  1. Hi guys,

Earlier in the post I was asking for help getting lots of power from my Zed. I am looking to replace the cams and spring as the next engine mod, and the Brain Crower (stage 3) set keep coming up. Now, when I brought my car, the owner told me it was a Z33 JDM import running just shy of 300HP as standard with the 35DE engine. I am pretty sure this is the rev-up version of the car but I am not certain. Before I go and she out a couple of grand, does anyone know where I can find the exact spec of my car, as the owners log doesn't say and Nissan don't seem to know (or be bothered to find out).

I have also noticed that Cosworth do supply a kit, but there is a fair price hike for the name. Worth the extra lump or not?

    Cheers

  2. Cheers guys, most of the advice seems to be get a fast car if I want a fast car. In my mad little world, I am fed up of pissing my hard earned cash up the wall and need another hobby...so making the Z a beast seems like an idea. I would love a GTr, but i know as soon as tuning parts start becoming available and more companies can crack the ECU crypto, i'd end up spending cash on that too. It's not about the speed, it's the sense of achievement that I have done it. As for a scooby, cheap power is easily come by, doesn't mean it is fun. They are like buying a fat ugly bird a drink at the end of the night; it's cheap, you get what you want...but you sure as hell don't want anyone to see you with her!!!

    I think it's super Z - 1 ; GTR - 1!!

  3. Yeah, I'd like to twin charge. i know it's a fairly new concept but it's good to be different. The Skoda Fabia VRs is a twin charged 1.4 with just shy of 200horses so I am told. Meant to be a smooth ride too!

  4. I have read that a supercharger is the way to go, but I don't want kill the engine by not bothering with internals. The lump of cash is pretty much dependent on how patient I am on saving up. Considering the alternative option is a GT-R that has 460odd bhp for £40k for a used model, i'd happily spend 15k to surpass that. But that will include a few additional 'cosmetic' mods.

Is there anything glaringly obvious that I have missed out?

    cheers

  5. Guys

I am looking to break the 400hp mark in a oner with a lump of cash, but would like some advise on what mods should be done. I have a 2003 Z33 VQ35DE engine (JDM Import)

    My plan is the following:

De-cat full exhaust system with 2.5" bore throughout

    Induction kit

    Lightweight clutch and suitable flywheel

Uprated (500cc) fuel injectors and fuel pump

    Performance plugs

    Performance cams (stage 2/3???)

Brakes have already been done, and the previous owner lowered the car. I will probably replace the whole suspension system though. Are there any other not tuning mods I should consider for this kind of power increase, ie anti-roll bars/strut braces.

Then I am looking at a either a small supercharger and large-ish turbo, or twin turbo if possible, with the appropriate intercooling system. However the last turbo'd car I had was a L reg Celica GT4 when I was 19 and left it standard under the bonnet, so I have on the billy basic knowledge of them.

This is my first big project so any advice would be greatly appreciated. If i can hit 450 bhp, hopefully this is a cheaper option than getting a GT-R

    cheers

  6. Hi guys

I have and 03 JDM import with the standard 300hp VQ35DE lump. Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the intake system with that of the HR. From what I can find out, the engines are identical in the physical size and shape sense. And would the standard ECU need to be replaced or could it be re-mapped to accommodate the additional intake??

Or would it simply be easier to swap out the complete engine and all associated components for power gains??

    Cheers

  7. I am in the RAF and I can tell you from an insiders point of view, we want to be effective and help. But the Libya conflict is looking like it could be a repeat of Iraq and with cuts in man power left, right and centre, it is going to be a stretch!!! Especially with the constant reduction of the perks of being in the military!!!

I was at Marham for 3 years and the flying Sqns do a great job, good luck to the lads out there. No doubt I'll join you all sometime soon!!!

  8. Cheers guys, eventually I am aiming to supercharge but not for at least 18 months and seeing as I'll be saving a fair old wedge for that, I guess I can allow for a few extra pennies for injectors and pump. I do normally ignore the guy with the scooby, but sometimes he goes on and on and on!!!

Chris 'I - I have plenty of experience with tuning NA and turbos, thanks mate....but as pointed out on this forum, no two cars, be it two nissans, a nissan and Toyota, Evo and Scooby, or cosworth and RS Turbo are the same. This is why I ask the question.

What it called is LEARNING. This is my first zed so if you are going to comment, please make it constructive mate!!! Thanks

Fiesta XR2i, Escort GTi, Mondeo ST24, Celica GT4, Honda Civic Type S, Mercedes CLK 230........not a bad list of cars tuned; turbos, Superchargers, NA, V6!!!!

  9. I'm getting a remap in April but want to get the most out of it. I have done all the basic tuning but I have been told by an avid scooby enthusiast, that larger flow rate injectors are a must to get the most out of the mapping.

I'm thinking 600cc, but I'm having trouble finding them. Is an upgrade to 500cc pointless, esp if i am looking to get some big power outputs in the long term?

And where can I find a reliable UK dealer for said items????

  11. Christ no, insuring it is bad enough with a clean licence!! I'm on a RAF camp and every now and then we are told we can use the runway at weekend when there is no flying.

Re-map is sounding good. RS Tuning/Abbey...either of them down south-east way? I work away overseas alot so maybe get a few weeks every 3 months with the car. I have been told there is a Zed tuning specialist Leeds way??

  12. Is it worth finishing the 'power tuning' before a remap. I'm not looking to go mad at this point, stage one kind of stuff (straight-through exhaust, cold air induction, ecu chipping, etc), but I do wan't to maximise the power output as cost effectively as possible.

I don't track my car, but every now and then at weekends I get to use and empty air force runway to batter scoobys. Though the standard of their matchbox cars is getting better!!

  13. Guys...

My jap import Zed has been converted to good old british MPH!!! Result. But she tops at 122mph. I know she has more to give but I need to know how and where I can get the bloody limiter removed.

    Any info would be splendid.

    Cheers

  14. Hi guys,

I have had my zed for a few months now, but I am notoriously bad with directions!!! Luckily I have an import with sat-nav! Well, not so lucky as I don't read, or have the time to learn, Japanese.

I am sure there must be a way of converting the system to English (Even the American type would suffice), however, I cannot seem to find any where on the web or by asking about on how to do it, or what is needed!

If anyone can point me in the right direction, offer advice or knows of a company who can rectify this, it would be greatly appreciated. The missus is getting fed up of arriving in style....LATE!!!

    Cheers

    :)

    Marco
