  1. Just got back from RS Tuning after having a re-map.Car was only making 280.5 bhp before the re-map,its now making 296.2.Those are the figures but the real difference is on the road, car feels much more alive now,the throttle response is much more snappier.Feels like a totally different car, really happy with it. :teeth:

Just wish i had done it sooner.

Glad you are happy with it mate :)

  2. Firstly a big thanks to Paul for the works done on Saturday past.

I decided a quite a while ago to have the remap works done to my car. There are no mods apart from the jwt air intake and an aftermarket k2 type exhaust

As I had other things to be doing at the weekend I set off on Friday night got the ferry and travelled down to Leeds getting there at 3am :yawn:

Got up the next morning and headed over to RS. Paul was working on a cleo 172 on the dyno and after hearing is scream at 7500rpm I got a bit concerned about the Z doing that but thought I was there so I might as well go ahead with it now, half an hour later the Renault was finished and I handed over my keys :byebye:

Truthfully I was really aprehensive about the dynoruns but I quickly learnt that Paul definately knows what he is doing

The car was reversed in and strapped down, Paul quickly set about checking the gear ratios and the general set up and after a few runs to check all these set about the initial power runs. Not being an expert at all about these things a few full runs were done and run 4 taken as the average. The initial surprise to me was the stock fuel map--It appeared to be all over the graph  and Paul assured me that he would fix that.

After what appeared to be an un-ending amount of dyno runs, a lot of tapping and pressing buttons on the laptop I noticed the power levels increasing and the car definately started to sound sharper. Its hard to explain in words but it sounded great beforehand but now was even better.

After I think run 25 Paul came out of the car we went out for a think and a smoke :) . He thought he would alter cam timing and again after a few further runs the power peaked at the 282 flywheel. He said that the stock airbox would achieve further gains and that using higher octane fuel would improve things aswell--Intake temps were getting very high due to the fact that the outside temp on Saturday was 18 degrees and in the unit temps were over 32/34 degrees despite all 4 fans working

I believe that the throttle response was atltered to achieve 100% opening and that the revlimiter was increased also.

We had to call it a day at lunchtime as the bridgestones were really sticky and hot and this was affecting the final runs-apparently causing drag on the rollers.

We finally then got the car out for a road test and immediately the difference was evident, the same car but so different, more responsive sharper and crisper sounding and a lot more drive-able

Paul really knows his was around the 350 and I believe a specific car remap is the only way to go :#1:

I said my farewells then :D headed off down the M1 to Derby and immediately the first thing I realised was that the fuel economy was between 35 and 36mpg :scare: Over the remainder of the weekend with quite a lot of town driving and over 4 tanks of fuel later the average was still over 28mpg. well impressed :yahoo:

I would recommend RS and Paul for a stirling job :thumbs:B)

It was a pleasure to meet you.

I'm glad you are happy with the mapping, as people said the stock run was pretty low but this can be a number of thigs, your fuelling was a mile out so gives me a bit of an easier time finding power haha.

It sounds like you had a fun trip on the way back

  3. Apologies for this guys. I've not had chance to get on the web too much recently as i usually do things after work at home but we are in the middle of a house move so that's taken all my time. No excuse but one thing that has been attended is emails.

  4. Hi Guys

As UpRev have lowered the price of the license we have now dropped the mapping to £395+VAT.

This includes all the required dyno time for a full custom tune. You will receive a before and after printout including whp/afr and estimated fly power/torque.

From the 6 N/A ones tuned so far we have seen 11hp and 22lbft average with varied actual output based on mods fitted to the vehicle already.

Any questions please dont hesitate to ask.

  5. I think one of the things that interested people was the quite large variation in power outputs on the dyno...

We were all there on the same day so the results between cars should be comperable.

Is there a particular factor on the 350Z that could be limiting nurrish's numbers? He said the car was mapped with his bungs in the exhaust, which creates a fairly large restriction...

Just as comparison we had cars outputting 265-291 bhpon these rollers, in different states of tune, but not necessarily in the order you might think

If the cars were all run the same then you should be able to compare really yes. The only issue with the older DD is the weather station is not automatic and the user needs to input the info all day to keep things accurate.

Like i said above, a stock 276 car will make 276hp give or take.

The main point is that to compare dyno to dyno is not really possible and thats the reason we offer the before and after to show the actual gains.

If Abbey map a car the numbers from their hub dyno will be different again...

  6. The idea of a before and after is to show actual gains. This allows you to see how much and where.

This, a million times this. Guys, you cannot compare data between dynos done in different places on different days by different operators as there's too many variables. It's irrelevant if the RST dyno over reads or not, as it will still give you the true bump in power between the first run done before the map and the run done after.

While this is true Dan, it is confusing to me (and probably Dave too) why the run at SRR is back down to near stock figures, after it had the initial stock run and remap run at RSTuning.

