  1. Then in 2006 it got a bump to 296bhp and was known as the "revvup" engine, it was basically a map on the DE engine that only licenced garages could modify. Few garages have this.

I think you might be getting rev up and up rev confused. One is a 350z engine the other is the software used for remapping. :)

Haha that's the one. I wasn't far off.

  2. The DE engine is the first engine the 350z received. It was in vehicles from 2002 - 2005 and it produced 276bhp (the uk version, the u.s one made 287bhp).

Then in 2006 it got a bump to 296bhp and was known as the "revvup" engine, it was basically a map on the DE engine that only licenced garages could modify. Few garages have this licence.

Then the later ones were known as HR, this stood for "high revolution" as the engine had a higher rev limit. The engine produced less torque but more power (308bhp). The engine was claimed to be 80% different to the DE and it resulted in a bigger head, this could seen by the twin intake plenums on the top and the redesigned bonnet to allow for the taller block. The DE had a single intake plenum.

I'm not sure how accurate some of that is but on the whole those are the differences.

  3. I'll try and keep this to the point, I know many of you will share my frustration when you feel you've been taken advantage of and not received justice when being swindled on eBay. I'd just like to make all forum members aware of a particular eBay seller who sells aftermarket body kits for cars.

    His ebay username is "bromotorsport"

I recently purchased a 350z ING-S front lip for my Z and when I finally had a day off to take it to a body shop to get it fitted did I found out it was a terrible fit, and I don't mean like a fibre glass one that needs modification but a plastic one that can't be fabricated. It doesn't follow the shape of the bumper leaving large gaps under the reflectors, the ends are about an inch too short and don't tuck inside the wheel arch as they should.

After I messaged the guy who basically told me I was lying and it does fit I looked at his feedback to see others suffering the same problem. I sent him images showing the poor fitment and after arguing for days he finally agreed to accept my return. His messages were short and evasive and he kept changing his mind about the refund then trying to make it as difficult as possible throwing extra charges in for return shipping. He eventually boycotted me so I rang ebay who told me that I actually have a 6 month money back warranty because it's not as described. Instead of acting like a responsible business owner and resolving it like adults he decided to call me out and make me go through the long winded process of an eBay case. I know you should never buy cheap aftermarket kits and I honestly thought I wouldn't be one of the ones who got stung, I just want to make everyone aware as I've seen others asking about that front splitter and there are only two vendors on eBay that make it. I only found out later the other was TarmacSportz and I kicked myself for not using a reputable seller.

Apologies for the long message everyone but I just didn't want anyone else going through the trouble that I've had with this individual. Just remember if you use PayPal you have rights outside of eBay and you don't have to accept being ripped off.

Once again his user is username is - bromotorsport

  4. Honest opinion is the Scorpion is the best in terms of build quality and it will last a long time. Cobra are also a close second and both of these come with a lifetime warranty

Scorpion is a tad quiet and only has slash cut tips

    http://www.tarmacsportz.co.uk/products.aspx?CategoryId=dd1edc90-f600-4205-8db1-1dede1281030

Cobra comes with a few different tip options and resonated or unresonated

    http://www.tarmacsportz.co.uk/cobra-shop.aspx

We have been dealing with both brands for many many years and they both have really good customer service, if you plan on keeping the car for a while then you won't go wrong with either of these.

Drop me a pm if I can help further

    Cheers Chris

What sort of prices can be had on the cobra? I've noticed some sites offer coupons to receive discount.

  5. I apologise if this thread has been covered but after doing an Internet search I haven't found a clear winner.

Obviously much of it is down to personal preference but I think there must be clear advantages to why you'd pick one over the other. From what I've gathered, the K1 is the loudest and cheapest but I'm getting mixed opinions on fitment quality and customer service.

If it's a straight fight between Cobra and Scorpion which is better? I want it to be quite loud but also sound nice, magnifying the v6 note.

    Any advice would be great.

  6. So I've just received my 30mm front and rear wheel spacers in the post and after spending much time fitting them I've noticed that I get wobble through my steering above 30mph. They don't rub or catch, i wire brushed the hub and copper greased the bolts etc. They seemed to fit snuggle enough even though they aren't hub centric ones but I can't think why they are wobbling. I didn't have a torque wrench so they were hand tightened so possibly this could be a culprit?

    Any ideas?

P.S sorry if this has been covered.

  7. Also correct me if I'm wrong (going on my other posts, I'm wrong 75% of the time)

Isn't the Cayman S a 3.4 litre? And torque os quite close. So I'm going down to gearing and not having to rag a it out as much. That Porker must of sounded good though opened up?

Give them a bendy road, and I think we'd get left behind a bit cause of our, ummm, ballast shall we say ;)

You're absolutely right it is a 3.4 my mistake. We did take them through some twisties but again I think it's more down to driver ability at that point, it was very close even indeed. The Porsche sounds good yeah but call me biased, I think my Z sounds better, I just wished it revved as freely and as high.

