  1. I... but... what if my combination never comes up? -I guess you're more than slightly right though, a sound answer haha.
  2. I guess that driving a couple more will be one surefire way of noticing faults from faucets I suppose. I'm not a fan of most shifters aside from stock that I've seen on Zeds, but that's a pretty sexy one.
  3. I apologise for all the questions that I'm possibly bombarding this forum with, but I'm rather eager to get my hands on a Z, the right Z, and you guys are the best place I have for information that js on-point. I've been speaking to my father on the subject of buying a Z, and, while he says that he thinks I'm stupid for splashing out on a fun car like this, he also supports the idea. He mentioned that a colleague of his found his dream car (a Civic EK6 I think... don't quote me on that) by going to Honda, telling them that he wanted a specific model/trim/colour/etc, and they sourced him one to buy. Is this a thing that Nissan/most garages would do? I know they will put a dealer's premium on the top, but if I tell them my dream setup for a 350z and they get me one with a little extra money, I won't be whining.
  4. I'm not too certain about the bonnet, I'm torn between that sleek flat profile and that curvy little bulge.
  5. Hey Ash, welcome! This place is a wonderful place full of great people who are friendly, helpful and interactive! Love the Z by the way, if only I could stumble upon such a beautiful specimen for myself! Haha.
  6. Currently on the hunt for my perfect (Fair)lady... maybe one day she will be found.

  7. I took a test drive of a 2005 manual 350z, and I found it really hard to get it in gear; the owner seemed to do it without an issue, and there was no grinding, clunking, or clutch pedal resistance -the gear stick was just acting like there were no notches until I pushed harder. Upon mentioning it to the owner, who makes a living from flipping cars, they said that stuff needs to be more hard-wearing in performance vehicles. It might be of note that the vehicle in question was completely unmodified, and had at least had the slave piston replaced in it's lifetime of <100k miles. Is this just a feature of Z's, and sports cars in general, or is it a known issue that telegraphs that something is off with the transmission? I can live with this if it is just characteristic of the Z, people often complain about a 'notchy' feeling, but there are also lots of complains about the Volvo V40's notchy gears and I love them.
  8. An imaginary one; there's space on the drive, and money in the bank, but 'the one' for me has not surfaced in my searches yet.
  9. Personally, I prefer the look of the pre-facelift front end, but I was wondering if anyone knows any more noticeable differences minus an engine tune-up? Which one do you prefer, and why?
  10. Caught a glimpse of an orange 350z coming out of Tescos in S****horpe at around 1pm today (23.02.18). No pictures unfortunately due to maneuvering around a mini roundabout at the time, but it was all so slow-motion! Edit: I love how Scunny is censored, haha!
  11. Moving to Scotland sounds like a think I might have to go and do... haha!
  12. Does anyone know much of a benefit a stock Z get from remapping alone? Is this something that is taken as a given with sports cars, or are they as good as can be out of the box until you decide to bolt on extra power? Perhaps a DE might be a better option for myself then, a lower price tag will give me a bit of a buffer fund for maintenance and insurance, thanks for all the information, I can't thank you people enough for taking your time out to answer my endless horde of questions!
  13. Thanks a bunch, every bit of information helps me consider the right choice/s! It sounds like I will be looking more towards UR engine models unless the shortcomings of the HR are universally for all 350's; I love higher revving engines, especially when it is a 6 cylinder as opposed to your standard 4 that is in most 'normal' cars. GT spec sounds like a nice bonus, although that would depend on the possible pricing difference and if I personally feel like a few nice add-ons are worth it; The interior wouldn't bother me too much as long as I can sort out anything that is particularly beat-up or worn.
