An update for anyone that might have the same issue, hammering the steering lock was ineffective but grounding the pink wire let me start the car, so some success.
The weather was a bit brutal and it was late evening by time I managed to so didn't get a chance to pull the fuse yet. Anyone know if there's any issue removing the fuse when the car is started, does it have to be ACC?

Cheers mate, will keep the faith!

So I managed to get the car towed back to my place, we were able to steer the car onto the ramp so got me thinking if that means the issue isn't steering lock? Tried the hammer trick a few times and it's still not budging

It's left in a small commuter station in Glasgow. If I get it back to the house I can try get my hands on a few things to help but I've left it there for now, plenty of cameras etc around.
Will need to get up to speed with all the videos on how to fix it!

We're is the car now .
I'm sure zedmanalex said remove ignition cover and keep tapping ignition barrel with a hammer/ object I don't know if you need the key in the ignition.
Mines a 2010 ragtop I removed fuse on purchase .
Good luck
Stuck in the middle of a train station car park, doesn't really lend itself well to working on the car but may give that a go. Will try a hail mary and jump start it when I get my hands on some leads since it worked for GTEra. Might need to get it towed back home to try a DIY fix.

Lock failed on mine on 28th Dec, towed away to Nissan and still not fixed. 2012 GT, so not covered by voluntary recall/service. Also cited the fact I had only one service with Nissan as a reason for not undertaking replacement in courtesy/discount. I have only had the car one year and had my only service at Nissan. £950 the current going rate for steering lock part and fitting at Nissan for your information! Also based on posts elsewhere seems to be £2,200 for discs and pads all-round for anyone with money to burn.
Hope the original post helps people avoid the issue though!
Did you eventually get this fixed? Mine has just ha dthe key light and no longer starting, left stranded at the train station unfortunately! Car is a 2010 that was serviced with the same Nissan dealer for 5 years, hopefully they should have covered the recall and maybe have a chance at them fixing again (not holding out hope).
Prevention > Cure. Steering Lock fix. Fuse removal.

Got it fixed, thanks everyone for your help! It was fine just on ACC.
Had to backprobe the pink wire into the steering lock to get mine started. Literally just used a screwdriver to ground it against the steel frame of the car. Then followed all the videos on YouTube to get the fuse out
