  1. I get a rubbing noise when turning left and sometimes right. Like tck tck tck tck like its catching on one thing. I dont think its the tyre rubbing as I didnt have that before.

Could be track rod end, ball joint or mor than likely a wheel bearing. Take the wheel off and see whether it has enough grease. Another check compare the heat of both front wheels after a reasonably brake free run.... if it hot it's the bearing.

    ..... Worth a try :wave::shrug:

  2. Hi guys and girls, can i top up my coolant with normal tap water.

I know your meant to use ionised water but my girlfriend is at work and has no access to ionised water. she only has a water dispenser(typical office water bottle thingy) or the tap.

i only want her to top it up a cm or two just to take it back above min before driving home.

    what do you think?

Yep, of course you can, it's ionised water for the battery, tap water is fine as it will only be absorbed by the properties of the glycol in your antifreeze. Watch how much though you don't want to dilute the strength of your antifreeze too much but only an issue when winter comes

  3. For anyone who remembers, I was after these last year but traveling came between us. I have FINALLY bought them and cant stop smiling!

Thank you very much Geoff for my new GTR's! :teeth::thumbs:

  5.

Took the family out last night for Karens nephews 18th and we left both cars at home.... I get up this morning and pull off the drive (we live in a cul de sac in a nice enough area) I look at my missus Ford Focus and its got a double key mark all the way down one side of the car and back

Her side of the family are having a big feud over her Aunty being a serial shite stirrer, liar and trouble maker... The woman has got more issues then TIME Magazine.... The unfortunate thing is she lives 2 streets away with her Uncle who is renowned for being a bit lary and has a criminal record. The 'Uncle' in question had had an argument with the Missus younger Sister earlier last night so was obviously wound up.. The Focus has been parked in the same place in front of the house for 3 years without incident so its to much of a coincidence for it not to be him and the fact my Zed is parked 5 foot away then if it was some mindless dick keying a car for no reason then they would have picked mine.... Now this Uncle and I used to be drinking buddies, he knows my past and he knows that if my car was touched in anyway then I would be on the war path and he would be eating meals through a straw for a long period of time...... The thing is it may not have been my car but it still directly affects me so I am still on the war path...... I want to go round and have words but the Missus and her Mum are telling me I can't cos I have no proof.... I don't think I need it as I will be able to tell when I look in his eyes if its him...

I don't know what to do, I don't like being disrespected in anyway and I want retribution but things are different from a few years ago, Ive got a family and a beautiful 6 month old baby now. The good thing is that the Focus goes in for a part chop tomorrow and TC Harrisons have said they will sort the scratch with no charge (very kind of them). The other good thing is that we are moving soon. But now we have the worry of the new car being targeted

Its all putting a very big dampener on my Zed ownership as well... Its a struggle keeping the car and running a family and new house plus other Zed related issues are making me think I may as well get rid of the damn thing and run an affordable banger for a while that I just dont give a sh!t about.... I will be using the work van for the next few weeks thats for sure..

I really am not happy :boxing:

    Advice welcome

    Hi Mate,

It's difficult having to cope with dim wits like this but don't let em win. You sell the Zed and they get what they want, you generally find when lame brain toss pots can't get it for themselves thay have to resort to these tactics to take the shine off it for them that have managed to get it. :headhurt:

Rise above it, look at the long term picture... in a few months you will be out of easy reach and they will find some bugger else to annoy, look for ways of pissing them off without them knowing and don't make anything of the car being keyed just let it drop

.....as soon as know they have pi**ed you off they've won.

 Wait your chance to get even, revenge is a dish best served cold.

  6. Was my first day at my new work, got there early to find no parking spaces except one in this super old tiny garage, took my time trying to manover the car into it as it was close to a wall on the oposite side and couldnt reverse in so had to fold in my mirrors and kept going in and out until 2cars turned up and i got flusterd and nervous cos it was my first day, ended up scratching my rear drivers wheel arch off the dam rough casted garage doorway!:angry: so anoyed with myself spent the whole day washing it and trying to rub out an impossible scratch with t-cut :byebye: ANYWAY what im trying to say is i went to halfords to ask for gunmetal grey nissan paint but couldnt see any? is it under a diff name as there was a can that looked the same colour but diff name(still nissan) or am i better off going to nissan for it? OR should i not bother tryin myself and pay a pro to do it(how much we talking?)? HELP :blackeye:

These mobile guys are pretty good for localised scuffs on bumpers and bodies, have a look in your Thomson local and get some quotes you may be surprised. Come to you as well and you can watch em at work.:doh:

  7. My recent love affair with the 300C is going very cold at the moment.

Such a shame its a solid beast that is perfect for my long commutes to work and piddly easy to drive however as I have discovered Chrysler has been penny pinching in some areas and unfortunately for me its key engine and gearbox components! Everything has been sorted under warranty and it will probably be bomb proof for ever now but I am losing faith in it now?

I am seriously thinking of selling - paying off a few debts and getting something a lot cheaper, to buy and run, simpler to maintain myself.

Eventually I will only run the Beetle and the Van to work but as the Beetle wont be ready yet I thought about a temporary stand in?

So options I have thought about?

MR2 roadster again (48mpg and cheap to run know them well, had 2)

Honda Prelude? anyone had one of these?

Toyota Starlet - cheap as chips any good?

Nissan almera GTI (or SRI whichever it is?) any good?

Got to be Japanese and cheap to run but no biscuit tins please - I have a 700 mile commute every week?

Appreciate any advice on above or any others?

    thanks :)

I think the Starlet and the Almera are out of the question for 700 mile a week commute. I have a 400 mile a week commute which started in a small car but gradually broke my resolve.

You do really need the comfort of a saloon, four doors, wheelbase, size all factors in returning a comfy drive.

