  1. I'm no expert but 1st to 2nd gear change is a common thing with the zed and you'll get use to that sometimes changing the gear box oil and adding moly slip helps that. As for the clunking noise I'm not sure , someone will be along with more knowledge of that

Thanks for the fast reply! It probably doesn't help that I'm coming from a 130bhp Turbo Diesel! But the clunking does worry me a lot. I assumed it was normal being a high performance car, now not so sure.

  2. So annoyed after how much I've spent!

Basically, when I push in the clutch there is a clunking noise from the front (I think) and first and second gear are hard to get into. When changing from first to second there is also a big clunk. I'm scared it's something serious.

Through the later gears, gear changes are easier and there's no clunking, but when coming to a stop for example and I push in the clutch, most of the time there is this clunking.

Any ideas? I didn't notice it on the test drive but he was driving.

  3. Put a deposit down and should be picking up a 55 350z on Wednesday.

I've read horror stories about rust and this is my main concern. I inspected the usual places and there were no signs of rust at all. However, at the very top of the suspension where it connects to the body, there was surface rust there. I was told not to worry about this by my mechanic friend.

I plan on owning the car for 2 years then selling it to help fund my deposit so I really can't afford for rust to be an issue! I know you can under seal then, where can I get this done and how often does t need to be re done? I think it's been done already.

    Thanks!

  4. Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a Zed.

The service history intervals are as follows:

    P1 Service - 6969 miles, 11/2006

    P2 Service - 9078 miles, 11/2007

    P1 Service - 10690 miles, 11/2008

    P3 Service - 12844 miles, 11/2009

    P1 Service - 16808 miles, 12/2011

    Presitge - 28632 miles, 11/ 2012

    P1 Service - 38486 miles, 05/ 2015

Should I worry about this? The car is in fantastic condition and looks fine mechanically. My only concern is the gaps in the servicing and it's re-sale value. Does this count as full service history?

  5. As Ekona says about the insurance. Speak to them directly, be honest and explain to them that you believe it has a factory fitted bodykit one - get them to list what exactly that comprises of too! - and let them decide if they want to charge you extra for it or not essentially. Admiral will charge you extra for the priviledge of having modifications on the car (any their definition of "modifications" is loose at the best of times) but if you opt for the additional "modifications cover" they will pay out a maximum of £500 and not a penny more. That, by the way, is £500 over the "market value" of a base spec car.

Speak to proper insurers instead and get a proper level of cover.

Thanks guys! Is there anywhere on the paperwork to say it's factory fitted? As all it seems to be is word of mouth!

  6. Looks tidy. Ad says factory fitted kit so right there and standard exhaust by the looks of it, got it wrong about the Bhp though.

Yep! The exhausts are standard, but that's better for me as I have tinnitus! That's a shame, I thought the later 2005 may have had the more powerful engine.

Still has plenty of power. I've declared all my factory fitted extras, body kit and wheels and it doesn't make all that much difference, don't worry.

I'll have a look now. I'm only 22 so could make a huge difference!

Try Admiral, that's who I'm with. Gives you a list of Mods on there website.

Thanks! Only £700 for a 22 year old, not bad.

Scrap that, there's an option for factory fitted body kit, not much difference at all!

I assume by body kit it means everything, as there's a separate option for Skirts etc?

  9. By genuine nismo I'm assuming he/she means factory fitted Which was an option from new. If it's genuine then the bumpers will be fibreglass. It should also flag up to the insurer if it was fitted at factory so no need to worry.

Sorry, maybe I'm more of a noob than I realised. Yes, factory fitted. Is there anywhere that will prove it was factory fitted? Thanks! So only after-factory parts need to be declared? Apart from that it's completely standard which is nice.

  10. Often the cost of the zed isn't the main issue its runnig costs with insurance, fuel servicing etc. account for it all before the purchase. Sometimes I see new young members buy a car then find insurance costs are all astronomical. Good luck with the purchase, the car does look in good condition.

    Where are the nismo wheels?

The insurance is only £650-700 which isn't bad at all! Don't worry, I've planned enough for the costs :) Thank you! I just don't understand if I should declare it as a standard car or not, as if the kit is on from factory then it's standard I think I read somewhere?

  11. But thought I'd come on here and get a bit of advice first! So thanks for any replies...

My first question is with regards to servicing.

This particular example has 38K miles and is 10 years old. During this time it has had 7 services. At one point there was a 3 year gap between the services during which it covered 10K miles. Should I be concerned? I personally don't think I should be too concerned, I worry about re-sale however.

The car is also a Nismo, but doesn't have Nismo exhaust or rear bumper?? Not sure if the rear bumper was on all of them. Do I have to declare the Nismo kit to the insurers or just type in the reg and it will be fine?

It's a 2005, 55 plate. The insurers show it as a 276bhp, but it should be 296, is that correct?

I worry about rust too, any advice would be good!

Thanks for your help, I'll try to think of more questions!