I'm not saying that RSTuning are no good, but maybe more explaining for us newbies would help for clarification sake.

Assuming that SRR and Weston did not allow the car to climb the rollers the difference between the two will be the HP gains, you can't compare the torque unless the ignition tacho was used as this directly affects the displayed torque reading.

If he wants to run again i will but as said comparing dyno to dyno is not reliable unless everything is done exactly the same.

  7. SRR are indepentent testers so nothing for them to gain either Ian. But I think your right...

Just to clarify RS, you keep the straps loose so it gives better numbers? Or you tighten them up and it gives you 20 more? I dont think its the case of being hung up on the numbers, how else are we supposed to tell!! Unfortunatly there is a magic 300bhp number with these cars (yep psycological!)!

Also on the increases between different dynos I understand the logic, the car made 14bhp on your rollers but between the weston and the SRR it made 19.2 so there is a bit of room for differnet rollers. On the torque however, between the weston and SRR 0 increase... but on RS's it found 30ft/lbs or so.. Given the different rollers and a rough % calculation I would have thought you would have been showing about 275 ft/lbs on the SRR?

As each operator is different we probably all strap the cars slightly different, personally i use 2 main straps and 2 limit straps, the limit straps control how much the car can move forward onto the front roller. IF the limit straps are pulled too tight and the car can't climb the numbers are lower. I do it this way as i find it VERY consistent and easy to control. Maybe i'm wrong but maybe SRR are wrong. There is only one way to test and i'm sure this wont happen.

For an accurate FLY resut you must take the engine out and run on an engine dyno.

I use our dyno as a tuning tool, not as a tool to advertise the numbers and for most the figures are lower than any other RR in the UK.

  8. There is nothing unreliable about any gains we made with the mapping at all on any of the cars. People are too hung up on the actual numbers from Dyno to Dyno when this is near impossible to compare due to different operators. I took the decision to run the Z like I do. On a factory stock 276 hp one it will be about on The money. If people would rather I tighten the limit straps so the car can't move in the rollers then I can and this could change the numbers by 20 hp or so on a 300hp 2wd vehicle. The idea of a before and after is to show actual gains. This allows you to see how much and where.

  9. Guys, the mapping done on the stock ECU is done custom, just like you would tune any aftermarket ECU. Yes the downside on the gen1 is you can't live map BUT this does not mean the quality of the tune will suffer. It just makes the job longer for us the mapper. You have to flash a rom test, log then make changes.

So far the mapping we have done has been from the stock rom and not a generic file sent by email.

We specialise in mapping the OE units on most cars and are fully aware how capable they really are. Put it this way more money is piled into development on these to meet certain laws than any aftermarket, even the high end pectel and the likes can't match certain functions of the stock unit.

P.s. we also have several forced induction clio sports running happily on stock ECU's with full OE knock calibration, cold start and emmisions so the same applies to these :)

  10.

Awesome, bet that things leaves creases in the road!

Is it a stock bottom end then? What rev limit did you go with? When you say the MAF is maxing out at 6500rpm, do you mean with the pressure it can measure? If so could it be an issue in winter as I assuming the SC might make a bit more boost then?

It's raining here and i can assure you second is no fun at all!

The car is totally standard bar a decat and the charger. RPM limit is set to 6700 instead of 6600.

It's not a massive issue with the MAF as like i say it is only just on the limit very high up, it measures air flow not the actual pressure but you are right it will flow slightly more in the winter. Ideally any boosted setup needs a custom MAF which can be scaled in the ECU.

    Paul

  11. Impressive torque!

As soon as my new clutch is fitted I'll be in touch with you again for a tuning session.

I've got the common pop-charger intake, flowed exhaust and plenum changer mods so we will see if you can squeeze anything extra out an engine with those bolt-on bits.

That should keep a lot of inquisitive guys here happy :)

Will be good to see what comes from the mods and mapping :)

  12. Handles it really well actually, to be fair to the uprev guys have done a great job with their development so it helps loads when you fit 60lb injectors and a pump! Nice enough to re-scale so that's a bonus. The MAF is only JUST maxing out at 6500 so that's all good too :)

Found a graph from another DD where a SC one was mapped, i'm VERY pleased with how our's is looking :)

  13. Supercharged one is sat on the dyno at the moment, so far we are on run 50 or so with most of today spent in steady state mapping.

The best run so far has been 405hp but i was not happy with the fairly lean afr so had to add a little more fuel which resulted in 399hp

The curve is fantastic with a peak torque figure of 330lbft and an almost perfect straight power curve!

I'll post a graph tomorrow but so far so good :)

Just have the very light load to map as it's a little rich but nearly there, nothing like jumping in at the deep end with the uprev software haha.
