  1. Ive got the RE050As also and ive got 10.5k so far, down to 3-4 mm across the back, excluding that stupid half depth outer ring, and 4-5 mm on the front again excluding that half depth outer ring.

Tbh the rules say its 3/4 of the tread, so i think its ok to exclude the outer ring. As for them wearing quicker on the outsides, yh they do but you also need to remember that the most outer groove starts off at a lower depth than the rest of the tread, and it also has no markers on it to give an indication of depth remaining for the outer most groove.

Over the summer it wont matter too much, its only the standing water that screws you if you dont have enough tread you will aquaplane, but on a nice dry day there are no issues with shallow tread, as long as they are legal ofc.

  2. Quick question, what is the difference between the the ADZ and normal bridgestones? Ive still got the stock RE050s on from factory but need to replace them soon, also if the falkens produce less noise, presumably this is due to lower rolling resistance and therefore they dont work the surface as much and produce less grip and heat?

  3. Sounds like its a bad earth issue. Have you spliced in an additional ground to power the main unit? As the 350z factory loom has no earth in it as it earths through the casing of the stereo. I think the best place to earth it is on the piece of metal to the right of the stereo. Im not sure about the black and white cable, cant remember if i did anything with it in the end.

  4. Fairly easy to do imo, just make sure you have all the parts you need to do the job and pick the HU you like. When i did mine, i went for the ICT adapter as it allows me to keep the steering wheel controls. The worse bit of it all is trying to fit all the wires back in and in my case, pulling it out several times as the adapter turned out to be faulty :(

Most head units now will do the ipod connection, you just need to get one with a decent bluetooth either built in or available to add on as the factory bluetooth wont work if you replace the head unit. Ive always been a fan of the alpine, but it all comes down to personal preference.

  5. Private sale, it was new but technically used, as in it had never been fitted and used, but had been taken out of the box to test. I just happened to stumble across it on Ebay, and had seen another on the talk audio forums, going for a little more.

  6. Ive gotta agree with you on that one Rob, ive always been a fan of Alpine. Ive got the W505 sitting around waiting to be fitted atm, just waiting for the BT to arrive, altho i had planned to do all this several months ago!

Jim, where have you looked at for the alpine? I didn't pay a huge amount for mine altho it was an ebay purchase. I think it was £400 brand new. You could also try the W202 which is a slightly cheaper version of the W502 graphics just dont look as good, but it still does Ipod and pretty much anything else you could want. Alpines are always a bit pricey tho when compared to some most of the other makes.

  7. Im looking at doing the 29th Nov Full day at Bedford if anyone else fancies joining me, its novice only so anyone that has not done track driving before is welcome, but if you have done quite a few track sessions, then you wont be allowed out.

  8. Going back to the sat nav, does anyone know if its possible to fit an aftermarket headunit and retain the voice guidence from the birdview? Im sure there must be a way round it, will start messing about with it when my Zed arrives if no one else has any suggestions. :p
