  1. My Z is a 2004, so I understand the power outlet needs the ignition to be on to be live. I’m not up to changing the electrics to get round that, as I’ve seen covered on here. I’d like to use a solar powered trickle charger this winter when the battery is vulnerable but I don’t fancy leaving it outside on the windscreen, given the state of the neighbourhood. Is there any route thru from the battery space to the cabin that I could thread the charge leads thru? Thank you in advance.

  2. My Z nearly overheated in gridlocked traffic this week - needle way up to the top of the orange border. Needless to say stuck in a jam this was not a pleasant experience, luckily  I was able after a while to get off onto a side street and let it cool for an hour, before driving a mile home when the needle stayed at about 40%, heating full on.

Later I ran the IPDM - which I have to say is a pretty cool feature for a car of that vintage - and the sole fan I heard is working, but it wasn’t very loud.  My q to you lovely fellow Z owners this rainy Sunday morning is how many fans should I hear during the test if all is working correctly? I’ve read different things, hence the q.

I appreciate that even if the fan(s) is working, the sensor may be broken. The coolant level is fine, if anything high. In all probability wherever it is is just due to old age, but any steer welcome. Nb I won’t be playing with the electrics myself so please don’t feel you have to waste time talking circuit testing - that’s well beyond me.

Thank you in advance, as ever.

  3. Am I right in thinking all pre 2006 Zs will get caught by this? Being Euro 3 for emissions, when Euro 4 is the minimum needed to gain exemption.

If so, is there any way short of changing car to improve the emissions?

    Thanks all in advance.

  4. Thanks. It needs the drivers door window motor and trim etc, the drivers seat (most of it is ok but the corner and motor under it destroyed), roof trim, plus there’s smoke damage to the windows. Tbh it doesn’t smell too bad. Plus related electrics obviously.

  5. Hi, I hope this is in the right sub-forum.

My 2004 350z had a fire last night. No obvious external cause (unless someone turned the alarm on after setting the fire and shutting the door).

The inside of the driver's door and the front right corner of the driver's seat are completely destroyed, lots of damage to the interior roof trim etc, seat part-melted etc,  and the insurer wants to write the car off :(

I last used it at the weekend and the fire happened in the middle of the night, so the car was completely cold.

I re-filled the screenwash at the weekend, it took about 2 litres, but I can't imagine that's relevant.

I can only imagine that something in the cabling, which I think runs down the side of the driver's seat, failed and sparked. There was some kitchen roll in the doorwell which would have ignited and clearly did.

I wondered if anyone has any experience of this and, before I take the write-off amount, any suggestions of places in or around London that might be able to fix it.

    Thank you all in advance.

  6. Hello - I've seen the very helpful posts on changing the batteries in the alarm key - thank you.

Just a quick q about how to tell whether the key alarm battery is really flat. I'm pretty sure mine is - point it at the car, press, nothing. Then have to unlock car with key in lock and alarm goes off, put key in ignition, turn it to turn alarm off - so far, so obvious.

Thing is, key will then a few minutes later, after a short drive, work and turn alarm on/off remotely. But not consistently.

My question is whether this is just what batteries do unless they're completely flat, or if it could be something else. I think not, but as well to check.

I've ordered new batteries for the key and will changing them per the helpful posts elsewhere on here and I expect that will fix everything. Hoping if I get the new one(s) in quickly enough I won't need to re-program.

    Thank you in advance.