Variables make a huge difference but we both had good rubber on, he did have his gf in so the weight might of been marginally closer to even but I did have 3/4 of a tank and he had 1/4. Swings and roundabouts. On paper the Porsche is faster but in the real world even with two decent drivers little separates them.

  8. Haha great stuff.. Although I would rather have the refinement of the porker over the Z any day.

Well of course you get the Porsche name and looks but in truth, it's aged inside and out like any other car, the leather isn't great, there's scratches every where and it generally looks used. Plus he's had several issues with the car which have cost him heavily. So while its refined I think it ages just as much as any other sports car. Personally I'm not for show boating I just love driving, I think the Z is a perfect balance of performance, build, reliability and price. His Porker cost £10k more and could only just keep up.

  9. So my friend owns a 2006 Porsche Cayman S (3.2 290hp) and I've not long had my 350z (276). I've always wondered how badly I would lose in a straight line race and today I had the chance to find out. We found a derelict road where we could get through the first 4 gears safely, much to my surprise/delight the Porsche was not only not faster but I was very very slightly pulling away from him. I underestimated my Z, from the posts I see in here not many have faith in the performance of their cars and until today I had never "raced" anything comparable. It's unfair to say which is faster on the whole as they were so incredibly close!

  10.

I'd possibly look at something different to the scorpion exhaust if you are disappointed to the standard quietness of the Z. Scorpion is one of the quietest 350z zorsts.

Oh really? That's interesting. What's a good exhaust that offers the nicest growl for the money. The scorpion was appealing because it's only £400, the other recommended zorts are nearly double, some even more.

Is there a better one for that kind of money?

  11. Sorry to all the people who already have this mod, I'm just excited because the car is new and the novelty hasn't worn off yet.

Here's what it looks like fitted-

    e122f4120dd1a6f8b5e5c59354574835.jpg

It only took one day from Tarmac Sportz to arrive as I was greeted by a large box when I got home from work. After about an hour of ignoring the instructions and making it fit correctly (what a ball ache) I finally had it sitting pretty in my engine bay. First turn of the key and everything seemed good so took it for a little drive and the sound is brutal. It's a shame standard Z's are so quiet standard because that V6 has some great pipes!

Next on the list is a scorpion back box and stillen Y-pipes.

I've also heard a plenum spacer is a must but I don't know why, what does it do?

  12. So I've created a small ðŸ˜... shopping list for my car, was wondering if you guys could approve of some of my choices or advise me on what's better. So far I've decided on :

    front splitter (eBay jobby)

    scorpion back box

    Stillen Y-pipe

    JWT pop charger

    25mm wheel spacers

    Rear diffuser (eBay jobby)

And possibly some better shocks, if anyone knows which are best?

Of course I will do this over time so it probably sounds a little optimistic.

  13. M3 gets my vote. The new mustang will just attract the wrong attention and not be as good to drive, the Merc will no doubt be the most expensive to run (assuming cost is important) and the Audi, well, the RS6 got voted the most unreliable car in Britain by the 2015 Whatcar annual review.

In fact, as a company out of the 35 companies tested, Audi came 33rd, VW about 30th, Seat 11th and Skoda 4th. So out of all the "reliable, well built vags" only the Skoda beats it's "less reliable" Ford, Vauxhall, Renault and Citroen counter parts (I can't remember where Nissan came) Personally I think Audis are very nice in terms of build but this myth that they are engineered beyond the need for worry is just not true. Also, when compared with the M3 it's no where near as good to drive, they are front heavy and generate massive fun killing understeer (on the limit of course). I would still have one just for its image and noise, plus I haven't heard any horror stories for the RS4. But if it's a drivers car you want I think the M3 is very very hard to beat.

  14. I'm pretty sure they are 2.5 straight six (the older ones) my friend had a 3 series 325i and that was a 2.5 straight six (220hp). Would make sense as its called the 325i, or 125i in this case. I know they do a 130i and a 135i. I think the latter is turbocharged too. Same applies for 3 and 5 series.

  15. The thing that most people don't appreciate is that most cars with similar power and weight are almost identical in terms of speed. I had an Astra VXR and my brother had a Civic Type R (40hp less) but on the road they were nearly identical in a straight line. The extra power only gives it a slight edge, it's never going to be night and day unless the cars in question are very different in terms of power. The 350z is no drag racer but it's certainly not slow, the 2.5 straight six BMW engines make a healthy 220hp and make good use of it. 220hp vs 276hp in the Zed is never going to be night and day. I raced a Focus RS (mk2 300hp) in my VXR and while it was quicker it was barely pulling away. You need a lot more power / a lot less weight to really whoop someone.

Hope that's the answer you were looking for.
