  1. I've just fitted a Metra 99-7602 fascia and it fits great and doesn't leave a gap. I bought mine from the following link, looks exactly like the one in the photo, cost $27 shipping to UK and only took a couple of days to arrive. http://cgi.ebay.com/METRA-99-7602-2006- ... m153.l1262
  2. First off, the mirror mount on any Nissan is the same as the standard Gentex mirror mount so you don't need an adapter. Once you unclip the plastic trim on the original mirror, you can push the mirror upwards to remove, leaving a small metal mirror mount stuck to the windscreen. To attach the Gentex mirror, slide the new mirror over the mirror mount and tighten screw to fasten into position. Route cables along front edge of headlining. There is no need to do anything with the headlining. There is a gap where it meets the top of the windscreen. Just push the cable into the gap. Route the cable to the passenger side. Pull off internal trim down windscreen pillar in order to route cables down side of windscreen. Route cables under front of dashboard, connecting nagative cable to suitable eathing point and positive cable to red cable on auxiliary socket wiring. If like me you get a mirror with tempeature sensor, the hard part of the install is to route cable to front of car, but you can get a cable through main grommit in bulkhead behind battery and attach temperature sensor to lower front grill.
  3. Satnav now sold - facia adapter still for sale though £10 +P&P
  4. GENK20 - with temp sensor and compass.
  5. Pic attached. mirror details are at http://www.gentex.com/automotive.html Plenty available from american ebay.
  6. Just found something out and thought I'd share it if anyone's interested.... I wanted to swap my manual dimming interior mirror for an auto-dimming one so bought a Gentex one off Ebay. My manual dimming mirror had 3 cables going to it but I couldn't find out what they were for and didn't show up in the USA service manuals. Having looked on a number of forums I couldn't find anything. I assumed that they were something to do with one of the JDM systems I swapped the mirror anyway which was an easy fix and instant improvement. I now also have a compass and external temperature reading showing on the mirror. When I came to lock the doors I found out that the cables were from the sensor that picks up the signal from the keyfob. I've now cut the original mirror in half, taken out the small circuit board, wrapped it in insulating take and tucked it under the headlining - key fob now works again.
  7. I've just installed a new head unit and used the double din fascia from a Metra facia kit. The kit included a single din housing with lower cubby hole which is now spare, so if anyone wants to install a single din head unit make me an offer. Note the kit is for a late 2005 model onwards (Metra 99-7602 kit). I've also got a sat nav unit with disc from a Primera / X-trail. It didn't work when I put it im my JDM Z, but now I've wired a new Alpine sat nav system into the existing wiring I've found out why. Although the plugs on the back are the same, the wiring on a 2005 model is completely different to on a 2004 model. So if anyone with a 2002 to 2004 model wants to give it a try make me an offer.
  8. Just a follow up note to say my car has now been cleared through customs at Southampton, although I haven't seen it yet as its at SVA UK getting SVA'd, etc. Autoadvans estimate of the final payment of £1800 was only £6 under what I've ended up paying (£418 import duty, £822 VAT, with remainder making up freight costs). Can't wait now to go and collect it in a couple of weeks time !
  9. N15MNO did you get it working ????? I bought a DVD player with disc out of a Primera, but as I've still a long wait to get my car I can't try it yet. It didn't cost much so was worth chancing it. If anyone wants to get hold of an X-trail SAT NAV simpson bros salvage at York have some although I'm not sure how much they cost !
  10. Sounds like a nasty experience on your 1st drive then. I'm glad in some respects that I've gone for something stock. I know the only thing they will have to swap over is the lights to get it through the test.
  11. I've just been told my car is on a ship due for Southampton docks towards the end of December .... so I'm getting a few prices for getting the car prepared and through ESVA, MOT, etc. Has anyone any experience of SVA UK at Southampton (quality, timescales. prices, etc ) or can anyone recommend anyone else ? I can either have it prepared / tested / registered in the south so that I can drive back to Wakefield, or transport the car closer to home as soon as it arrives at Southampton and have it sorted locally.
  12. I thought that as well and have queried this with Autoadvan - they have assured me that thats all I will have to pay ! I've seen similar queries regarding the way Autoadvan deal with the build up of the various fees on other forums, but everyone seems to come back saying that they only ended up paying the amount they were advised for Vat and customs. I'll just have to wait & see - at least the car is now on a ship heading for Southhampton (due to arrive 31/12/07)
  13. Thanks hedgy99, it looks like SVA UK Ltd have an updated model report. At least this puts my mind at ease
  14. Thanks nixy. I'm importing the car with the help of an agent but they don't provide the full service, so its upto me how I get it through SVA. Aparently the model reports that are available only cover Euro III emission models manufactured upto the end of 2005. I know that mine was manufactured in 2005 so I'm covered but because its a facelift model there are distinct changes on some of the components that the model report covers. I wouldn't have been bothered other than Charlesworth SVA who do this sort of thing everyday said they had a problem with another vehicle they are currently putting through SVA. If nothing else there is a word of warning here for anyone importing a car built after 2005 as there may not be a model report available to cover that vehicle.
  15. Hi, my first post on here so here goes. I am just in the process of importing a 2005 model car from Japan and didn't realise until I've just got the photo's from the agent that its a facelift model. I spoke to an SVA prep company a couple of weeks ago and they said that they were preparing a late 2005 model and were finding differences on the model report and may have difficulty getting it passed. So my question is has anyone else managed to import a newer model 350Z into the UK and if so who did they use or how did they do it ? I'm also keeping a diary of the experience if anyones interested at www.nigelchristie.co.uk , just in case the agent screws up so I've got some evidence !
