interesting to see. This will give a similar output to a Zed but with a lighter car so should be lively.

Anyway the bit everyone skips to.........pics!

  2. Hi Chris, a friend of mine is competing for the first time in this year's BRSCC MX5 Championship and is absolutely loving it. The season opened with 3 races at Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago. They are racing at Oulton Park on 17th June.

Although enjoying it, he says it's a steep learning curve with some very competitive characters.

Need to catch up soon, hopefully will have my engine back in a few weeks.

  3. Not taking sides either way the following observations are based on a lot of work related dealings with Eastern European countries.

    1. E mails and messages do not translate well. I often edit mine several times before sending just to minimise any chance of them being misinterpreted or worse still offence taken.

    2. They do not respond to said E mails or messages with quite the same sense of urgency that we do.

Not saying it's right or wrong, it can be very frustrating but after 20 years I've kind of got used to it.

  4. Anyone bought gold as an investment ?

You're not still trying to find somewhere to launder that meth lab money are you Hugh?

I told you, Russian savings account, it's the future. That or buy Sterling, that's dirt cheap at the moment......oh wait, you've already got Sterling.

  5. I highly doubt McLaren only sold 18 cars in the UK last year. They have 6 showrooms, so that would mean they only sold 3 cars per dealer, or one car every four months. I'm sure they're profitable, but they're not that profitable!

I would imagine there is a significant difference in numbers of cars "registered" in the UK, the source of the figures, as opposed to "sold" as well.

Interesting figures, I see that Bentley have almost doubled the number registered, as have Jaguar. Some big fat commission cheques there then.

  6. Unfortunately not a huge amount to report. I've been mad busy with work. The engine is away at Guy Broad Motorsports, a Jaguar Xk specialist who is also rebuilding the big valve head I acquired. It's being rebuilt to a fast road spec new internals and all balanced. Hopefully around the 300bhp mark. Given that the car is a bit lighter than a Zed it should be lively enough. I've also taken the plunge and gone for their Quaife 5 speed gearbox and AP clutch.

The idea is that they return me a fully built and dyno tested engine and gearbox assembly so that I know it works before installing it in the car. The triple carbs need jetting and setting up which seems a dark art in itself.

It's yet another major cost I hadn't budgeted for but in the end I just didn't feel confident about rebuilding the engine myself.(Sorry Keyser) The fact that someone posted on the Jag forum recently that they had bent 4 valves by putting a wrong shim in, reinforced this.

In the meantime I'm also waiting for the 4 pot calipers and vented discs upgrade to arrive so that I can start assembling the rear axle assembly.

Once some bits arrive or there's visible progress I'll get some pics up. All I can do is apologise for the lack of progress and thanks for keeping up.

  7.

Not even worth it imho. Better off putting it into something worthwhile (like property or supercar) if you've got a six figure sum, or keeping it at close hand on instant retrieval should rates go negative.

    IANAFA etc.

I think it's one of the reasons the classic car market has gone crazy, whether it will continue, I don't know.

You should have bought that 355 Hugh.
