  1. Might you be considered high risk due to your job? Do you cover very high miles?

Don't want to rub it in but Sky were very good with me when I insured with them last month - I'm 28 (just!), had no NCB in my own name (although 10 years as a named driver which was taken into consideration). My previous car was a 1.8 Almera and before that a 106. When asked if I'd ever driven a Zed before or any other performance car I told them the truth which was only on the Zed's test drive! And they quoted me £850 (excess £350).

Hope you manage to get a better quote,

    S.

I'm a trainee solicitor so I don't think that would constitute high risk. I hardly cover any miles. Less than 10k on average a year.

Are you after business cover on it as well, like class 1 or class 2? What is the postcode you're in (just the first half needed for privacy reasons)?

Nope, just Social Domestic and Pleasure. I'm at HA5.

  2. how many miles are you doing a year? if youve only been driving 4 years and never had a performance car then £1800 in the current climate isn't bad mate, just go for it and once youve done a year and "proven you can handle a 300hp rwd car" there words not mine lol then you will find it drops by qute a bit ;)

Looks like you're right. I might have to bite the bullet. Just spoke to Admiral and they couldn't offer anything cheaper. They then referred me to someone else who wasted 15 minutes of my time and quoted me an insurance figure of £1500 with £3000 excess.

    Bad times :blackeye:

  3. Feck knows............have you got a chick with a reasonable profile? Stick her on as a named driver - usually brings it down a fair bit...........or better still your Ma if you live at the same gaff.

Broke up with my gf a month ago  I knew there was a reason to hold on to the heffer for longer :p (J/k Azzy if you're reading this- I know you're a bit stalker-y) My mum doesn't drive.

Insurance is the most frustrating pile of utter bollox I've ever come accross and the statistical crap they come outh with is verging on insane - for example my insurance is going up this year because I was hit by another person.......apparently that makes me 'statistically more likely to have a crash where I'm at fault'......go figure.

Are you kidding me? Surely you contested that on the basis that, that is a complete load of bull?

  4. It doesn't make much sense.

How long have you been driving?

Any accidents or claims leading up to the start of your 3 years claim free driving? Any points for speeding etc? Annual mileage?

I've been driving for four years- I was on my dad's name in the first year so I didn't amass any NCB. I have no points on my licence and annual mileage is only 8k.

Call Admiral and put your dad on as an occasional driver

I'll definitely give that a try.

Mate don't take this the wrong way but are you sure your not in a 'bad' postcode area? Those quotes are silly for your profile.

Then again insurance has gone through the roof this year.

I live in a relatively quiet area and my dad's insurance is something piddly like £20 a month (if that). I really don't think its a bad postcode area but how do I find out either way?

I really am at a loss :surrender:

  5. Cheers again. Yeah maxi, I went on confused.com and got the following figures (I'm not going to post the ones asking a ludicrous £3k for the excess!):

    Admiral: 1889.37 (£350 excess)

    Elephant: 1898.91 (same excess)

These two are the cheapest I am getting but I just feel its a bit too much considering what others are getting (e.g Husky). I don't get it

Do you guys reckon its worth giving these guys a call?

    Thanks!

  6. You should be easily getting cover for less than £1k with those details with Admiral. Are you in a bad postcode area? Any other details that could be pushing it up? I got my old 350z when I was in my low 20's and cover for the 1st year cost £800 with business milage too.

If you can try it with family members as named drivers, especially female ones with good insurance records (mum, gf, sister). Dont be a named driver on your Dad's insurance, thats not legal AFAIK, but having them as named drivers on your insurance is

Thanks for the super-quick response guys. Its much appreciated.

AFAIK I'm not in a bad postcode area. Sky Insurance did highlight that is was my lack of driving experience with more powerful cars which prevented them from insuring me.

Thanks for the info regarding insuring my dad on my insurance. Hopefully that might lower the figures.

    im surpirsed at admirals quote.

I've just realised it was Privilege nor Admiral

I'll be calling them up now!

  7. Hey guys,

I doubt you guys remember me, I did lurk around here a few years ago hoping to get a 350z. Well, after seriously being torn between a Supra TT and a 350z I've finally decided to go for the latter. The thing is, whilst I'm ready to buy a Z, I cannot seem to find a decent quote at all! I was hoping you guys might have some helpful advice. Just a few details:

I'm 26, with 3 years NCB (no accidents at all), no convictions and am getting quotes that are around the £2000 mark.

Sky Insurance (who I have been with before) won't insure me on the basis that my current car is a 1.4L Polo and the transition to a RWD 280+bhp is quite steep (which it is) and I haven't got the requisite driving experience which is raising alarm bells on their end.

    Admiral came back with £2k.

I've been scouring these forums and have come across some posts of < 20 year olds getting insured for less so I'm trying to remain hopeful that I can get a decent quote.

Some of my friends have suggested being named as a second driver on my dad's insurance but I'm oblivious as to the legality of it all (even if he drives the car as much as me).

Any help on the matter would be really appreciated :)

    Cheers

  8. That Mk1 is amazing Luke! 4WD conversion??! HOW?!

That is a classic and definately worthy of all the accolades it achieved.

I love the black and white pictures lol. Adds a sense of history to it all.

That is a true sleeper. I would cry if I saw sold that :byebye: So don't!

  9. Ah nice Mk1 Andy- Ronal Turbos ftw! Sorry to hear about what happened to it though :(

Here's a few of mine and some pics I took of gorgeous rides at the Westside Show n Shine last year:

  10. Ah Edition38 lol. Yeah you'd be mental to post a jap car on there especially if you've got a bodykit on etc

Edition38 is a haven for us- the central hub for all dubs so obviously you're going to get die-hard V-dubbers having a go at you. I guess the VW crowd is very narrow-minded at times- sorry to hear what you went through lol.

Any chance of you posting the link to that thread :ninja:

if you aint rubbin' you aint dubbin' '

Aint that the truth! I'm rubbing too much though :p (even if it is a wee little polo)

  11. Dunno if you guys are aware of the Dub scene (VAG cars- VW, Audi, Seat etc) but the following is huge globally and the Euro look (less is more) is king. Here's a video from the States of some Dubs. What do you guys think?

Also, a video of Worthersee for the annual VW gathering (heaven for us Dub boys :p)

  12. Well, you could go one better and get that hydraulic lift system from KW, yeah it's over 2K, but then you'll never bottom out again

Doesn't that compromise on the Z's handling though BM? I mean it sounds similar to an air-ride system and you don't really want bags to replace the coilies. I dunno what the system is like though.
