  1. Cheers. Is it the case then that the ECUs are the same for the 276 model, the 287 are the same, the 306 the same. So as long as it is from a 276 model it would be ok?
  2. Does anyone know if an ECU from a 2005 350z would work fine in a 2004 (54) 350z? There was a model change in 2005 from the previous model with an increase in power etc.
  3. Alex, apologies if I came across as not taking the advice on board. I definately did hence my confirmation with the garage on the unit being dead and the diagnostic procedure listed on an earlier page being followed. I am also in a poor mood at the moment because of the cost so that may have inadvertantly come across in my messages. I am very appreciative for the advice given on this thread. I was simply trying to explain that the unit had been confirmed as dead. I have the same cynicism with the ECU being the cause of the problem as Nissan also told the garage that they have never had to replace an 350z ECU for a manufacturing fault. However the ECU is now dead so my worry is that the ECU has been damaged by a jump start. If this is the case it was either the recovery guy or me that did it. There were no sparks when jumping so i guess all that could have happened is a voltage/ampage overload from the other car when jumping. Therefore there will be another fault once we fix the ECU. Thanks for all the advice and if it turns out I am the first person to have a genuinely failed ECU unit I will post on here to let people know.
  4. ZMANALEX it is not a case of a second diagnosis anymore. I have been and seen the errors myself. The unit is definately dead. They have run all the diagnostics people have listed on here and more and they all indicate a dead ECU. It has been confirmed by Nissan central based on the information provided. Unless someone knows more than Nissan do about the 350z ECU. The only outstanding question is whether the ECU was dead before I came to start the car on Monday or the problem was something else and along the way the ECU was killed. The only way left to deduce this will be if when the new ECU is fitted if the car then works it indicates the ECU was dead before I came to start it and I have then have grounds with Nissan. If when the ECU is fitted it higlights another problem then the ECU has been killed through me/recovery guy trying to get the car started.
  5. The plot thickens with this. Nissan have come back and said they will not pay anything towards the ECU as they have never had an ECU fail on a 350z and think it has been caused most probably by trying to jump start and there being a spark causing the unit to short out. The car was tried to be jump started a few times by myself and the recovery guy. I don't recall any sparks and it does seem over sensitive that this would cause the issue but c'est la vie. Therefore what is likely is that the ECU has failed on top of their being a lower level fault that we cannot find because of the failed ECU. Great.
  6. When trying to resolve the problem yesterday we had the battery off for about 2 hours as initially I was confirming whether it was a flat battery. Then after reconnection we got the 0605 error code. The AA guy also got this after lots of experimenting (I was actually quite impressed with the AA guy which was surprising as for once he knew what he was doing) as did the Nissan garage. I am not sure if they tried the procedure below so will ask this. Thanks for all the advice though guys it has been really useful. I will be speaking with the garage later after they have discussed directly with Nissan. I will get the assurances but I cannot see another next step than a new ECU going in with an agreement that I am not paying for it if it does not fix it. If it does fix it then I am going to get heavily onto Nissan for some money back from them. All in all has put me off Nissan's for life which is a shame.
  7. I am based in Manchester but cheers for the offer. I am waiting on Nissan coming back with hopefully an offer of reduction as this should (a) not be happening after 4 years on any car and ( not on a car serviced to the letter in one of their dealerships. A close relative also works for Nissan so we have a lot of the cars in the family so as valued customers for many years I would expect some goodwill and I will be taking it up in writing with Nissan directly should I need to. As for guarantees for the work then I will not be paying anything for an ECU if it proves not to be the problem. The old one will be swiftly put back in. This will definately be explained to the dealer. Let's see what tomorrow brings...sighs...good job I have already bought Christmas presents or christmas would be cancelled!
  8. Easier said than done. I have a car that I cannot move stuck in the Nissan garage. To get in towed for another opinion is going to cost £100+ just for the tow.
  9. Got a call from Nissan. New ECU needed. 1600 quid fully fitted. Trying Nissan to see if they will give a discount as a gesture of goodwill for full service history etc.
  10. If it is a "goosed" ECU anybody any ideas on what they cost roughly?
  11. I have just tried the manual reset myself whilst waiting for the pick up lorry and got all the right flashing lights but aftet the reset it is still doing the same and not starting. It gets so close to starting it is almost unbearable. It really is the last part of the ignition sequence that is not happening which I guess is where the ECU comes in.
  12. Yeah he plugged in and scanned for OBD codes. The code was 'P0605 Internal Control Module ROM Error'. Which from what I can find is ECM/ECU related. He did a reset on the unit a couple of times and re-tried to start it and kept getting the same code. I guess the Nissan dealer may be able to take it another step further.
  13. Hi, My 350z would not start this morning. It turns over but just does not seem to spark or fire. I have had the AA out and they think the ECU has gone as an internal error code is being reported by the engine and everything obvious like power to the ECU, power in the battery, fuses etc seem ok. Great news before Christmas if this is the case. Has anyone else had any similar problems? Also does anyone know what it costs to replace an ECU in a 350? I am bracing myself for it being expensive.   15. Hi, I have just got my car back from the garage after it was hit by an object on the motorway that smashed the windscreen and crushed part of the roof. So 1 roof and many other parts later I have the car back. Now I am obviously looking at lots of items in the car closer than i have ever done before. One specific question is the 1/4 sized windows and the external seal around these. I had always assumed these were sealed around the edge in the same way as the windscreen, however I now look and they are actually inset against the external rear panel with a thick rubber seal between the window and the rear panel. Is this the same on all 350zs? as I guess I am worried they have fit things back incorrectly. If anyone can confirm how their windows are sealed it would be appreciated. Either that or I need to go and find one and check. Cheers, Glenn
  16. Kind of got this one sorted now. The garage have admitted they were at fault for not asking me about the change at 36k miles. They have agreed to do the work for just the cost of parts without any labour so i am thinking this will bring it down from the £53 they quoted to perhaps £10-£15.
  17. Hi Guys, Thanks for the welcolme. I will get some pics added asap. I have spoken to the garage and they say they check the antifreeze at the service and only recommend it if it needs changing. This does not sound right to me. I have read that you cannot test for the anti-corrosion abilities of the antifreeze. For me they should have raised this at 36k for changing and even should have noticed at 45k (when I did ) Before I go and kick off with them I am getting all my facts in order :-) Glenn
  18. Hi, I have just had my 350 in for the 45k service. On checking my service book I have noticed that it mentions two additional service items at the 36k service that I had not seen before. Antifreeze change - 36k Fuel Filter - 3k (maintenance free on 350z, does this mean nothing needs doing?) My question is surely they should have mentioned these at the 36k service and asked if I wanted them doing. Secondly how much would these typically cost and would you advise them? Cheers, Glenn