  14. I've done some reading up and searching online, and while there are plenty of guides and videos out there, I'm still rather confused when it comes to certain aspects of the vehicle. I want one, I know that much, however, I don't know if buying a 350z is a realistic option for me at this moment in time, and I am in no shape to go and look at specific listings as I know very little about the ins and outs of the car itself. Many of my questions listed below might be definitively answered in another post, poll or web-page, and a link to those would be appreciated as much as an answer! Models and Face-lift/s. For me personally, the 350z Coupe is the only model I will be looking into getting, as it is my dream car. That said, is there some glaringly obvious reason that I should consider a roadster to the coupe, or a 370 to a 350? As for face-lift/s, I've heard of a face-lift version, however I can't understand the differences, and can't tell them apart, are they different in any major way? Colours. I can probably quite easily find somewhere on this forum that details all of the manufacturer colours for the vehicle, but which is most common, and are there any side-by-side comparisons of all the colours? As a side note, has anyone had a 350z resprayed, if so, what colour/s, were there any complications or difficulties, and what was the cost of respraying one of these? Years. I've heard that there are (three?) different versions of the Z's engine: DE, RU and HR running from 2003 through 2008; is one particular type objectively better than the other two, and is there one that should be actively avoided? I've heard things about taxation differences between pre and post 2006 models, how does this affect vehicle costs on a long-term scope? Trim Levels. What is the complete range of trim levels available, are there any significant alterations to asking price for different trims, and is there one level of trim that is 'better' than the others, e.g: I know that having a built-in factory sat-nav is pretty much worthless. It may also be of use to note the rarity of these differences if you know such information. Optional Extras. Aside from trim levels, what other extras are available from factory, and are there any in specific that one should look out for when viewing a used 350z? Modified Versus Stock. There are a lot of non-stock 350's out there from my brief inspection at places like Auto Trader and PistonHeads, and while I don't want to have a stock model, I would want to acquire the car as close to stock as possible, or at least with the stock components that were swapped out; is it possible to acquire a stock model, or are modified versions all that is available these days? Replacement Parts. Several questions immediately spring up when it comes to replacement parts: Are both OEM and aftermarket parts still available at a reasonable price from garages and dealers, or are second-hand parts the only available option? Are aftermarket parts better, or at least as good as OEM when it comes to both quality and functionality? Mileage. Mileage never really concerns me when looking at cars; I understand the implications of wear and tear on components, but perhaps a model with 500,000 miles on has survived so long that it may have renewed most of its problematic parts? What sort of mileage milestones are common on these cars, and what are things to look out for in particular? E.g. clutch, rust under arches and skirts, etc. Where and When to Look. I have no true experience in buying cars, especially from private sales as my first car was a hand-me-down, and my second was purchased through Volvo's Selekt (second hand car sales) at a dealership. As for buying a car that is now somewhere around ten years of age, I doubt I'll be able to find any examples, even at second-hand garages without some prior investigation and asking around; where is the best place to look for these sorts of cars, e.g. Ebay perhaps? Price Range. I understand that certain features of the above mentioned topics will greatly affect the asking price of the car, but what is a sensible price range for these things, for your average-spec model? I'm not too certain wether buying something such as a 350z is viable for me right now as I've seen broken models at around £2,000 to £4,000, and working models going for anything between £5,000 and £20,000. The basis of this falls down to how long I need to save up before I can get one. Expenses. Previously I mentioned tax, but are there any other expenses that come with long-term ownership of such a vehicle outside of refuelling, general servicing, insurance, and expendable parts (such as tyres, wiper blades, oil, etc.) Thanks for taking the time out to read the above and help a newcomer like myself understand Z's a little better! Dominic.
  15. Thanks for all the feedback and advice guys, this forum seems like a great place, just from a glance! As PPod suggests, I will most likely be looking into having the Volvo as a workhorse/long-distance daily driver and keeping a Z in my back pocket for those trips that need a little something-something; if my expected mileage plummets from a local job or a relocation, I would maybe consider having a 350Z as my only car, as this would perhaps be cheaper than running two cars, like a few of you have mentioned. For some reason, I have this growing, overwhelming urge to "BUY ONE NOW!" SORN it, mess around with it in some unnecessary way, probably involving taking parts off just to clean/ensure their condition, and sticking them back on; why, I don't know. Can anyone provide a reason for buying, SORNing and reinsuring later on, perhaps at 21, perhaps at 25, or should I wait until 21/25 to even consider actually buying one? Either way, I fully accept that any sort of high performance car, especially one that is not brand-spanking new, will be a bottomless pit for money and stress, but the only time I've ever been outraged at throwing money towards a set of wheels was replacing turbo parts on my old Škoda, where there seemed to be some sort of unforeseen wearing element not actually involving the turbo unit itself that set the whole system off in this recurring loop of replacing part after part that eventually lost the feeling of hope in the vehicle's health.
  16. Currently not an owner of a Z.

  17. I am unsure what to do with myself! Let's talk dream cars, mine: the 350Z. If you don't want to hear my life story, I have a potentially simple question at the bottom of this post. Currently, I drive a Volvo V40 ('14) as a daily driver and only car, doing on average 240 miles a week with fuel costing ~£40 a week. Insurance for the year set me back ~£1500 for the Volvo, considering that I am 20 years of age and currently carry no NCD due to changing policies part way through the year. Despite the V40 being a brilliant car that I do want to keep until beyond the end of time itself, I feel that I want something that is more fun to drive, a little older and cheaper (so I can have a go at tinkering with a car myself, as opposed to going to a garage), not to mention wanting a cool car that is not seen every day! I looked at a range of cars for a while, I decided that it had to have 'Excessive power' (considering that I currently have ~115BHP/270NM), and be from a venerable Japanese automaker; this narrowed my search down to makes such as Toyota, Subaru and Nissan. Cutting a long story short, the 350Z was my ultimate car of choice, however: is it sensible and realistic? Currently, I'm looking into buying two cheap, partially broken examples, fixing one with the other and keeping/selling the spare parts. Is this a good idea, considering that I have no experience with this sort of thing; is it better to just buy a working model? TLDR question: why should/shouldn't I buy into a 350Z, is this a good idea/viable for me, and/or is there any advice you wouldn't mind sharing with a noobie such as myself? Cheers, Dom.
