  1. Just want to say this works a treat - BUT make sure keyfob batteries are new (need battery type CR2016)

I tried this 20+ times (with old batteries) and got frustrated as it didn't work - got to activate registration mode, but not the keyfob bit......

Replaced batteries - tried again - worked first time - RESULT.

    Cheers M13KYF

    :)

  2. Dear All

Thanks for all your help/advice. Managed to get it sorted. Got the right part from a breaker via 247spares.co.uk, where you list the part you want then breakers get back in contact with you if they have it.

I got replies from 4 or 5 breakers, made sure the bit I ordered was from an 06 reg UK spec car (and they said they'd sort out refund etc. if it was wrong part as it didn't have same part number as I was told it was) and it all worked. Quick delivery and MOT all done and dusted now.

Cheers again guys - great help from a great forum

    Have a good weekend y'all

  3. Cheers Headphones - I'll be careful with what I twiddle with then ;)

Alex has helped trying to explain to numpty me that the part number I was quoted wasn't the cable but a different bit - he's been a great help so far....

Hopefully I can clear up what is actually needed and get it in time.......otherwise the car might have to be off the road for a few weeks

  4. Thanks for replies guys.....have tried the reset....didn't work.......my dealer doesn't have it unfortunately......

Will PM you guys - thanks again.

    Gareth

p.s. I thought Zmanalex was no longer a dealer - I used him a few years ago and he was great on a few parts, tried him more recently and he said he'd moved on - is he back doing Zed stuff again ??

  5. Airbag warning light started flashing a while ago, following recent pre-MOT visit to dealers, they say the spiral cable is faulty.

Unfortunately nthis will take at least until the end of the month to ship from Japan as they and any associated dealers do not have the part in stock.

Bugger - my MOT is in 2 weeks time....

It is original part number NB5567CF42E

Any ideas where I can get another one ?

I've tried ebay and get this sort of thing :-

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25567-ET025-For-Nissan-350Z-Versa-Xterra-Murano-Airbag-Spiral-Cable-Clock-Spring-/151847456038?fits=Car+Make%3ANissan%7CModel%3A350+Z&hash=item235ad04d26:g:l~cAAOSw9mFWHM-e

Is this right ?? But it takes ages to ship too......

Have tried a parts-finder and got a few answers, all at £90+

Any thoughts anyone ?? Any help is much appreciated as not sure exactly what I'm looking for to be honest...

  6. Last gig - Whitesnake (dissappointing - Coverdale just getting a bit too old now and not realising it !!). Upcoming gigs of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden hopefully will be a lot better. Also saw Roger Waters The Wall at O2 Arena London earlier this year which was extremely good.

Last album - Coverdale + Page - by Coverdale and Page no less !!! Haven't listened to it yet but hopefully should be OK

  7. Went to the TT in 1994 and it's amazing seeing these guys going 150+ mph when you're on one side of a dry stone wall and they're the other side of it only 10 feet or so away from you, on normal roads with lamposts, walls, kerbs, trees etc.

Absolute crazies but true racing heroes !!!!

  8. Definitely worth seeing.

Never much of a Guy Martin fan before, but he is hilarious in this - such an oddball  , but likeable with it

Some of the 3D stuff really works, some of it doesn't - but the overall coverage is very good - with previously unseen footage (at least not shown on on BBC and all that) with some of the horrendous crashes (I know, not a nice thing to highlight, but it shows what these guys put up with - absolute nutters !!!! ).

Definitely a must see if you've any interest in biking or the TT

  9. Live with it and do nothing.

I have exactly the same situation - various cars keyed etc. and I've been run over in the street and I performed a "citizen's arrest" on someone else damaging my car

    The choices are:

    1 - Do nothing.

2 - Rent a garage for £60 a month, £720 pa. None available at present.

3 - Move house - £40,000 cost at least to get a similar house near me in a good road with a garage.

This isn't a Ferrari forum. We own pretty cheap Jap cars with easily available cheap parts and repairs. The money you save on not doing anything you can spend IF something happens to your car.

Surely it's worth trying out a few deterrant type actions to at least try and minimise the problem ?

Why should we put up with it even if we don't own ferrari level cars - it's still out of order, no matter how much the car costs !!!

one thing I would say is never post about in on a public forum

All I wanted was reasonable advice on practical deterrant type actions I can take, I don't intend any retribution action as I think this is something that could easily spiral out of control and potentially lead to worse problems.

Hence I don't really see any problems posting this on a public forum.

Other Z owners must have come across this before and I would just appreciate any reasonable advice as they might come up with something I might not have thought of so far.

Anyway, appreciate any advice given - thanks guys

  10. Like a few people I've read on here, my 350Z has been the victim of mindless petty vandalism from time to time, presumably by drunken mindelss yobs or thieving little oiks

I've had my wing mirror snapped off twice, countless sets of tyre valve caps nicked and now 3 of the badges stolen (complete with screwdriver/penknife gouges where they prised the badges off) just a couple of nights ago.

Unfortunately I don't have a driveway so have to park my car on the road outside the back of my house. It's relatively quiet most of the time but is also quite a regular shortcut through to a housing estate nearby for people returning in the late/early hours after pubbing/clubbing in town. I do park as near to my house and as near as possible to a street light too.

I am now going to install a motion detecting security light shining from my back fence onto the area I usually park my car in to try and put some people off.

