  1. yeah, I seem to be rapidly forgetting the issues the more I seem to drive it. Just a couple of weeks without a problem, thats all I ask for...!
  2. Well, after buying the Zed on the 9th April, I have finally enjoyed two consecutive days of actually driving the car. To recap briefly on my Zed ownership experience so far - it goes a little something like this... Buy the car, return it to the garage the next day to get the crunchy gear change fixed. Break my wrist three days later, car comes back from the garage three weeks later and sits on the drive for two weeks. Get frustrated of that and go for a drive with the other half driving, breaks down in Milton Keynes (complete power loss and engine stall). Back it goes to the garage on a flat bed. Get it back two days later with the view that there is nothing wrong with it. Sits on the drive for another two weeks as my wrist heals. Wrist comes out of plaster. Go for my first drive in the Zed. Breaks down ten minutes from home (complete power loss and engine stall). Call the RAC out and gently drive it back to the dealers. Three weeks later, I get the car back, fixed (for now). Turns out the MAF sensor was the root of the problem and has been replaced. All done free and to be fair the sales dept of Camden Nissan Northampton have been good in their approach. The service department may not see my business going forward. On the plus side i did get to drive a micra and a qashqai , and save a fair amount of money on petrol (can use that to justify the new exhaust system). Hard to think that the Evo has been my most reliable car so far...
  3. yeah, i am coming to the same conclusion on this - due to the broken wrist and being Spain it hasn't been driven since coming back home over a week ago, hence a little bit of lethargy on this. I will be having a word with the service manager (at Camden Nissan) shortly to get this sorted. It doesnt exactly inspire confidence in the car and their approach to getting this sorted. A diagnostics check definitely needs to be done to ensure i am not left with the same problem again, and done for free. Given the fact that I havent driven it much in the past 4 weeks and it has been sat on a forecourt for the some weeks before that, it could be a battery problem, but probably shouldnt be up to me to diagnose should it? will keep you all posted and again thanks for comments. anyone know any good independent dealers Northampton way, or am I off to Marshalls in Cambridge?
  4. Well, the car is back with me. Got a phone call from the dealers this afternoon asking me what the problem was. They had actually driven it from the sales showroom to the service department, so whatever that was stopping it from starting, was no longer stopping it. They didnt run any kind of diagnostic check, so for the time being I am gonna put it down to the reasons discussed above. Back on the drive now for another couple of weeks now, until the wrist repairs, and then lets hope for at least a couple of weeks of stress free driving thanks again for help - v.useful chris
  5. thanks all for the contributions - much appreciated. have a bizarre feeling that i am going to know more about how to fix this than the dealers. Didnt get looked at today, so may give them a call tomorrow in advance of them getting on with it. Seems to be a half hour job at best so if they start being wiseguys, i should be able to hold my own. Am still hoping that the dealers will cover all expense off for me, but will see. cheers chris
  6. thanks big phil, supports something else i have read on this and your word seems like the law round here . The post I read indicated it could be something about wrong revs while changing gear or coming off the gas too quickly while at high revs. Just a question of an ECU reset to clear the fault or are we looking at having to replace the sensor? Its a good job the shops were shut this afternoon, otherwise I would be working through some recently purchased cyanide pills...
  7. Well, the 4 weeks of zed ownership are not going well so far. Had the car for a day before it got returned to the dealers for two weeks to get the crunchy 5th-6th gear change sorted. Broke my wrist in the mean time, so havent driven it since its been back. I couldnt bear it just sitting on the drive, so went out in it today with the other half driving. All absolutely fine till we tried to outpace an RS4 from a stationary start (not a good idea!). There was a fairly immediate power loss during this process (limp home mode I am guessing), we got about another 200m, before the engine then cut out. We tried to start it again, turned over briefly before dying. Not a happy man. On the back of a flat bed and returned to the dealers. Doesnt seem to be a lot of insight into this on the forum. Am guessing that either through our driving (from what I have read this is a possibility) or through some issue with the car, we have got the ECU to drop into a safe mode and not come out of it. Am hoping that as soon as the technicians run a diagnostics check, all should become clear. Having only driven 40 miles (10 myself) since having the car, am hoping that should be resolved without expense, but beyond waiting for the systems check, anyone have any thoughts on this?
  8. Well, the car is back and the car is fixed, so well done Camden Nissan for that. Havent got the gritty detail on the problem (they outsource the gearbox fixing to a specialist company), so dont know if it was the syncro ring or not, but will find out. 6 weeks of staring at it on the drive now. Not sure whether to laugh or cry!
  9. Aah the RS4...it promised so much but after the Evo it just didnt put a smile on your face like the Evo and how the Zed will. Proper Q car and pulled like a steam train, but its always nice to look back at your car and think 'oh yeah...thats mine' - just didnt get that with the audi. oh, and with 85k on the clock, I was just waiting for something expensive to happen...and it would have done. got destroyed on px as well. Wrist was done playing footy, trying to avoid my keeper. got out of his way, but landed full weight on my wrist. snapped my wrist, broke the joint and quite nicely displaced. reset twice then reset again and pinned in an op last week. not to be recommended. photos will be up once its returned, and already toying with the idea of getting the V6 making a bit more noise. chris
  10. Alright all, Have recently joined the ranks of 350z owners, and am well pleased with the purchase...for the 24 hours that I have been able to drive it. After going through a clio 172 cup, an Evo VIII fq-300 and an RS4 Avant (a biiiig mistake in hindsight that one) over the past couple of years, i now have a 54 rust GT. Anyway, had the car for 24 hours before it got returned to the dealers to get the crunchy 5th-6th gearchange sorted. Should be getting back on friday, fixed and with a free bluetooth module chucked, so fair play to camden nissan for that. So two weeks without the car...just about about bearable. Unfortunately, the car is going to be consigned to the driveway for at least the next 5 weeks thanks to a recently broken wrist. I may just have to sit in it and rev the engine a couple of times, although that could just make things worse! still a couple of months on, I will be able to look back on this and laugh eh?
