Hopefully will be reunited with my Zed tomorrow!

Just having a bit of a rant!

Owned my Zed for just over 6 weeks and it's been back with the garge for pretty much the last 3 weeks whilst they've been sorting some bits which should have been done before purchase. Grrr! First was wheel bearings then was back in for a suspect gear box bearing which has turned out to be a clutch plate issue

Anyhoo, I'm hoping that I'll be reunited with my beloved Zed tomorrow. Else they'll meet Angry Squee which will not be nice for them!

Sorry to hear you have had your zed in and out of the garage, lets hope they do a proper job this time and sort everything out. You should ask for an extended warranty! Did you ever get that split sorted on your bonnet?

Thanks matey! I've been waiting 'til the garage had sorted out the car mechanically before taking him to the bodyshop - was definitely gonna update my thread on the bonnet spilt once I'd made progress on that front as I know there's nothing worse than a thread without a resolution!

It looks like the previous owner had a dint in the bonnet filled and it's this filler, perhaps not done very well, which has caused the spilt/scratch somehow. I'm definintely going to get a bonnet re-spray but as said above waiting 'til the garage had finished with it first.

To be fair on the garage they do seem good sorting my various problems out it's just they've really taken their time doing so.

One good thing that's come of all this is that I'm stupidly excited about collecting the Zed - just as much if not more so than I did before collecting for the first time! :yahoo:

Lol Bronzee - what a nice saying hehehe. Just found out that I can't get my Zed 'til Wednesday now. Found out I've been bullshitted a bit from the sales side of the garage and they've deliberately delayed working on my car but if the only thing wrong in your life is having to wait an extra few days to collect a beautiful 350, in full working order, then life can't be bad I guess!

What have they been doing with it for the last 3-4 weeks just looking at it, a bit of a joke really thats its still not done! I'd personally be really pi**ed off with them right now especially as you say they should have been done before you bought it.

They've been fannying about waiting to see if the warranty insurance will pay out - I can see why they're wanting to make sure they can recoup some costs but just wish they were more honest with me as regards to the time scale involved as I've had to cancel and re-arrange quite a few plans over the last few weekends due to being Zed-less.

I'm probs sounding like a spoilt brat ( :dummy: ) just need a bit of a rant! Will definitely be worth the wait though!

Still not got my Zed back!

I can't figure out what the garage are playing at - they say that they've put a new clutch plate in but have decided that there's definintely a gear box bearing problem after all.

I'd have thought that a clutch would be considered a wear and tear item for warranty purposes so I'm getting a 'freebie' that perhaps I shouldn't of....it's all pickling my head now lol.

And the tax runs out on the courtesy car today (think they've forgotten about that!).

Herein finishes today's rant!

Whats their excuse this time!!? For the amount of work they have to do they sure are dragging out fixing it!! Make sure you get all te receipts for the parts they have fitted, for fitment and part guarantee purposes.

they're blaming the warranty people for taking ages to authorise the work to be done - and also blaming the gear box specialists (who they have to send the gear box off to).

Alledgedly the onsite mechanics identified it as a gear box bearing (as had my local mechanic who looked over the car for me), and Nissan confirmed it was a gearbox bearing problem but the gearbox people insisted it wasn't. But now, a new clutch plate later(?), the gearbox bloke's changed his mind!

At the end of the day I've got a new clutch which it sounds like I wouldn't necessarily have done so can't complain too much.

Although the work will be finished next week I've decided to bring my Zed home for the weekend as I was getting severe withdrawl symptoms and also would rather him be with me rather than tarting up their showroom! I've just got back from the garage now and the noise which was causing all of this bother has been vastly improved quite intermittent rather than a constant.

But yeah, will get copies of invoices of all labour and parts carried out

Thanks Steve for listening to my endless complaints ;)

No worries mate  As long as the work gets sorted and done properly then thats all that matters. Sounds like you have a good deal with the new clutch, as these are quite expensive to replace, if i remember right my Clutch and Flywheel cost me around £800 fitted, which was cheap compared to the price from Nissan, which was a massive £1800 :scare: ZMANALEX sorted me out with the parts in the end.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just thougt I'd post an update....

