  1. I have had a reply from www.kph-mph.co.uk and they have told me that the converter unit is installed behind the speedo / rev counter cluster so I'll have to remove that to get access. The problem I'm having is a 'dancing needle' as the experts call it!!!! Basically the needle goes mental and starts jumping around and it looks like the convertor unit may be the culprit. The above company offer a de-restrictor and speedo convertor unit for £89 + VAT. I already have an HKS SLD Speed defencer fitted which cost over £200 new, so it looks like I'll buy the new unit and remove the HKS SLD. That will be going on ebay as soon as I fit the new unit!!!!
  2. Hi Folks, Just wondering if anybody knows the location of the KPH - MPH speedo convertor unit? I have a JDM Zed with one fitted but my analogue and digital speedos show erratic speeds up on hot days, and I'm trying to find the fault. I know there is a speed sensor signal that comes from the Unified A/C amp and goes to the Speedo cluster, but I have no idea where the actual converter unit is wired in. Cheers
  3. I've got a video interface and DVB-T TV tuner for sale on ebay if anyone is interested in modding their original Sat Nav or at least giving the JDM Sat Nav some sort of life. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :MESELX:IT The PAC VCI-X can be wired into the loom going to the sat nav display and it can be connected to a TV Tuner, DVD player, reversing camera etc. It cost a fortune from the states and there doesn't seem to be anything like it on the UK market for Video integration. Please note that this is for Video signals only. If your TV Tuner or DVD player has an Audio outpot then you will need an AUX input on your stereo to pick up sound. It worked in my Zed but I upgraded to a car PC which does it all. I've had a few posts on the forum relating to it if you're unsure about what I'm talking about. Any questions then drop me a line.
  4. Got a video interface and DVB tuner for sale on ebay if anyone is interested in doing something with their SAT NAV. Check it out. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :MESELX:IT
  5. Yeah, I am using it every day and quite chuffed with the whole package. I have a few small niggles which I am in the process of sorting out namely; The NavMii software keeps changing the ID code which is a pain. The support assure me that this is unique which is a real shame as it is a cracking Sat Nav software The boot time is still about 40sec and can be longer if the IPOD is fitted. Best way around it is to store the tunes on the Hard drive. Blue tooth phone works a treat but I have to switch the stereo to AUX1 to hear the calls. The TV tuner dongle was only a cheap one and I have absolutely no reception, so that will need further investigation. Other than that, the Centrafuse front end software is great, the touch screen makes it so much easier to use and finally I have got a system that is not in japanese. Another point that is good is that the parking cameras (two wing mounted and one rear) operate automatically due to the video input to the touch screen.........I had to flick a switch previously. I am happy with it, but it is a very expensive project to take on and there is a lot of fu*k factors involved!!!!!! Go on, take the plunge!!!
  6. Yeh, it's a strange one. I'm not aware of any hardware issues. I can enter the key for the GBR map and it can run for a day. Start the car the next day and the Device ID has defaulted to 1234567890QWERTY............I can then leave it and a couple of days later, it will revert back to the original ID. I hadn't considered any hardware issues, but the Device ID that it reverts back to doesn't seem very random.......1234567890QWERTY . As I said, I have asked Navmii support for help and they have not come across it before. They have given me a key for the 12345......device ID, but once that is entered, it reverts back to the original ID!!!!!! Bloody Nuisance!!!!! Seems to be quite a slick sat nav program though. Have you had any issues with Centrafuse with regards to album track names and album art when played in the Media Player? I can't get any album, track or artist info at all and the Ipod inf doesn't come through at all.
  7. Aye just about there Chris'I, been having a few problems with the Navmii though, it seems to change the device ID every now and again which de-activates the maps. Been in touch with the support folk and they don't know what's going on!!!!! Looks like I'll need to look for another Sat Nav application. Any suggestions anyone?
  8. Well that's the control panel finally complete and I'm happy with it now. The switches on the original panel were getting in the way of the navigation buttons on the Centrafuse display. Just for info, the red button on the left operates a relay which cuts the voltage to the Carnetix power regulator in case a 'Hard Reset' is required. The black button on the left is connected to the ACPI connection on the PC which gives it a reboot (like pressing the button on the front of a desktop PC)
  9. lots of it is common sense with the zed interior, most of the parts overlap so its a case of start at the top and work your way down. As Husky said, lots of common sense. If a panel ain't budging then go easy. I've had to replace quite a few through my errors but now I can practically take the interior apart blind folded!!!!!
  10. No bother at all. Here to help. The forum has been a real help and Chris & Nurrish have been good at pointing me in the right direction. It's always good to see another persons install too to get some ideas.
  11. Cheers Nurrish. It was all helped by the way thet PC technology has come opn leaps and bounds........no need to rip apart old laptops, displays etc and try and integrate them into a working CarPC. Anyway, at least the old Japanese Sat Nav is finally been sent to the big scrappy in the sky!!!!
  12. Well that's it pretty much finished and tested. Just got a blanking plate to cover the void where the old navi unit was. I've also got an issue with the Navmii software in that I cannot activate the maps. I'm also going to change the control panel as I'm not happy with the switch layout as it gets in the way of the centrafuse navigation buttons. I've also attached a pic of the NDSII diagnostics software which uses a BlaZt cable. Quite smart as it also has a data log function. Will post pics of the new control panel once I have it finished.
