Oh dear, wait till Val sees that...... :D

He was quizzing the guy from Sumo about Carbon bonnets. And bought a Zed car porn mag (some modding catalogue from Japan) to look....

How much was it Tim at the show?

Would there be any insurance issues in changing to CF bonnet - other than declaring it of course. Is any structural reliance placed on the bonnet during a frontal impact - since the way CF shatters might affect that if so.

I tell mine everything :scare: Wheel type, exhaust, S/C components etc

You'd be fooked if you had an incident and the CF bonnet was involved and you'd not mentioned it IMO

[bTW mine comes in about £680/year]

mine comes in at bugger all :p (traders policy ) only drawback if it gets totalled I only get bare minimum price , not too bad though as I gave bare minimum for it

I always thought the bonnet was purely to stop things pinging out at people - remember the ad years ago for oil (might have been castrol) where they used a (iirc) Cossie with a see through bonnet, I thought they didnt' actually want to use a bonnet at all but cos it was going on road it had to have something.

I would doubt that theres much if anything structural in the bonnet tbh.

I think Dorian is probably correct , in the crash test they perform the original bonnet must act as a crumple zone issue, but as far as I am aware caron fibre would probably be stiffer than the original steel bonnet ! whether this is a good thing or not remains to be seen !!

Dorian,

Who do you use? Obviously with me starting to mod it now, I'm going to have to decide what I do here. Just wondering if I'm with someone and then say I've done this, as to whether they will stop it etc, or it jumps for certain things.

Which company you with? I'm wondering who are mod friendly?

So did you find that when for example you put a different set of wheels on or exhaust, that you premium kept going up and up each time you tell them something?

I can't answer what I think you mean by that question because I didn't do mine piecemeal. You describe the mods you have to them, the Monkey says I'll have to check with an underwriter on this one and then a few mins later, he's back on the line with the quote.

Mike I have your Autosol....

that bonnet looks good!

issues on it can be:

removal of strut bar for fitment

not great fitment overall.

I'm actually veering away from a CF bonnet idea, and more towards a different bonnet but colourcoded :) long term stuff though anyway, no meny now that I got kev's suspension :ninja::teeth:

Just picked up on this post.

I had the Seibon TSII CF Bonnet (which they unfortunately no longer produce). As Val says, the only issue I had was with fitment (had to remove the strut brace). Though that is the reason they stopped making it I believe so you shouldn'nt have any probs with any others.

Insurance wise it shouldn't make a difference if you already have other bodykit parts declared. I was with Norwich Union and they just put them all down under the term 'bodykit'. It did affect the premium at first but only because apparently it makes it more appealing to chavvy thieves. Every subsequent part just went under the same umbrella.