The garage I bought my Zed from kindly arranged for me to go and see Paul Stewart at Middlehurst Nissan so he could give a diagnosis on the apparent 'gearbox bearing' problem.

The good news is that he does not think it's due to a bearing. He strongly suspects that changing the engine mounts and/or transmission mounts will solve the problem although couldn't guarantee it. Even he was slightly puzzled by the noise but doesn't think it's anything to worry about too much as it's just an amplified version of what noise one would expect to be present when driving at low revs.

I'm pretty certain that the garage I bought the Zed from aren't gonna change the mounts under warranty but thankfully it shouldn't be an expensive thing to pay out for.

Sorry to hear about your problems, hope the new engine mounts sort out the problem.

If I were you I'd be pushing for the garage to pay, from you first post you mentioned that these issues should have been sorted out before purchase, so if you had an agreement when buying the car that they'd be sorted out, the bill stops with them. I know you mentioned the mounts aren't too expensive but if that doesn't sort it (you stated there is no guarentee) I'd imagine it would be much harder to go back to the purchase garage to get them to sort the problem, as you've effectively set a precident by paying out yourself and taken ownership of the problem. Just my thoughts but why pick up a bill for something when the agreement stated it should have been fixed?

A further thought is why were the garage waiting to see if the 3rd party warrenty covers repairs or not, if the garage agreed on purchase to fix the issue, they should pay themselves if they can't claim on warrenty. An example is when I bought my Zed the rear tyres were close to there limit, although the warrenty they gave me doesn't cover tyres I bought the Z on condition they replaced them, which they rightly did and absorbed the costs for.

Hey, what were the original symptoms or noise that started you off on this saga? I'm trying to figure out if my new Z is making an abnormal noise from the clutch or gearbox but I've read different things on the forums that they make all sorts of wierd noise and its normal :headhurt: Cheers.

Sorry to hear you're having issues with your new Zed (and sorry for the late reply!) R-Face.

The noises, which two separate mechanics wondered if were pointing to a gearbox bearing issue but was ruled out by Middlehurst Nissan, was a kinda metallic chattering noise at low revs. Another forum member wondered if it might have been a flywheel issue and the symptoms do read similar to other threads but my car's recently had a new clutch so I don't think it's that and I also think that the chap from Middlehurst would have picked up on it.

Since a gearbox specialist removed the gearbox and re-installed it (without changing a bearing) the noise has been dramatically reduced and only now occurs in low revs in 5/6th gear

Have you got it sorted yet? Might you be able to upload an Iphone clip of the noise or something? It can be quite hard describing sounds and rattles on the 'tinternet and you'll probably get better help with an audio clip

Thanks also SpiderMonk for your reply. Yes it's been quite annoying all the problems and at one stage I was pretty pi**ed off at the garage I purchased from but I'm just gonna stop worrying about the noise and concentrate on enjoying the Zed as that's pretty much what the guy at Middlehurst said to do and I trust his judgement. My dad's the sort who doesn't really accept a crap service and he thinks the garage have been quite fair to me.

Glad to hear the noise has dramatically reduced

I'm new to the Z club as well, only owning mine for 3 weeks and I think your spot on about enjoying your purchase, it's a wonderful car. From an extremely novice perspective I've read a lot of posts about odd noises the Z makes, I know mine makes the odd ratlte when I depress the clutch in neutral and it may well make it in 5th or 6th at low rev's, in truth I'm too busy enjoying the ride to listen to anything bar it's exhaust note, even though it's stock it still sounds amazing.

Also your car having a new clutch is a huge advantage, mines just clocked over 40k and I'm still on the original, so I know I have that bill coming soon, but I'm not going to worry about it until it starts slipping
