  1. The alarm problem I've had with this car is annoying but seems to be less frequent these days and is tolerable. However yesterday my car emitted a high pitched, low volume, warning type sound from the rear nearside corner behind the rear light. Well that's what my son and neighbour told me and it sounded for about an hour - no flashing indicators or anything so from the houses it didn't appear to be a car noise. I was away in another car but fortunately my lad had access to my keys (I don't think he'd drive it!) and was able to switch the sound off by unlocking the car.

The only noise of that type I have had is when it's telling me to put it in 'Park' - it's a semi-auto.

    Any ideas?

  2. For starters, try switching off the motion sensor (behind the passenger seat) and see if that makes any difference. You will need to 'de-activate' each time you leave the vehicle.

Otherwise, as advised at post 74 here:

Yes have tried turning off the motion sensor each time I park and it didn't make a difference, also read your previous link etc.

What I am now trying to understand is if the alarm goes off when the car locks itself. As you know these cars lock themselves if you forget to do so e.g. last night when the alarm went off I unlocked the car with the key I keep at the side of my bed for those moments. I didn't relock it but this morning the car is locked. What I need to understand is if when the car locks itself it 'arms' the alarm. If not I may just leave it to lock itself when I'm at home.

I THINK the alarm is too sensitive to vibration or noise. My neighbour set it off when bouncing a ball once and I've set it off when walking past with a trolley jack. I read the manual to see if I could reduce the sensitivity of the alarm (like you can with house alarms) but you can't.

It is such an irritation and embarrassment.

  3. My Alarm goes off frequently. Been doing it for about 18 months now! Still does if ultrasonic sensor turned off. My car is now out of warranty - dealer couldn't find a problem when it was in warranty.

I'm going to start keeping a log of the times to see if there is a pattern, but I think it's just random. If it was my neighbours car I'd be really annoyed - about 50 people must hear it every time.

  4. Forgot to mention - my new steering lock is now noisy.

Yep every time the lock operates it makes a noise (like zzzzzzzz - appropriate I suppose!). So when I start the car after it was locked or when I open the door to get out it makes a noise - another annoyance!

I need to know if this is normal for the new lock or just mine.

What are your new locks like folks?

Found this, perhaps the noise is normal for the new lock then, the noise I get is right near the end of this video:

  5. Its not the first time we have heard of alarms going off randomly.

Have a search on here to see what the outcomes were (sorry, I don't recall :surrender: ).

Thanks Ebized, I'll look and not Hijack this thread - alarm went off again last light at 1.30 am! Before that it was Wed morning 8.30.

My old 240Z is so simple I have no electronic steering lock or alarm faults :)

  6. Ok, read the other steering column Thread and my recall relates to this one. I've not had a problem but I have had the low key fob battery warning. Replaced battery in fob and it's back again after 2 weeks is this a symptom of the problem?

As you have had the recall letter get that work done and see if the problem persists - but suggest you mention your (separate?) issue when you take it in the recall so they can check it.

Had the lock replaced in Leicester yesterday (Abbey Lane). I asked to speak to a technical guy about the key issue and the fact that my alarm goes off frequently - I was wondering if these things are connected. They were no help whatsoever became very defensive and patronising, wouldn't get a guy and said any other work would be charged for e.g. diagnostic check £83! Needless top say I just said 'forget it'. I hate 'Dealers' I do my own servicing etc but thought it wise to have this lock changed.

Does anyone else have the alarm issue? Mine goes off randomly about once a week, often in the middle of the night - very embarrassing. Previous dealer said they couldn't find a fault.

  7. Has anybody ever had a P3 service on a 370Z. If so what was different than the P2 and did it cost anymore? When you look at the service schedules and see the labour charges it doesn't make sense, outrageous.

I hate having my car serviced (very capable of doing it myself) but whoever buys my car will expect the Nissan Stamp and so it may be false economy.

  8. Sorry Chris, yes it's still in warranty (until Oct).

Realised now that the Leicester Dealer is no longer a Nissan Dealer (Sturgess) so that might be the reason for asking for payment if it's not a warranty issue.

Anyway the other two dealers I emailed have both agreed to look at it, trouble is they are more expensive.

  9. Guys I have a 370Z and the Alarm is too sensitive. It goes off about once a week, sometimes in the night - I now take the key to bed with me (sad I know).

If I run my trolley jack near it (15ft) it sets it off.

Asked the Dealer to investigate and they want authorisation to charge me £48 if it's not faulty!!!!!

Has anyone got this fixed under warranty?

    Rob

  10. Ok guys, that's reassuring in a way. I can relate to all that - especially reversing out of the drive and the cold weather.

Thanks also Abbey MS, geometry is so important especially with these wide rims.

  11. My 370 suffers from front wheel scrubbing on full lock. On full lock the wheel geometry seems wrong - the tyres scrub. The tyre appears to grip for as long as it can and then it gives way and I get a thud as it lets go. I get this on my 240 trackday car with trackday tyres and spacers but this seems wrong on a standard road car.

My 350Z didn't suffer from this. I also get tramlining in the 370 when I cross white lines or joins in tarmac.

    Anybody else get these issues.

I'm thinking of getting the stealer to check wheel aligment, it's just had it's first service (12 mths/3.5k mls)

  12. Does any body know if the basic 18" 370 wheels are an easy fit to a UK (Brembo) 350? After doing a little internet surfing it appears that the offset may be wrong and give brake clearance issues. I think the 370 wheels are more inset than the 350. I realise that the rears are 9" instead of the 350s 8 or 8.5"

Any technical info eg offsets and weight?

  13. I have an 04 basic 350 with cloth seats. I want to swap the seats for some I've bought (same but better condition).

According to a manual (CD) I have I need to disconnect both battery leads and wait 3 mins. Is this really necessary?

Obviously I don't want to trigger any error codes or set the air bags off but I'd rather leave the battery leads on if I can.

  14. My Zeds awesome in the snow.

is a phrase you will never hear. Honestly, what did people expect?

The purpose of this thread was to reinforce that winter tyres DO make a big difference to the very poor snow grip of the 350Z. Hopefully to help people make decisions about tyres and to realise that they are not just for snow.

To answer your point I DID expect it to be better than it is, I have driven MANY RWD cars including my track prepared 240Z and the 350Z is the worst in the wet never mind the snow.
