  1. I've had a number of cars done by a specialist (south east).  Waxoyl is rubbish.  Dinitrol and Bilt Hamber products are excellent.

There are plenty of splash it on and run merchants so you need to seek out a specialist.

I'd recommend looking at the off road forums such as Land Rover and Defender.  Their owners are often well into this sort of protection.

  2. The big panel that sits behind you when the hood is down, the one with the two humps, is being repainted and I need to find a part number or source for the clear plastic that is fixed on top of that panel in line with the rear of the hood.  You can see it behind the hood when it's up.  It looks like the same material as that side protection film you see on the sides of many cars ahead of the rear wings.

I'd prefer that it's removed and replaced during the painting rather than being masked off.  Can anyone identify it?  It's the same shape as part 97186U in this link:

    Thanks.

They're quite expensive from Nissan so might be worth looking for used first.

  4. I have a GR Yaris - fantastic little car. I think we have yet to see some of the best ICE cars so I think I'm some way off knowing what will be my last one. Never had a V10 and would like to try one but there aren't many to choose from.

  5. Friday and Sunday tickets with roving grandstand access and programme discount are still available today direct from Goodwood at £127 each.

Monkeybrain - it's probably worth posting a wanted request in the Goodwood sub-forum on Pistonheads where tickets are usually sold at face value.

Touts are treated with the contempt scum deserves.

  6. Will weigh in and say I totally agree with Ekona re powerful cars feeling faster over 100. His 6er definitely did, and my old Tubby Zed did too. On a certain track I would wager that both cars were close to the highest top speeds down the back straight even though every man and his Nova was catching up in the tighter corners!

But my old Zed...Despite being 100bhp and 130lbft up on a standard Zed, there wasn't *that* much noticeable difference below 70 or so. (Although I reckon I'd have the edge on an Astra VXR :boxing: )

At higher speeds and into 4th gear it was just ridiculous though. A massive slug of midrange torque and the extra power meant you could get well into three figures with frightening ease. Your Astra VXR would think he was going backwards once I got into 4th...

Was similar with Ekona's 911 and my Zed too. I was running a lower tune and about 330 ish bhp and 320 ish torque. The turbo torque helped and at lower speeds I had no trouble keeping up (I'm not even sure if I was slightly out-accelerating the 911 in 2nd at points) but as soon as we got to higher speeds he began to disappear.

As for Jags... DO IT! I had an S-type 4.2 V8 (the better engine) and it was just fantastic. Cornered with the precision of an aircraft carrier, but was so comfortable and the interior quality (cream leather heated armchairs and walnut veneer) was on another level compared to a lot of cars I've been in. It was just SO plush. Wasso came and machine polished the car and it looked positively regal afterwards.

The 300bhp V8 and auto box were creamy smooth, but it had torque in spades and could really, really shift if you wanted it to. Didn't sound half bad either and the whole car would wobble if you revved the V8 at idle. Awesome.

Just a shame that the electrics were dodgy, the boot filled with water and the fuel economy was measure in Gallons per Mile rather than the other way round. Brakes were strong, but when you had to step on them hard the wallowy mass behind you would sort of sway and swerve about like an aircraft undertaking a bumpy landing.

All of which is why you should get the STR (or an XJR). It's like Jaguar got hold of the standard V8 and said "right, let's sort this thing out, money no object". I also ran an E39 M5 for several years and people will tell you the M5 is unbeatable. I prefer my Jag.

  7. Got my name on a 13 plate XJR 5.0 litre V8 supercharged from one of my suppliers. Will have about 26000 miles on when I get it next May.

You wouldn't,believe how much value its lost over three years . To buy from the leasing company they only want £22 k !!!

I know the supplier personally and he has the car professionally valeted every week.

This has to be my final retirement car !

By a strange coincidence I have first refusal on a 2014 car next year. Unfortunately I don't think the numbers will work for me as the car will still have a lot of depreciating to do and I don't think I'll be happy to swallow it. Yours sounds like a better deal.

  8. I have an S type R. Very rare car which means it doesn't attract unwanted attention. Very quick (much more so than a Z) but also very comfortable. It's other benefit is its size - nice and compact. I'm not bothered about people who think it's an old person's car. I wouldn't mix with anyone that thick.

I've toyed with the idea of an XJR but I suspect it would be too similar to drive as my STR to be worthwhile. They also look bigger. I think you should expect running costs to be much higher with the Jag unless you're very lucky. MPG will be similar but other costs will be higher. Beware the valley pipe on the supercharged engines. They always fail (typically at 60-80K) and are a labour intensive job to fix. Budget £750.

Ryan is your man. Tell him Pete from East Preston recommended him.

had 3 quotes, he's the only one so far that said it needs filling and respraying :/ lol... and that he cant do it.

That's one of the things that makes him so good. Plenty of people will tell you they can do it and you end up with a less than satisfactory repair. He won't do anything he wouldn't be happy with himself. I'd be inclined to take his advice as not many people turn work away but good luck if you go another route. Sounds as if you need it...
