  1. Alright Alex, sounds like you have a right few stories to tell, any chance of telling us all what you replaced your Z engine with, or at least why you have a spare?
  2. Thanks, I will try Nissan head office (without holding breath) and go over it with a fine tooth comb when I get it back. I did check with another dealer and their parts system said the same thing about availability. You wouldn't get this happening with Honda I don't think.
  3. I had some tube in a Royal Mail van hit me before Xmas and write off the drivers door and wing on my 04 Z. At least he admitted liability. Trouble is the Z needs a part (a timer for the central locking) that is on 'back order' and this means that the car has been off the road for two months and wont be back until early March at the earliest. I recently found out it is in bits with the windows down and taped up with polythene sheet, the door trims off, the side skirts off, in gear, outside in a car park at the dealers since it has been with them all through the worst of the winter. My question is this: surely that is bad for it? the tyres will get flat spots, the lubricants should have been topped up and the battery removed at least, am I right? does anyone have any comments on how a Z should be stored for months over the winter and is it normal to have no parts available for this long? This is really depressing as I dont want it back if its never going to be the same again. What should I do?
  4. New clutch time......... Price on an oem? I'm sure nissan charge about £1k including labour. I'd get an aftermarket one from Adam or Bigphil Sounds like a good plan, how would I know that this is the cause though. Maybe a new flywheel...? Suppose the best idea would be to have someone look at it. Does anyone know of any non-Nissan garages worth their salt in the Glasgow area? Will have to get someone to fit any parts I might get.
  5. Unfortunately I have got more on my mind today as a bl**dy great Royal Mail cash truck just wrote off my front wing and drivers door. Door will hardly shut. At least the guy driving it admitted responsibility so hopefully all will be well. Took my mind off the clutch I suppose.. Seems like a mixed bag of responses, anyone else got a juddering clutch? I don't think the guy who owned it before me ragged it as it was mint and only had 18k. I'm more inclined to think its the pedal and its bits and pieces as the clutch functions well albeit with a high bite point. Thoughts anyone?
  6. I've had my Z for about 5 months and loving every moment although, one thing which definitely detracts from the whole experience is the weird noises and vibrations on my clutch pedal. I know there have been some posts mentioning that there has been one or two problems with iffy clutch bearings etc (I have an 04) but can anyone shine a light on whether this is what I've got or something else? - There is no noise when pedal used in neutral but around the point where the clutch bites, when releasing, the whole pedal vibrates under foot and it makes a noise like a shudder or, dare I say it, a growl(?) It is only noticable in 1st and 2nd. If you drive off really sedately you can avoid it but any kind of stick and it gets worse. Point is it p****s me off cause I love the car apart from that. Clutch works fine otherwise, no slipping but has quite a high biting point on the pedals travel. Anyone got any ideas on what this might be?
  7. My phone has a cradle with a different connector so I guess I will go and buy the BT adapter. I'm not worried about making many calls in the car but I need to be able to answer incoming calls. Will give it a go and hopefully all will be well. Surprised my dealer (Arnold Clark in Glasgow) has a 'bargain' although he has not been to bad to date I think although he did hit me up for £140 for the P1 (3 year) service.
  8. Thanks, Looks like all I need to know is a) my phone does Bluetooth and how to make it work with voice commands. Must be easy enough to tell it to answer a call I suppose.
  9. I got an 04 Z recently and went to the Stealers to ask about getting an adapter or new cradle so that I can use my Sony Ericcson W810i in car. Anyway, the young guy in the parts dept looked up his system and quote me £130 for a new cradle unfitted? I asked him to check this as my eyebrows must have been on the ceiling and he confirmed this and then siad the bluetooth one was 'only' £70, again unfitted. My question is does anyone know of anywhere that will sell one of these at a reasonable price and also, does anyone have any comments about how good or not the Bluetooth one is compared to the wired option. Will it do everything the wired cradle will? I'm not scared of spending cash but £130 + fitting for what is only a bit of plastic with a phone connector is a bit much.
  10. Thanks for that. Sounds like it's one for the dealers then. I noticed the top panel on the brace pops off but is overlapped by the sides of the boot so I see what you mean about the overlapping. I'll try to narrow the noise down as much as possible and then take it to the dealer, warranty runs out in 4 weeks so see what they say. Would be a shame to try unpicking the brace only to find the noise is coming from the boot lid. Oh for a friendly midget when you need one.
  11. Hope someone can help me out with this annoying problem. I have owned a UK 04 coupe for around a month, when I got it I noticed that two of the brackets for fixing the tonneau cover were broken; the top two had popped out of the holes in the underside of the strut brace. Anyway, the rattling of (what I thought was) the busted brackets made me take the thing off the other day and...the rattling is still there, in a big way. When the car goes over any kind of bump in the road it sounds like someone has left some nuts and bolts in the housing around the strut brace across the boot. I thought it might be some parts of the broken brackets for the tonneau that may have been left in the brace housing when the brackets broke. Does anyone have any experience of this or any instructions for stripping the strut brace so that I can stop this as it is doing my head in?
