Having just read this, i find myself nodding with a slightly embarassed expression on my face. Had my Z nearly 5 happy years, in which time, along no doubt with everyone else here, the fun is slowly being sucked out of it. Thanks in the main to spiralling fuel costs, ridiculous road fund tax costs and insurance costs, that for a 50 year old geezer not allowed to ride a bike anymore cos of err indoors, seem unrepresentative of drivers in my age group. that aside i got 26k out of the original Bridgestones RE050s. Noisy, hard, slightly twitchy when giving it the beans round the countryside, but clearly married to the Z. I replaced these all in one go with Falken 452's. What a difference. Quite, softer ride, but still assured, great grip in the dry and wet and you were still able to feel every corner. The downside of course is the wear factor, only 20k and that included 18 months of very sensible driving!! Just before christmas, i was due an MOT. I was informed my rear tyres were a fail. I had to make a choice, sadly based on economics. I made the call, effectivly telling the garage to stick the cheapest tyres they could find on the back to pass it! Along with a new mid pipe and bits and pieces I found myself coughing up £500, now whatever your financial situation is, spending that sort of money just before christmas is a bit of a downer. But nothing compared to the misery of a Z with nearly done 452's on the front an Nexen's, yes thats right Nexen's on the back. Scarey is all i can say, Dual carraigeway 70ish mph, a slight bend in the road, the sort where you barely touch the wheel then pow! the dash lights up the nearside rear gets the full ESP treatment. these tyres follow the ruts in the road to the point where i was making quite massive corrections to stay in a straight line. This plus the constant misery of unexpected TC activations has led me to where i am now. Driving My Z like a car and not like a Z. Come May I will once again shell out for 4 new 452's. There's really not much point owning a Z and spending your hard earned on it, if you have to drive it like a Micra! So lesson learnt. Dont mix especially good with bad obvious as it may sound. you would do better keeping it off the road until you can afford the right stuff!
Bang on Dan I have suffered that misery.
