  1. I don't know tbh mate. Not something I've thought about. That's assuming it is the Solenoid. But if it is, it's a good idea..
  2. I'm not one to shy away from a bit of work, or a possible good deal. It's likely a problem at this point! Seriously though, I feel like the car has some potential for being a good project.
  3. I'll let the guy know but I doubt he'd be willing to fork out for it. Especially as the vehicle is in limp mode and unlikely to be driven. Since the code is saying its the Solenoid, would I be right in guessing replacing it might work. I know I'm stabbing in the dark here which I personally hate doing. I usually run codes myself and then seek advice but given the circumstances, I'm left with little options.
  4. Appreciate you helping me out here mate. I take it Consult is a Nissan or 350Z specific software? In which case i doubt this garage will have access to it. It does seem like they were taking stabs at the dark replacing the chain mind. Expensive guess work for the owner..
  5. Just an update. He told me that the timing chain work was carried out as possible fix for the misfire. I find that really weird as any decent garage would run codes and then decide on a way forward. If they did this, they'd see the exhaust Valve code. I wouldn't get why they'd see that, and jump straight into a job that costs in excess of 3 grand? Unless there were other codes beforehand but this car is certainly a mystery..
  6. I did think about the timing chain. As far as I can tell, it was an indy garage but not one that specialises in Zeds. The car is currently about 3 hrs north of me and I haven't bought it yet because I wanted some input from the forum. He's only provided me the code after I asked. I have no idea if it's a DE or HR, but give the year and power output, I'd say it's a HR.
  7. Thanks for the reply mate. I have been quizing him on why he hasn't gotten it fixed. The car is currently stored at his local garage as he's moved away. He recently did a massive service on including timing etc which came to 3k and then this happened and he just doesn't have the inclination to fix it as he no longer lives near it. I do think me asking him all these questions might make him realise it may be an easy fix but I need to do my due diligence as well. It's a 2009 GT model 308bhp. 45k miles on it which is what really confuses me why it's having valve issues.
  8. Hi all. Just joined the forum as I'm looking at buying a 350 and found one that's a really good price with low mileage but ad states it's misfiring. I asked the guy to get a garage to run a code reader on it as I don't want to drive the 3 hours there with my code reader only to find it's something serious. Anyways, the garage came back with P0084. I've done some searches but I'm getting various answers. Mainly surrounding exhaust valves. Two main questions 1. Can anyone confirm what this actually is (I've looked on the forum at the code breakdown and it does say Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid Circuit (Bank 2). But, like I said, I googled it as well and it's giving me different answers. 2. Does anyone have a rough guess on how much this would cost and if its a DIY fix. I'm pretty good with driveway mechanic stuff but want to get an opinion on whether buying it is a good idea given the issue. Thanks all, hopefully join the Z community soon!
