OEM style head units?

Hi

 

I'm new to the site, having just bought a 2003 350Z GT last week The site has been really useful, especially regarding ICE as I already want to replace my Bose head unit after a few days!

 

My only requirement, is to be able to play mp3's from CD. So my question is can anyone recommend a decent looking head unit that looks reasonably OEM and in keeping with the Z's orange dash illumination rather than obviously 'aftermarket'. I guess a reasonable conservative looking double din with orange illumination wouldnt look out of place?

 

Always been pleased with Kenwood stuff, so this one caught my eye (I assume it will do orange display too)

IIRC, that unit only does red and blue illumination. but spend a bit more and get a full satnav and DVD unit. going for about 400 on ebay.

 

they occasionally come up on here as well!

There's a pic here of it displaying in orange, which doesnt look too bad. I think the model below (the DPX-303U) doesn't do all the colours though.

had a dnx bt5220 before. wicked unit! got it for a bargain price too.

That unit comes with a remote control and therefore no remote interface so if you have steering wheel controls they wont work.

Did that ever take off?? I had an mp3 player in my last car.....never used it tho!

Most new cars with CD players now play CD's with MP3's on them. My Z4 and the Swift does.

cheers guys, yes I find leaving a few pence worth of copied CDRs in the car a good compromise between leaving the ipod or CD collection in the car.
