  1. Car had got to that stage of its life where a few things needed replacing, nothing out of the ordinary but decide to take the hit in one go - well over a couple of weeks. Whilst my wallet is somewhat lighter, I am really pleased with how she now feels and sounds, not quite a new car but much smoother and hopefully some trouble/cost free motoring now ahead..! Thought it was worth breaking these costs down (parts and labour) as it covers quite a few common issues that come from normal wear and tear and may be of interest to some... ITEM: P2 Service Cost: £159 Where: Chorley Nissan - Wigan ITEM: MOT Cost: £29 Where: Chorley Nissan - Wigan Comments: I am on the Wirral but made the trip over following positive comments on here and happy the with service and costs. 12 months RAC cover thrown in too! ITEM: Full Set of Falken FK452 Parts: £440 (Camskills) Fitting: £50 (Chorley Nissan) Comments: Had mixed tyres before and rears were due so went for the full matching set The two fronts (Toyo T1R's) have good life left in them if anyone is interested.... http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=63605 ITEM: Scorpion Cat Back Exhaust Parts: £370 (CougarStore ) Fitting: £40 (Local Independent) Comments: Stock Exhaust started blowing, normal failure between mid and back box) Really liking the Scorpion after struggling to choose between this and the Cobra but happy with choice. Really nice exhaust note, slightly louder than stock but not overbearing. Have kept the Stock tips if anyone is interested as I know most people like to keep the Stock look if possible...see same post as tyres above... ITEM: New Iridium Spark Plugs Parts: £55 (ZMANALEX ) Fitting: £60 (Chorley Nissan) Comments: Not an essential but recommended for the car at 54k so through it was worth it. Hopefully will run a bit smoother and maybe even eek out a little bit in mpg ITEM: Front Drop Links Parts: £32 (Ebay) Fitting: £40 (Local Independent) Comments: The annoying nocking from the front has now gone! The parts aren't Nissan but again from reading on here, no point paying any extra for this particular part) ITEM: Rears Pads Parts £40, Fitting £40 from Chorley Nissan at same time as Service/MOT TOTAL: £1350!! Dammit, just remembered insurance is due next month...
  2. Just treated the car to four brand new tyres and also a new Scorpion exhaust although the stuff I took off has some good life in them yet... for info its a 56 plate GT with 55k on the clock TYRES When i bought my car she weirdly had 3 Toyo T1R tyres (fitted after 40k miles) and one Bridgestone RE040 - previous owner was female! ( ) The rears were due replacement (especially the older RE040) and so rather than mix my tyres I have got four new FK452's all round. So we have... 2 x 225/45/R18 Toyo Proxes T1R tyres that have that have typically 4mm tread left - probably 5mm in the middle and if I was being really picky, touching 3mm on the inner side. No puncture repairs and a good deal of life left in them. These are tricky to get hold of now so good if anyone wants to keep using these highly rated tyres. Was £80 for pair collected or £100 delivered Now £60 for pair, £80 collected. 1 x 245/45/R18 Toyo Proxes T1R that has 3mm of tread left, again maybe touching 2.5mm on the inner side No puncture repairs and hopefully good for someone whip is still running these make of tyre.. £20 collected £35 delivered STOCK TIPS Finally, my OEM Stock exhaust started blowing recently (typical failure between mid and rear sections) and replaced it with a Scorpion cat back (courtesy of Cougar Store) I know many fitting aftermarket exhausts but prefer the look of the Stock Tips, so I still have the back box and have polished up the tips. I think a few on here have taken the similar tips off and then fitted them to their new exhausts to keep get the better sound but keep the look of the stock Tips... Can be collected or I can take the tips off and stick them in the post (+£10) Willing to take offers on these.. Any questions or more pics let me know...
  3. Hi all, Returned to the car after work today to notice that some numpty had scratched the rear windscreen. Not sure what they used and they have tried to spell something but can't make it out. The scratches aren't mega deep but you can see them and can feel them just about when you run your finger over them. Anyone had any recent experience in getting rear windscreen glass scratched removed? I could go down insurance route but that's £80 excess and was hoping there would be some product out there that was worth a try. See glass t cut mentioned but reviews seem to be very mixed... B@stard kids.
