  1. Sorry chap, didn't mean for the post to reflect badly on Sky...I've always had a top service from you! It was quite an amusing experience
  2. That's where my MR2 makes light work of the snow...oodles of traction!! Effectively makes the car like a snowmobile...power and weight at the back and little skis at the front!! It really doesn't strugggle in this weather, and very good to get from house to a clearer main road... I used one of our company cars in the snow last year, a Golf Plus!! The traction control threw a hissy fit and you just couldn't get anywhere, especially if it involved turning and accelerating at the same time!!
  3. LOL...good advice guys!! It's not snowing here, only had about 5 minutes this morning on the way to work. The guy was going to take the car to work today as his commute goes straight past my house...so in the worst case scenario I could always opt for a good inspection under my nice dry car port and maybe a quick passenger drive. It seems a good price for a low mileage 55 plate GT model, plus the usual bit of haggling!!
  4. I've found a nice example local to me, which I should be test driving tonight! Any opinions/advice welcome!! http://www.pistonheads.com/SALES/1376082.htm
  5. I very nearly had this happen to me! I changed my MR2 a couple of years ago and informed my insurance company, Sky Insurance...I didn't recieve a new certificate, but as they didn't say they would send a new one out it slipped my mind to keep an eye out for it coming in the post. It turns out I was making payments to them, but the policy hadn't gone through their system!! So I was on a day out in Matlock, got pulled over by an angry looking policeman and asked to join him in his car. After explaining who my insurance was with, him phoning them up to check I did have a policy and them confirming...my heart rate was then able to return back to normal!! He ended up showing me all the systems in his car that character-recognise the number plates of each car that drives by and runs the details through a database before letting me go...and even said he didn't mind my illegal rear plate as although the characters were slightly too small at least it was legible!!
  6. +1 Over on the MR2OC, you get a lot of newbies spending all their cash on engine mods or putting bodykits on...but their cars are on awful tyres and the suspension's not been aligned in years!! Then they post up a few months later saying they've spun on a roundabout!! I've always recommended people follow this order; Chassis/handling improvements - Lowering, stiffening, bracing & brakes...etc. And make sure you get the geometry set up properly!! Breathing mods - Intakes & exhausts...to make it sound better! Aesthetic mods - Kits, carbon, interior bits...etc. Then power mods last of all...not really applicable to 350Zs unless you're talking FI??
  7. Does a car being a Cat D affect insurance costs at all??
  8. Cheers for the replys guys...seem to be a fair few links to the MR2 owners clubs cropping up here!! Now for a few quick questions regarding these two cars: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200945345447120/sort/priceasc/usedcars/make/nissan/model/350_z/radius/40/quicksearch/true/page/1/postcode/ng138sq?previous=%2Fsearch%2Fresults%2Fusedcars%2Fpostcode%2Fng138sq%2Fradius%2F40%2Fmake%2Fnissan%2Fmodel%2F350_z%2Fsort%2Fpriceasc%2Fquicksearch%2Ftrue%2Fpage%2F1&anchor=advert200945345447120&logcode=p http://www.pistonheads.com/SALES/1391732.htm They both say 'Metallic Silver' but I'm pretty sure there's a difference in colour there...is there anywhere I can find PDFs of the old brochures so I can see what colours they came in?? Would also help me work out exactly what's in the GT pack, ie. why the second link has controls on both sides of the steering wheel!! Finally, I think I've decided what sort of thing I'm looking for; a 2004, UK GT model in the lighter colour silver (Metallic Silver I believe??) with about 50k max on the clock. Would a price of between £10k-£11k be reasonable for such a model??
  9. Cheers mate, love your 2...always liked the white ones! The guys on the MR2OC seem to say that the zed is less 'involved' and therefore less exciting...although the general advice over there tends to be to warn anyone away from a car that doesn't rattle you about like a 2 does, by dismissing it as 'boring'!!
  10. Cheers for the welcomes and compliments on the MR2!! Seems there are a few ex-MR2 owners on here!! The other company is Woodsport...although I've heard some nightmare stories about them, Rogue always has better feedback! The V6 swap into a Mk2 is getting quite common, but they really don't seem to give much power & torque as you'd expect for a 3 litre...plus it'll still be an old MR2 on the outside! A V6 Roadster would be more appealing, but I don't like soft tops!
  11. Hi guys, I joined on here a while back but haven't posted anything until now. I'm currently a member of the MR2OC and have been an MR2 owner for around 5 years...I've had two in that time, but now I'm getting bored!! I've posted on there saying I'm thinking of selling my MR2 and everyone is trying to persuade me to either drop a turbo lump in, or buy a turbo. Personally, I think they're looking dated now...and the looks of the 350Z have captivated me since they were released! Plus for me, a V6 engine is a much preferable option to a 4-pot, turbo or not!!! Here's a pic or two of my car if anyone's interested; I look forward to reading up on 350Zs more, and chatting with everyone whilst I make the decision to convert or not!! Cheers, Martin.