After going through the same process as yourself and driving more or less every Jap car variant I finally plumped for a Honda Accord Type S with all the goodies -- second hand of course and only a 2.0 Litre but very good for the long journeys.

I-VTEC engine has given no issues yet... finger crossed, and with the cruise on returns an easy 38mpg but still has a bit of punch when you need it.

    Just an opinion,

    :wave::wave::wave:

  8. Heads up guys.... New series starts on Sunday :yahoo:

    2 questions

    1) Is it still good or has it gone a tincey bit crap

    2) What was your favourite episode

    My answers

    1) Not crap but sometimes feels a bit toooo staged at times

    2) Antartic, the Toyota trucks.. really enjoyed that

Good entertainment the only thing that gets on my tits is the way that Clarkson always wins the challenges that's the staged bit..... Any bugger can drift on an airfield, looks impressive but in reality it's just adding sparkle to his ego.

    Tiff Needel ..... there's a real racer

  9. Hi people, just want to say thanks to all who run this site and take an active part in helping others, i'm sure i will be needing your help at some point. Still looking for a Z, bit scared of imports and want the GT pack, pref in black with lowish miles

Same here, been hiding the money from the misses so as I can do the deed. Best way just turn up in it, have a blue and the next day it's all over....yeah right. Enough of the fantasy, me too looking for an "06" but must have bluetooth, satnav and be 75mm narrower than normal so as I can get her in the garage...... the last part of the spec proving difficult to source so might have to to cut some chunks out of the garage uprights to accomodate the wing mirrors. My kind of lateral thinking that one!!!!!

    I'll get there...!!

    :cloud9::drive1:shrug:

  10. :welcome:

I had almost the same 'to buy or not to buy' issue but in reverse............. Went to view a house and the first thing i made the vendor do was get a tape measure out and tell me how big the garage was! The car always comes first...........

Good idea ........ change the house !!!! It's always the simple answer that are hard to come by.

Seriously I have thought about it.

  11. Engine management I feel is the issue, not necessarily major though, can be reset/remapped by any grunt who knows what he is doing but don't be afraid of the dealer if you have a warranty. You can always ask for diagnosis only if you think there going to sting you.

    Give em a whirl!!

    :drive1

Not any grunt can remap the 350z ECU, only 2 companies in the country that can currently remap the ECUs.

Point taken, I did mean a grunt with the right equipment... You can buy the said unit from the US and alter your management to suit, just plug and play via the OBC port. But the mapping unit though hand held will set you back $500 , dealer has access to this equirpment via diagnostics. :drive1

  12. Thinking again could also just be a sticky throttle, again a job for someone who knows... located in intake plenum I beleive but don't quote - as they say in the airforce root cause - a little bit of poverty.

Worth a go, also let them know you know whats what.

  14. Its all dependant on what constitutes a "standard" garage. Modern built houses are almost always provided with single integral garages that you cant fit a car in, at least not if you want to get out afterward.

If its a slightly older house, then the space may be larger - but beware the room needed to open the Zeds doors, which are quite large.

70's built Barrat homes with single garage, have managed to get new model BMW 3 series Coupe in it.

  15. Im not sure if my clutch is slipping or what but anyway...

I noticed a while back on the motorway cruising at 50mph - avg speed zone (cruise controll on in 6th)

When it finally came to an end i dipped the clutch and changed in to gear... BUT as soon as i dipped the clutch i heard the revs go up slightly before going back down untill i change then release clutch and everything is normal again...

Now every time i change gear if i really take extra care and stare at the revs i can see they go up, more so when im accelerating hard and then dip clutch. (MY FOOT IS COMPLETELY OFF GAS) it goes up slightly before settling back down.

What is this? I hope nothing is wrong... ive got 1 year warrantee but i would hate to not have my Z and trust nissan monkeys to fix it

Check to see if your 350 has the rev up engine, standard through 2005 and some 2006, dependent on first registartion.

  16. Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Replaced my discs and pads all round with EBC Turbogroove and Yellowstuff pads. I get a funny grinding noise that varies as the wheels rotate. THought it might have been the bearings so took it in to Abbey for them to have a look (feeling like a clueless muppet).

Apparantly its nothing to worry about and Simon (awesome helpful chap) said its just the pads picking up on the slots in the discs. I've seen a few posts crop up about the compatibility of yellowstuff and them only being designed for flat discs.

Does anyone else get this noise with their brakes? Specifically the same brakes that I have?

It's bloody annoying as noises go and I'd like to understand it more / know if anyone else in the same boat as me.

    Cheers,

    James

P.S On a totally separate note - big thx to everyone at Abbey. They really do live up to their reps for being so helpful. I'll defo be returning to them for any work that needs to be done.

Those yellowstuff pads are really damn abrasive, you will probably find once they have worn the the discs away they will stop grinding.

Do you find any benefit from the??? under braking??

  17. Get a roadster, as long as the garage door is wider it doesn't matter how much room you have!! Haven't tried mine in the garage yet but that will be my plan if I can't open the doors!!

That's a very possible option.... jump over the press "the close the lid button" and Bobs your uncle!!!

  18. Hi,

New to forum and need help making a decision. To buy or not to buy... a 350Z. Will the bugger fit in a satndard garage??? I know the dimensions of the sucker are available anywhere but that don't help when trying to find out whether the beast will go in your garage.

Buying it has a second car for weekend fun/interest and currently running a Honda Accord Type S which will relegated to the drive hopefully, if I can get the sucker in. The Honda is a bit of a squeeze at 15" longer than the ZED and 2.5" narrower according to figures but figures ain't no help... anyway length not the problem.

The local Nissan dealer wouldn't lend me one to have a try so he lucked out with a potential sale... any help thoughts on this would be appreciated...any of you got standard garages???
