  1. thanks for the replies. zmanalex thanks for your help, I got a pair of 'gates' as you advised me.

Sam you have sharp eye sight, lol. It was the right hand puley that was one groove out.

The problem was he didn't tighten it enough and it moved.

btw sam where can you see the damage? looks ok to me, I hardly did half a mile when I took this pic.

  2. ok the video didnt attach.

SO, ive had the fan belt and AC belt replaced and the engine does sound much quieter though that whistle is still there between 2-3k rpm. we got the car on the ramp and then tried accelerating in 3rd but mechanic said as the engine was not under load we would not be able to hear the sound and thats EXACTLY what happened. really annoying.

Anyway guys ive had a look at the belts when i got home, the AC belt seems like its not sitting right. can anyone confirm if that's the case?

It just looks like it sitting further away from the 'rim'.

    Thanks

  3. the trip computer isn't anywhere near accurate on mine, 90% of my driving is in town in rush hour and it says 27mpg yet when i work it out its 20mpg! I'm not bothered though, better than driving around in a focus/astra and getting 30+ mpg imo

  4. was heading south m5 j4 looked in my mirrors and thought WOW!! reg was v***jdm

looked absolutely stunning, lowered seemed to have an aftermarket body kit, a one off car, gave you the thumbs up.

best one I've seen so far

  5. oh hang on...I've taken it to a local mechanic (who used to work for nissan, dunno if that means anything) my initial description wasnt very accurate. you can't hear it in 1st or 2nd gear but more definitely 3rd and 4th it seems to come in at 2k rpm and the mechanic described it more like a WHISTLE. He said he couldn't put his finger on it but didn't sound like anything serious...

  6. Thans for the feedback guys. really appreciate it.

I got into this whole mess because my other car is a vw tdi and on that there is a "low oil warning light" so i assumed a 3.5 sports car would definitely have one. And secondly since ive had it the oil level on the dipstick has never changed. I just assumed I've got an engine that isnt as thirsty as some other zeds.

I'm not technically minded but would it be OTT to take the cam cover/head off to inspect any damage?

  7. Well, as i was planning an oil change ANYWAY i had ordered the oil filter etc.

With regards to the light as has been mentioned, only twice whilst doing a 3 point turn and going back and forth the red light flickered for about 2 seconds.

whilst starting it sounded rough. Its then that I clocked on!

So i did the oil change and it is fine, much smoother.

I'm just thinking am i likely to be seeing smoke in a few thousand miles or so?!

  8. I know guys im going to look really stupid but i feel sick since i realised!

Ive not had the car long and the oil level has always been on the mid mark. I was planning to do a bit of a road trip and do an oil change when returning.

However after completing over a thousand miles I checked the oil 2 weeks later(only having driven the car a few times in rush hour traffic) and saw that it wasn't low bit LOWER than low!!

I mean the was a drip on the curly bit at the bottom of the dipstick!!!

Just wanted to know or get some opinions on what damage i may have caused???

    Ive been depressed ever since.

    :fool:

  9. guys sorry to bring up an old thread.just wanted some advice.....is it better for performance (even if very little) to go for a k&n drop in filter on a 04 model with a standard box rather than the original Nissan? ?

    thanks

  10. Two of the pictures show that there's a tag on the keyring, the sort that dealers use to identify their stock.

    Pete

Well spotted Pete , Also has garage style paper mats on the floor...Its not far from me, so have emailed owner to pop over and have a look, will keep all informed...

Already found out, the engine has had water damage and he says he rebuilt it himself, he's not sure if its cat C or D.
