  1. So,having disconnected my battery to re-charge it after it went flat (me stupidly leaving lights on),I got the car running again, but, because I did not read the instructions in the drivers manual, I lost the "window drop".

So I went through the procedure in the manual and the driver side window now is OK but the passenger side has no "drop".

Which got me thinking...should the passenger one be the same as the driver side, because I've not had the car long so cannot remember if it was always like it is now.

On the other hand,if it is faulty, what do I do next?I've done a search and seen something about removing the door casing and doing a window re-set,is that next? Can anyone help?

  2. That looks great, but are there not some holes in the bumper where the number plate plinth was?

    Yes you are correct

So to get that look involves filling the holes and a repaint of the bumper...so anyone going for that look needs to price up that work...still,it does look good, especially with that grill.

  3. It's quite simple:

    Boxster v 350/370 covertible.

    Cayman v 350/370 coupe

In both cases, year for year, the Porsche is better,BUT it costs more to buy and maintain.

As with most things in life,YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

However, the Nissan is still a great car and the converse of the above is that any given amout buys you a newer Nissan than a Porsche, which has theoretical advantages.

It also depends what price range you are in...if you have £10k then I'd have the Nissan because a Porsche would be rather old,but at £30k I'd take a recent Porsche rather than a new Nissan.

    ...Wait a minute,I've just confused myself :)

  4. no way is an £8k S15 better than an £8k Z!!!

Different markets. The S15 is in enthusiast/2nd car territory, will hold its value and be far cheaper to run/modify/drift.

You have to spend an astronomical amount to add 150bhp and mod the suspension on a Z.

Well said that man, having tried both theres not a lot between them - the Zed is better out of the box but throw £2000 at an S15 and youll have a 400hp track monster.

And rear seats, and decent fuel economy, cheaper parts, more styling options, more technical support ........ theyve got a lot going for them.

The S14/15 (and I have owned one!)was a design 10 years or more older than the 350z,and it shows, not a chance of me going back to one...not that I could go back to a UK S14,I think they have all rotted away now... ;)

I'm not concerned with modded cars, just comparing standard road cars.

  5. There were/are plenty of S14 enthusiasts in the UK and many of these will see getting an S15 as a logical progression, but,as stated, there arn't that many S15 imports, so the price rises.

Which illustrates how blinkered some car fans are because, now that Z prices have come down,no way is an £8k S15 better than an £8k Z!!!

  6. IIRC the 300zx brakes are only the same size as the 200sx,except that the calipers themselves are alloy instead of iron for better heat dissipation...so not really that good by modern standards and if your JDM non-brembo use bigger discs than the 300zxones,which I suspect they do,then they should be better.

IMHO better to fit new discs and top quality uprated pads to your existing set up if you can't afford to get Brembos.

  7. Interesting to read that there's knock control up to 4800rpm....if you read your handbook in the section about setting the rev limit light you will read the suggestion that you can set it at 4800 revs to maximise the use of the engines torque,so I've got mine at this setting.

I would guess that changing up at about about 5000 revs when in a hurry as opposed to thrashing it into the red won't actually make that much difference to acceleration times...anyway,that's my policy and if it's helping to preserve my engine so much the better....and of course,on that special occasion, you can always ignore that light ;)

  8. A few weeks on...

Front under-tray and wheel arch liners were a bit loose and there were missing fittings,BUT now sorted and secured and NO,noise still there

Next, found that air filter housing was not secure so was knocking against engine. This was removed and underneath it has two pegs that seat down into holes in the chassis...the problem was that the two holes were missing their rubber grommets so that the housing pegs could not hold it steady and stop it rattling (thanks a lot previous so called Nissan technician  )...so suitable grommets were found then the housing refitted.

Partial success :) noises had definitely reduced and no noise any longer from front of car but ,sadly, still noise from back.

Have had one good look underneath but can find nothing obviously loose or worn (e.g. drop links).

    So,the search continues!!!...I'll report back.

  9. Are you claiming on an otherwise unwarrantied car just as the car should not have corrosion when so new? Or do you have a warranty with third party?

Sorry for asking: This sounds like a "common topic": But I'm new to these parts :yahoo:

UK Zeds have a NISSAN 12 year anti-corrosion warranty...but maufacturers will do their utmost to use the small print to avoid paying claims.

It's fairly obvious to me that the lips of both the front and rear wings are vulnerable, so you need to keep the insides free of dirt and mud and keep applying waxoyl or similar at regular intervals.

  10. I have them and they are fine. Never seen the OEM so I cant compare.

Just follow the instructions for cleaning as some people have had them come off.

I formed mine into curves before removing the backing paper so they wont try to curl off when warm.

This takes a few attempts to get them exact but is worth it IMO.

Just keep offering them up and bending gently until they are the exact shape and then stick down.

    Ok,good, I think I'll get them.

  11. I think that you will find that the US ones are only inserts. ;)

    Alex. :)

Ok..well,maybe.However the picture looks identical to the ones in my Nissan uk accessories brochure dated August 03.

Perhaps you could get in touch with this supplier,Alex?

At this price it could be worth a group buy.

Does it not say insert in the US listing?

And is the picture not of them fitted?

It says "w/aluminum inserts" which I take to mean "with aluminum inserts",in other words the plastic guards complete with and including the ali bits...and whether they are inserts or not or isn't this the same thing from Nissan UK?

And what about this US source:
