  1. So glad I found this thread! Just removed a couple of litres of water from passenger footwell. Seems the trigger for this issue was moving house - my old drive was sloped up from the house, new drive slopes down, so when I reverse on, the back is higher than the front. Just need to get the lights off!

  2. Sorry to resurrect a done and dusted thread, but it seemed like the right place to ask...

I've just replaced by gearbox and diff oils with oils recommended by Opie (Fuchs TITAN GEAR SYN for gearbox and Silkolene BOA 80W-90 for diff). I did ask about the GL4/GL5 thing with the gearbox oil and apparently the things in GL5 additives which used to corrode the yellow metals aren't used any more so I was told it was absolutely fine for the 350Z.

Anyway, since the change, when cold, first and second gear are really difficult to get into, second sometimes being virtually inaccessible, and the diff has developed a whine. It could be coming from the gearbox, but it eases when cornering so the diff seemed a more likely candidate.

Both are fine when warmed up a bit, but I never had either problem before. The oil that came out of the gearbox and diff were both pretty clean and there were no filings in the diff oil or round the plug. Do oils take time to 'bed in' or have I simply been lied to about the oils I needed?!

    Cheers.

  3. maybe i should go with a 30 profile insteaad of 35, so it will be a bit smaler ? should get to same size as the front tire then?

Rear tyres need to be taller than the fronts. Something to do with the traction control. Apparently it'll keep kicking in at random if they're all the same height!

  4. Hi all, we're currently running a competition I thought would be of interest. You have a chance to win one of five pairs of public day tickets to the Autosport International show at the NEC, Birmingham in January, saving yourself up to £60. Full details on MSportUK.com

Five Pairs of Tickets to Autosport International 2011 to be Won

The world’s greatest motorsport show, Autosport International, will kick off the 2011 motorsport season on 13-16 January 2011, with a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the exciting and glamorous world of motorsport. Better still, we're giving the chance for you to be there for free with five pairs of tickets up for grabs in the remarkably simple competition below!

An astounding collection of features, incorporating cars from Formula One to grass roots racing, will give show visitors an insight into this exhilarating industry. Interactive elements, such as the latest in race simulator technology and the Caterham Driving Experience, will provide a hands-on taster for show goers, while the Fifth Gear Live Action Arena is set to be a spectacle of daring stunts and extreme wheel-to-wheel racing.

A host of motorsport stars, including legendary commentator Murray Walker and BBC F1 presenters Martin Brundle and Jake Humphrey will make appearances on the Autosport Stage. Also confirmed for Autosport International 2011 are multiple 24 Hour of Le Mans winners Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish, F1 test driver Gary Paffett, as well as touring car aces Andy Priaulx and Rob Huff, plus many more!

As well as the Autosport Stage, guests of the show will also feature in the Fifth Gear Live Action Arena, which is hosted throughout the weekend by 2010 British Touring Car Champion and Fifth Gear TV presenter Jason Plato, alongside motoring personality Tiff Needell. The Fifth Gear Live Action Arena will be packed with daredevil stunts and high-octane action from a variety of series and disciplines, including rally, Autograss, BriSCA F1 Stock Cars, European and British Rallycross, and National Hot Rods.

Among the incredible cars on display will be the iconic McLaren MP4/4, driven by racing hero Ayrton Senna to F1 World Championship victory in 1988. The MP 4/4, the most successful car in F1 history, headlines a stunning McLaren Racing feature that also includes the much-anticipated new road car, the MP4-12C.

Show goers will also get the chance to experience the thrill of the action for themselves at the Caterham Driving Experience, where professional drivers will weave, power slide and doughnut their way through a specially constructed drift course.

Meanwhile, performance lovers will get the chance to get close to some of the most desired road and track day cars in PistonHeads: The Performance Car Show. Among the fantastic cars on display will be the 2011 Nissan GT-R, which will make its UK debut at the show.

  5. Quick update if anyone's following the progress...

Spoke to both Husky and a helpful tech at Nissan HPC Oxford who gave me a list of fuses/relays (74, 86, 72, 71, 78, 76) within the Intelligent Power Delivery Module (IPDM - fusebox to you and me) which could be responsible. To get to this you have to remove the battery cover, then the plastic around the battery cover, then the plastic around that. Eventually got to the box - all the fuses were fine, and none of the relays were labelled, not even numbered.

Both the bloke in Oxford and Husky have never come across the problem before which is the story of my life with this car, and there's no information anywhere that even mentions that the lights should have auto-levelling. As such, I have recently acquired a PH2/250mm screwdriver which fits down the little hole to the adjustment screws and I'm going to turn it until the man at the garage gives me an MOT, then I'm going to pretend the car never had the stupid, pointless system in the first place!

If anyone stumbles across a solution or a decent IPDM diagram in the future, do let me know!

    Cheers

  6. It's due to the xenon lights blinding people so they have to be automatically adjusted to prevent this.

That's great if it actually worked! Any idea if there's a fuse for the adjuster? I can't find any useful info online about it.

  7. My Z just failed its MOT because the lights are too low. The guy was jiggling the assembly on the rear anti-roll bar, but the lights weren't moving. Reckon this just needs the ref point adjusted or is it likely that the adjuster itself is knackered? Is there a fuse for the adjuster motor?

Dunno why they couldn't just put a little switch in the dash like the good old days. How difficult is it for people to just move a switch?!

  8. Pretty sure that's where I got mine from. The battery clip isn't the best in the world and the cable coatings aren't looking as bright as they once did (after 1.5years), but I did notice a difference with it on. Not sure about improved throttle response or anything like that, but when pulling away from junctions, particularly when cold, there was a bit of a stutter. It was something that I'd got completely used to as a trait of the car but it was really noticeable by its absence once the kit went on. Much smoother at low revs and when cold. Piece of cake to stick on too, and for £40, why not?!

  9. Have I missed something? Does this thread relate to another one? :headhurt:

Is somebody selling cheap carbon pillar covers, and if so, how much and can I see them?!

Edit: Ah, ok, found it! Could be interested at the right price!

  10. I think the car looks soooo much better with the 20mm eibach spacer.

CS supplied them and also help me get them fitted at a very reasonable price.

Was looking at spacers, but as ever, I have questions...

    i) Are these the system 4 or 6 ones, which are best?!

ii) Are they suitable for use on track, or do they introduce extra stresses on hubs and whatnot?

iii) Is there much to fitting them - I assumed they were just bolt on, then bolt wheels on top?

    iv) How much, CS?!

  11. hi there,

could you post up a link to the kit you got, i am struggling to find the right one.

also how much discount do we get?

    cheers

But, yeah, just give them a call. Fitting's a piece of cake. You just need a 10mm socket, something to bodge a hole in the plastic bit in the engine bay, a screwdriver and the ability to read some very simple instructions. I'm iffy about doing anything myself, but I did it in my lunch hour with no problems.

  12. Update: (sorry for double post). Gave the car some beans on the way home from work and good God, what a noise! Love it! Why don't they make them sound like that to start with?!!

Recommend the JWT for top howling noise and muchos VFM. Buy! Buy! Buy!
