  1. I ran 193 MPH three weeks ago at Bruntingthorpe on a V-Max day in a Porsche 996 Turbo Cabriolet. It is a big fat 1660kg 4wd soft top too !

It had around 550 BHP and 580 Lb-ft and we had a 10-12 MPH gusting wind coming in from left front ! So on a wind free day I expect we would have run 195 MPH.

I know Rod Tarry's tuner [Mark from MA Developments]

  2. Okay here's one for the really technical/ dynamics guys out there :-

If we had a 350Z with a fully built engine, churning out around 600 BHP & 600 Ft-lbs. With no top speed limiter, how fast do we think it will go on standard gearing ? Assume a 2 mile runway.

BTW it will rev easily to 7000 in 5th so can safely assume 7000 in 6th with top speed limiter removed. I believe it will run c185 MPH.

Could we assume with a 3.2:1 diff will it run 200 MPH ????

  3. I do believe that the exhaust manifolds are completely different, along with turbo oil feed etc. It has been done but does add time & money to achieve the desired results. Then you still need it tuned etc.

My advice is to buy a completed installation from either DSA or Garage Mac.

DSA replaced G-Force and Garage Mac is Jamie from WRC who carried out 6 x installations.

  4. On a N/A engine that has had Forced Induction added, the least grade of oil that I would like to see used is 15w50 Mobil One or 10w60 Castrol Edge. I am not an oil expert, however this engine is experiencing cylinder pressures far greater than it used to, so good oil is a necessity.

Flirt you do drive yours reasonably hard so get rid of the 0w40 as soon as is practical please.

    Cheers

ps Jamie has set up on his own near where we were. Trades as Garage Mac and he can look after the car for you from now on. Contact him at garagemac@aol.co.uk

  5. Flirt

It would have had 10w60 in it when it left us. You should use this or 10w or 15w50 at the least. Change every 4000 miles or so.

Please ensure that is not overfull ! The old minimum is the new maximum on the dipstick. You have my personal email, use it please and I will always help

    Cheers

  6. Alan hopeful the next car to be done will me mine ?

Nick hope to meet you at Silverstone. The build sounds fantastic cant wait to see it running.

    Hiya Mark

We have 2 x APS TT installs started today on std engines. We are poised and ready for you to give us the go ahead. Are you up for Cosworth short block on yours ?

  7. We would like to thank Nick for allowing us to build this car for him. It was a pleasure working with him through all of the stages, looking at what we thought would work based on past experience, what the mighty internet says will / should work, sifting out the crap and of course balancing all of this within a budget and of course Nick's desires.

Whilst the car still has a few small items to be attended to, it has turned out as good as we were expecting on all fronts.

Nick's own input was considerable, we were comfortable with this, he is one of very few people with my own personal mobile number. We are equally happy to provide a written estimate along with gant chart planning for those that want a true "turn key solution".

    Cheers

  8. We have struck a deal with one of partners from Europe. The system is 380mm 2 piece discs with massive 8 piston calipers.

You need 19" wheels for these to work.

They are not cheap at Euro 5500 inc vat but they are beyond belief !

BTW these are TUV approved. The disc rotors are from a Koennigsegg.

  9. If my calcs are correct 370 BHP ATW = c450 BHP At the crank on a chassis dyno but if you are using a hub dyno the 370 at the hubs would be c420 at the crank. The predicted failures are torque related so if the car only runs 5psi or so and delivers c400lb-ft with the correct fuelling & ignition it will be ok.

  10. We are nearing completion of our first Cosworth Evo complete with Cosworth big valve CNC billet cyl head, Cosworth cams, gaskets, Cosworth 2.2litre short block etc. The quality is outstanding.

With this in mind we can now supply any of the parts available from Cosworth Inc in California. See http://www.cosworth.com/shop_range.php? ... &typeid=44

UK legitimate prices will not be much above USA prices and all parts will be direct from Cosworth themselves and will be fully duty declared etc.

  11. We can supply DBA 2 piece slotted disc rotors, see http://www.dba.com.au/dba_catalogue_200 ... _index.htm

Designed for Nissan 350Z with Brembo calipers. Normal retail including delivery & vat is £530 per pair.

Group buy price for 5 x sets at a time is £485 delivered inc vat per set.

These are proper performance rotors and ideally should be used with uprated pads such as Endless or Pagid, along with uprated fluid & braided brake lines.

We can do Pagid RS4-2 / RS4-4 or RS 4-2-1 for front Brembo's at £190 delivered inc vat. Or RS 19 /RS29 at £230 delivered inc vat

OR Endless fast road pads at £150 delivered inc vat

We are awaiting pricing on Endless 2 piece disc rotors and I will post this up as soon as I get it. [Endless are huge in Japanese GT]

I also note that the UK price is the same as the US price but in pounds, why the differential (labour excluded)

The APS Single Turbo kit retails in good ol USA for $5889-98 plus any local taxes, plus inland USA freight [these vary depending on State] plus installation at your local tuner.

Our price is £5195 installed and includes all freight/Duties/Taxes applicable in the UK.

Please feel free to purchase a kit in the USA @ c£3100 plus £21 bank charges + c£500 freight + c £110 Duty + £652 vat or so = £4382 or so. Plus installation of c£1410 inc vat plus £410 mapping. This gives us £6200 so far !

  13. Most people on the US forums say that full boost is from approx 4000rpm.

How can mapping change the gas flow that is driving the turbo??? that is what governs boost pressure and spool up.

At WRC we map for engine efficiency by scaling the 3 main constituent parts to work in harmony. [AFR/Ign/Boost] The desired result is achieved by getting the correct amount of fuel delivered at a particular throttle position or load point, so as to avoid the engine being bogged down by trying to digest too much fuel. The better the mixture, the more efficient the combustion process becomes, thereby allowing the engine to rev freer and produce the gas quantities required to spool up the turbo.

A lot of mappers pour in fuel as an engine comes on boost thereby killing its efficiency, this is sometimes mistaken for turbo lag.

    Regards

    Allan

  14. Hi Allan

why do you have to change the strut brace, and can this be used inconjunction with a kinetix plenum, also whats the lag like on this?

The APS Plenum is a different size, so the stock brace no longer fits. The kit will certainly work with Kinetix, we just need to shorten inlet pipe slightly, as Kinetix puts throttle body in a slightly different position [i believe]

As for lag, a large capacity engine when turbo charged does not demonstrate serious lag. However lag can be virtually eliminated by correct mapping.