  4. Another big shout out to the guys at Cougar Store. Supplied me a shiny new Scorpion exhaust which I have just had fitted today and very happy with. They were massively helpful all through the process, from initial selection (the old Cobra vs Scorpion dilemma!), keeping me informed of the delivery date and then today when the independent garage that fitted it had a minor issue with a bracket causing a little obstruction but dealt with quickly and professionally at all stages. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend, hope your father in law gets better soon. Cheers
  5. Thanks guys. Yep, is post facelift and has the rubbery paint. Not too bothered about keeping the rubbery stuff but ideally wanting good match colour/looks wise. You did a good job jinxy. Think will give the repainting a go, nothing to lose. Nice Sunday job... Been looking to find out how to remove the trim but can only find jinxys photos for the pre facelift. Anyone give any pointers, can't see any obvious screws ...
  6. Hi all, Giving her a service, mot, new plugs, new exhaust in the next couple of weeks but also making a bit of an effort to sort out those little imperfections that I always mean to get round to but never do, i.e. couple of minor dinks One tatty bit that I have glossed over since I got her a year ago is the drivers side door trim around the handle and window buttons. It's pretty scratched as u can see by te picture... Any suggestions how to repair or replace...? It's a 56 296 gt coupe.

  8. Hi, what tyres do you have on them? And whereabouts are u located ?
  9. nothing much more to add really...! Had my zed for a couple of months and knew when I bought it the front pads would need replacing asi came up as an advisory on the mot. Only going to use car for normal road use but Think have narrowed down the front pads to either ferrodo ds2500 of ebb yellowstuff. But not knowing what's on the rear I am wondering whether it's better to replace both front and rear at the same? Does it matter?
  10. thanks for the replies so far... the horn works fine as do the controls on thr right hand side of the wheel (cruise control) - its just the seek/volume stereo controls that do not work... any further help on how to diagnose or resolve the issues would be appreciated.
  11. What is a squib?! Would ideally like to get back the use of the controls on the steering wheel. Not sure wha the benefit is of replacing the wheel with controls that doesn't work with a different wheel with no controls on it?!
  12. had my car for about a month now and all is good apart from the fact that the volume and seek controls on the left hand side of the wheel do not work. Correction, they work but intermittently, it seems that when I have the steering wheel turned one way or the other the controls seem to work but driving straight the dont. Would appear to be a loose connection but not sure where to start to get it fixed....any suggestions?
  13. Funnily enough I actually sent the seller an email a couple of days ago asking for a bit more info - don't worry, not interested in buying it but just given I bought the same model/year/mileage car a few weeks back so naturally curious as to whether I got a good deal on mine..! If it helps the extra info I got wad that the car was the following.... 'The last service was 12th Jan 2011. It is due for MOT by August 17th this year, and is taxed until end of September. The rear tyres are good, the front tyres could do with replacing soon. Bodywork is very good, one scratch on back bumper which has been touched up well. A couple of other small marks but fantastic condition for the age. This car has been owned by my brother since new and he's really cared for it well.' Seems a decent buy but obviously you would need to see it. The Sat nav is a bonus. I reckonj £9k for a 56 plate having done 50k is an excellent buy and the cheapest I have seen for this age/mileage. I got mine for £9k also a few weeks back and am well happy with that having seen what else is around... Do it!!
  14. just got myself my first zed but it's missing the mats.... Could get a new set from the stealers but hoping to com up trumps on here...