Advice I had from police/community officer is that CCTV is uselss unless you actually know who it is and it can then be used to confirm a suspect. But it's not good or clear enough if you don't have an idea who it is (also it's pretty expensive !!!). So not much use really. But might think about a dummy camera maybe ?

Police suggested parking somewhere else (why should I park somewhere away from my house and then I would worry about it more anyway) or a cover (which I personally think would attract more unwanted attention than help - also might scratch car with continued use - also a pain in the 'arris).

Just wondered if anyone has any good reasonable ideas to try and avoid or minimise these petty vandalism problems.

I am also aware that confronting the people doing this, if (and that's a big if) I could actually catch them at it, may actually make things worse and it could snowball into more dangerous acts (letting down/punturing tyres) or worse vandalism (keying paintwork, smashing windows etc.) or could also escalate into damage to my house as they know where I live, but I won't necessarily actually find out who they are or where they live. Giving them a good clip round the lughole may make me feel better in the short run but could lead to a lot worse given the way people are these days !!!

So any useful, reasonable deterrant type ideas would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

  11. Wanted - wing OEM Z badge (due to some thieving little oik helping himself to 3 of my 5 badges with the help of a screwdriver  - managed to get other badges from fleabay but can't find this one).

Just like this image :- Nissan 350Z front Wing Badge and Repeater

Anyone got one or know where I can get one for a decent price ?

    Cheers for any help

    ***** ALL SORTED *****

Big thanks  to Bullet for more or less giving me his spare badge.

You're a star mate :#1: and I really do like this forum !! Great stuff :teeth:

  12. Direct Line has always been there or thereabouts for all my cars so far (all have been some sort of sporting pedigree after the obligatory first shed).

Worth spending an evening putting details into a variety of online quotes - try as many as you can, from the bigger, well known lot, to Tescos etc. and also the go-compare type quotes (never proved to be cheap for me). It seems to change year by year who is the cheapest, but also be aware that bigger companies are more likely to have better cover in the small print etc.

Postcode also has a bigger effect than you might think - makes sense, the more cars nicked in your local area the worse it's going to be.

One strange thing happened last year - a quote I got for fully comp was actually cheaper than 3rd Party Fire and Theft (with everything else the same). This was explained by the insurer that it's purely down to statistics. More people with 3rd Party Fire and Theft cover claimed, so therefore the statistics say they are a worse risk and hence the premium rose for 3rd Party Fire and Theft and fully comp stayed as it was. WEIRD !!!

  13. Have had a bike for last 23 years or so since being a nipper of 19.

Current bike is X reg GSXR-600 in Corona colours (with matching leathers....yeah...sad I know !!! But I like 'em B) )

Have had a 350z for about 8 months now (200sx before).

    It's great fun....... :D

......but the bike is still a bigger buzz :teeth: (as long as it's dry and warm !!!! I'm getting older now.....)

But injured fingers on clutch hand mean I can't currrently ride in this great weather

If you think sports cars are a buzz, you should really give biking a go....trust me, you'll be hooked !!!

  14. Nothing wrong with Saxon mate !!! :band::band::band::band:

And those that are missing out on Motorcycle Man, Dallas 1 pm, Wheels of Steel, etc. just don't know what they're missing.

Saw them several times back in the day (20 years ago or so).

Even was backstage at one of their gigs (thanks to a mate who was an ex-roadie etc.).

Also have seen them morerecently (and doesn't Biff look so old now ??!! :wheelchair: ).

Saw them a couple of years back supporting Motorhead and also a couple of times in the last few years at Hard Rock Hell (wonderful indoor festival with loads of old metal bands and some newer ones held in the rather dubious location of Prestatyn Pontins Holiday Camp in December - been going four years now and is absolutely brilliant - go to hardrockhell.com for info).

Gold old honest no frills heavy metal - great stuff.

Good to see someone else actually knows what NWOBHM means too.......

  15. Hi All - Hope someone can help with a bit of advice....

Just took my 06 350z to local Nissan dealer (quite happy with them - they serviced my previous 200sx for 4 or 5 years with decent prices and service) for a P1 service + plugs + AirCon service.

So having spent just over £500 for this, they then advised me of the following :-

    - front lower suspension arm bushes debonding - parts ~ £700

    - offside rear anti roll bar link - part ~ £28

Altogether with labour ~ £1000 which ended up with a big GULP from me. :scare:

Apparently the bushes need doing within next couple of months......

Any advice on either second opinion, whether cost is reasonable, what happens if I don't do it , etc. etc.

    Any advice helpfully received.

    Thanks

    Grumpy

  16. All sorted thanks to ZMANALEX.

Found wing mirror broken at 8-30 Mon morning. Received replacement at 12-00 Tuesday midday - also costing half the price of local Nissan dealers.

Can't get much better than that !!! :#1:

Just hope this one doesn't get broken off.......

  17. I was thinking of a cover, but then thought this would probably just draw attention and probably encourage more petty vandalism.

Don't know who the oik is, or even if it is the same oik. The road it's parked on (don't have driveway) outside the back of my house is a convenient cut through for all the pikey's in a housing estate behind me, so just get regular groups of drunken lot wandering through after a night out in down town Basingstoke.

    CCTV is definitely a thought.......

Hooray for nice people like ZMANALEX.

PM reply recieved, one in stock - just need to sort out payment and all sorted.

Now just need to buy a nice large rottweiler to chain to the car to rip these sort of scum to pieces !! Anyone got one I can borrow for a while ??

Thanks again ZMANALEX and this is such a good forum. :#1:
