  1. It was an indirect question :-D

I don't mind the gear box issue, it's all repairable I just don't want a £1k bill just after I've bought the car. I'll see what Alex says regarding used gear boxes.

Anyone have a clue about the cost of replacing a gearbox?

  2. Hi all,

I've just had an RAC check done on a 350z and the engineer has contacted me and given me the results. Apologies for the non-mechanical terms.

    These are the main issues:

    1) 5th gear crunch. basically the cogs arent meshing together properly. ive been told this leads to metallic deposits in the gear box/gear box area. Recommendation to replace gear box oil to clear out deposits, and to potentially open gear box and fix issue.

    2) passenger door and near side of the bumper show signs of re-spray, but no signs of replacement panels or mis-alignment of panels.

    3) front brake pads are worn and will need replacing in the next 2-3k miles

    4) brake discs show signs of corrosion but should be good for 20-30k miles

    5) service is due. last service was at 20k in June 2010, car is now on 27k. will the next one be a P1, P2, P3? and how much would i be looking at?

My biggest concern is issue number 1, does any know how much this would cost to get fixed (rough ballpark amount)? Clearly not going through nissan for that as I'd pay an extortionate amount!

The other issues don't concern me too much.

    The car is:

    350z 313 2007

    27k miles

    full Nissan service history

    2 owners

    sat nav

    rays

    GT pack

car is generally clean both in and out.

    Could someone please help?!

    Much appreciated.

  3. I'm in the process of buying a Zed right now.

I personally wouldn't touch a Cat D, whether it be a Zed or any other car.

Most people wouldn't want to touch it, so when you do go to re-sell it will be very hard. Plus from what I hear, insurance on Cat D cars can be higher too.

If you do choose to get it, make sure you get the RAC inspection. They've quoted me £254 + £31 for a Essentials Plus and the £31 because it needs to go up on the hydraulic ramps and they do that at a local Kwik Fit.

So £285 for some peace of mind.

    My 2 pence :)

  4. im pretty sure it is a 313 but want a second opinion.

reason i ask is because when I put the plate into an insurance quote it comes up as a "NISSAN 350 GT COUPE 3499cc 2 Door 2003----- ", and I would have thought it would come up as the 2007+ one.

actual advert of the car can be found here: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201120387710992/sort/priceasc/usedcars/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/price-to/12000/price-from/11000/model/350_z/make/nissan/postcode/cr42bh/page/1/radius/1501?logcode=p

  5. Hey All,

So I went up to Newcastle to see a Zed today...and loved it.

The car was clean, engine sounded good, interior was well kept.

The car is advertised as a 313, and the guy told me its a 313. Its got the bonnet bulge and its an 07 plate. Date of first registration is June 2007.

I popped the bonnet to check the engine bay, and compare the look with the post Ebized directed me at regarding the twin intakes. From what I could see, it looked like it did have twin intakes BUT the engine looked more like the first pic than the second pic in the link http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=39113&hilit=model+difference.

Like a lemon, I forgot to take a pic of the engine bay. I've asked the guy to send me a pic tomorrow so ill get it uploaded ASAP.

If anyone could confirm its a dual intake then I'm going to get the car...so hopefully this time next week i'll be the proud new owner of a Z!

  6. Hi all,

I'm not a newbie, but I didnt know where else to post this message so apologies in advance for posting in the Intro's area.

I've seen the following Zed for sale (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201120387710992/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-from/10000/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/price-to/15000/maximum-mileage/up_to_40000_miles/model/350_z/make/nissan/page/1/postcode/cr42bh/radius/1501?logcode=p) on autotrader. It looks like a very good deal, i've spoken with the seller whose been forthcoming with any info.

The car is in Newcastle, I'm in London...but I'm willing to travel up there this weekend to check it out. I've seen that some of the veteran Zed members have helped out others in checking out Zed's which they were about to purchase.

I hope this doesn't sound cheeky, but does anyone live in the newcastle upon tyne area who might be able to help me out here?

My plan is to check out the car this weekend (either tomorrow around 12/1pm or Monday at the same time), if I like it I'll get an AA/RAC check done (they've quoted me £300 because it has to go to a KwikFit and go on the ramps so they can check the underside properly) and then go back to pick up the car.

If no-one is around, can anyone give me an idea of the key things to look out for in a 07 Z?

Also, when doing a HPI check, it came up as a 2002-07 Z (i.e. the older one, not the 313 version). It has the bonnet bulge but does that definately mean its a 313?

Thanks to all in advance :)

  7. Hi all,

    I'm after a 350z, 07+ facelift version 313ps with the bonnet bulge.

I want one thats fully loaded (GT spec, sat nav, PDC if possible), less than 30-35k miles.

    Budget - £14k

Colours - Gun metal, twilight grey, black, white.

I've seen quite a few about, but I'm struggling to find any with either alezan or frost grey interior. I find black leather too simple!

There's not too many 07+ plate Zeds out there, and I go through both autotrader and pistonheads on a daily basis.

    Help!!!

  8. looks like i need to play around with the quote some more.

I'll only be driving the car less than 5k per year, since I work in london.

worse still, my mrs is an analyst at RBS...you'd think working in the insurance arm of a bank might give her some brownie points ( :teeth: ) but no such luck.

  9. Hi all,

I'm planning to buy a 313 Z fairly soon. At the moment I'm checking out insurance quotes. I've read some posts from other members who are paying around £1k, which I think is a good deal.

I'm 27, have 4 yrs no claims, no convictions, no points, no accidents, licence for 10 years.

My mrs will also be on the insurance (in the hope that she brings it down!) - shes 27, no convictions, no points, no accidents, licence for 9 yrs.

I am getting quotes of £1800+, the cheapest being Admiral.

The car will be parked on the road overnight, but that cant cause a huge amount of variation in the cost, and I've been opting for £0 voluntary excess.

Can anyone recommend some insurance companies, or even insight into why the price is so high!

I'd happily pay £1000 but £1800 seems extortionate.

    Thanks,

    Niraj

  10. Hey all,

Fairly new to the forum...and am looking to buy a 350z in the near future.

Quick question...do the Z's post 2007 come with alezan interior, or did nissan stop this option? I'm looking for a grey GT with alezan leather, but am struggling to find any. I noticed they have the grey leather option, but I quite keen on the alezan. It definately adds a nice contrast.

    Thanks