  13. Well you'll not have to worry about that withe the new Zed!!!!
  14. You checked to see if the COM port has changed?
  15. Yeh, I had thought about that chris but I had an IPAQ with a GPS receiver for Tom Tom a few years ago and I already had the metal plate for the magnet and the small hole cut in the top of the dash. If I hadn't had that then I would have gone for the rear strut brace. Just installed the memory and have been playing about with the set up this afternoon. A few niggles but getting through them one at a time. Soon it will be complete.
  16. Well that's the DVD re writer installed in the small cubby. Just waiting for the friggin memory to arrive so I can get the thing running!!!!!
  17. More pictures!!! You cannay have too many pictures.
  18. Not cheap!!! But it's been a labour of love!!!! Check out LinITX.com for parts. 19. Cheers, will try Hibernate when I connect up the PC as I'm still waiting for a bigger memory stick. Carnetix Power regulator now installed where the NAVI unit used to be and all cables are run and loomed in so I hope I've not forgotten anything as the interior is re assembled!!!! Just waiting for the memory to arrive so I can get the PC mounted in the glove box and give it a go.
  20. Ok, things are progressing. I received a cubby blanking plate from JAS (Japanese Auto Solutions) A great company for sourcing NISSAN parts which are hard to find. Since I was needing to remove the NAVI control panel, I had to replace it with a blanking plate which needed to be modified for the screen menu / brightness controls, a PC reset button and I also have a switch hooked up to a power relay so thet I can switch off the main power if the PC crashes without having to disconnect the battery. Since it was not designed to be a panel, filed down any protrusions and filled in any holes and gaps with Araldite. I then gave it a couple of coats of Satin black before mounting the controls and switches. It looks okay and I am pretty pleased with it. Next is to mount the Carnetix power supply where the old navi unit was. Make up a LOOM for the power and controls Run in USB, GPS and Touch screen cables. Then the final part will be fitting the PC into the Glove box at the back of the passenger seat and also to mount the DVD ROM in the cubby next to the old NAVI unit.
  21. Pretty heavy duty then.................don't think I'll go down that route then!!!!! Heres some more pics of the CF 3 and one of the carnetix PSU being bench tested.
  22. CF 3 or CF Auto is what I have installed and it looks pretty smart. I am new to all this and seem to have picked it up okay with a few pointers from Chris' I I have managed to modify the boot screens to display the NISSAN logo (thanks Nurrish!!) but still get the small 'Windows is starting' and 'Windows is shutting down' messages which is a slight pain but a minor niggle. Nurrish, what do you mean by a cut down version of XP? I have disabled all the Boot / start up applications in msconfig and got the boot time down to 32 sec...........bloody slow in comparison though!!!
  23. Not sure if I've seen you about either srobrien. Has your Zed any distinguishing features? I'm driving a blue Zed with full Vertex Aero kit and GT4 wheels. My profile pic is an old one. The Voom box or VoomPC is just the type of case which looks like an amp. My plan is to mount it in the cubby behind the passenger seat so that I have full access to it. I've attached the link. I bought the pc from an ebay seller who makes these things up. He basically throws all the components together then it's down to you to make it work. Looking at it all now, I could probably have saved a few quid if I bought the components individually, but the guy made sure it was all compatible before selling it to me. It also has a Solid State Drive for faster booting which I upgraded. It originally came with linux but I couldn't get used to the operation of it, so I created a partition on the SDD and installed XP so it is now a dual boot system. XP has the priority and I never see the Linux at all. http://linitx.com/viewproduct.php?prodid=10858 http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/nextgenca ... ec0Q2em322
  24. I'm in the process of installing a PC in my Zed and I thought I'd share my experiences with you on the way. I've got a '03 JDM and have already changed the nav to UK spec, upgraded the HU to a double DIN with IPOD and Bluetooth and I've installed a 10" woofer with amp. The car came with a JDM OEM camera system (2 front wing mounted and 1 rear mounted) which has been a bit of a bugger to interface with the nav system. After a lot of fiddling and trial and error I managed to integrate it and I also added a DVB-TV tuner along the way. Now that technology has moved on, there are a lot more pruducts on the market designed to make a car Pc install alot more easier so I have waited long enough and am now taking the plunge. It should be a doddle as I have had the interior stripped down more times than the dancers in Bugsy Browns (Aberdeen members will understand!!!!) Anyway, I have all the hardware and software and I'm just taking my time. I bought a VOOM box pentium based PC, transflective 7" touchscreen, carnetics 1900 dual power supply and various dongles/tuners etc which I'll go into later. When I got the UK spec nav from an X-trail, it came with a display also so I have used the frame of the display to transplant the transflective array into. Check the pics below. This means there is no bother with modifying or cutting bits off the cubby / trim as I would like to be able to return the car to OEM nav when I sell it. It is actually quite a neat unit. I've carried out bench testing of all the gear and installed all the various applications and drivers. I installed the Centrafuse Auto graphic interface which I'm spending a bit of time customising before I install it. Anyway, that's as far as I have got so I'll keep the forum up to date with my progress but haven't got any timescale yet.
  25. Yeh, I have heard that which is why it is important to slow down and switch the thing off if detected. I really don't even know if it works but it's main purpose for me is the parking sensor which it does a good job of.