  15. Well, I picked her up on Friday and very happy with the purchase, coming from a TT 2.0T its not a massive step up in acceleration but the looks, handling and that noise makes it so much more enjoyable. Obviously the weather has been pants this weekend so had to be a bit cautious and it will take a bit of time to get used to the power delivery and cornering potential but its just a nice car to drive full stop. Just spent today taking different members of my family out for a little blast! I am not sure how long I will own her but I know I will enjoy it..! It's a 56 plate 50k mile GT spec car and so far everything seems to be in order, I have spent any time not in the car reading this forum for hints and tips. I do have a couple of queries, apologies if these are posted elsewhere but its always good to get a specific answer to your own questions... a) TYRES - I have read the tyres posts and especially the one around not mixing tyres but... all four tyres I have have got a decent amount of life in them however I have found that the two fronts are Toyo Proxes TXR's as is ONE of the rears, the other rear tyre is a Bridgestone RE040. So... whats my options... I dont plan to drive the car to the limit nor do track days (atleast not now!) but should I eb chnaging the tyres and if so how ? can I live with the current set up until new ones are due ? or should i replace the one BStone to give a full set of Toyos ? But then they would all have different life in them ? Any decent place (other than keeping eyes out on ebay) for Silver Door sills and genuine Car mats ? c) Going to get back in touch with owner but i haven't got a maintenance manual (have the service book but not the one with all the instructions) - where can I get hold of one ? d) how do I connect my phone, I have tried the standard 'find devices' from my phone but can't seem to get it to work ? Again, sorry if these are elsewhere...thanks all...
  16. thanks all for the posts so far. I have got hold of further information from the sller thats allowed me to check the car details, VIN number etc and used mycarcheck to check things out a bit further all stacks up. Also spoke to the two garages that have performed all the services and again everything ok, garages were v good actually and gave details of when tyres/brakes were replaced. Also got hold of current keeper to try and understand why its being sold only 6 months after it ws bought and why only 1k miles since. Got through to the chap and it was his sons car but he lost his job after 2 months of owning it so had to sell it at auction. He also confirmed it wsnt damaged other than one scratch on rear arch which again sdtacks up with what the guy said in terms of work he had done. So everything looks to stack up and am pleased i've gone to trouble of digging around. Sure, it might still have mechanical issues or maintenance needed in the near future but atleast nothing sinister. As a result I have just paid the deposit, it's being MOT'd tomorrow and I'm picking her up at the weekend - smiling already! cheers!
  17. Hi all, Just joined the forum after having spent hours on this site researching my upcoming purchase. It's a great site, with loads of useful info a lot of clued up people, sure it will come in useful once a have completed the purchase. I currently drive a TT as a company car but after a role change the miles are quite low so I've decided to send the car back and instead get a proper drivers car that I can use for unbridled fun at the weekends. I have definately decided the Z is for me! Anyway after weeks of research and hunting I am on the verge of making a purchase but given my relative lack of knowledge it would be great to get some advice from anyone. Mu budget is around £10k and so been looking at 04-06 cars but would prefer a MY06 car, I think the extra £200 a year tax is worth it for the upgraded spec. I viewed a car at the weekend and I'm hoping its one the one for me. Its a 56 plate GT and it looks great. Its done 50k miles, has a full service history (although no receipts) and the guy said he would put 12m MOT on it. (Its a trade guy but he deals in small numbers on the side and works out of his home which is where I viewed the car). It drives well and whilst I'm no mechanic I couldnt see any obvious issues, I have verbally agreed a price with a view to picking up at the weekend. But theres a couple of things nagging at me... 1. It was last serviced in Jan this year with 49k on the clock. It was taken as a part ex from the original owner (I spoke to the garage) who sold it on to another private buyer. Six months later and its for sale again and with only an extra 1000 miles on the clock. Does this seem strange. The guy said he bought if from the trade and the second owner must have traded it in. I have just mailed the guy to try and get the current registered keeper address and thinking I could call to find out what he had done with it between Jan and Jun and why only 1k miles. 2. The guy has a HPI certificate and I have also just done my own and its all clear - I have asked for the VIN number aswell to get this checked. Is there anything else I can do to get more reassurance ? 3. We have agreed a price of £9100 which after all my research seems a great price - thoughts ? Buy if anything its adding to my doubt..my dad always said 'if it seems too good to be true it probably is!' Just worried that something sinister has happened between Jan and Jun that would explain the quick resale and low mileage...accident ? ragged as a track car ?! Am I being overly suspicious ? Really want the car, just dont want to get stung. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated and thanks for all the info so far!
