  1. Congratulations. Does it have a little white dot out of the bonnet paint on the front leftish?

Yeah, took those photo's a couple days after i bought it. That white dot is a bit of poop. I have some more I'll upload later that i took a couple of weeks ago after spending the day cleaning and polishing it.

  2. go to another nissan dealer. The current one is feeding you BS.

Unless your car is under warranty, why the hell would anyone take their 350 to a dealer? There is nothing like a good independent for quality service and workmanship for more reasonable money.

I have warranty until Feb 2011, there is no way on earth I'd use any of the main dealers if there wasn't any chance of the warranty being affected. when the brakes wear out and any other things that need fixing I'm going to sneak it to an independent and just keep up the servicing with the main dealer till the warranty runs out.

  3. :welcome:

    shame about the colour :p

i had clutch issues when i got mine, had a new clutch in after 4 weeks of ownership

you should be able to find plenty threads about clutch issues though

Lol, best colour in my opinion. I had the option of buying the grey one but the wheel arches appear more flared in silver and i looked better (too me anyway).

There are so many clutch issues with the Z that I'm still reading. My issue is that the clutch has a weird judder sometimes. It's a bit random and happens when I'm pulling away in 1st gear or stuck in traffic. Sometimes it's so bad the car is virtually undriveable. Recently I've noticed a whirring sound. In neutral if I dip the clutch pedal the car is quiet, when I raise the pedal (still in neutral) the whirring noise is apparent. A few days ago i noticed a squeak as I was in 6th. I was too lazy to drop a few gears as I approached a 30 and left it in 6th, the car pulls fine so it's never been a problem. When I was leaving the 30th I pulled away and noticed a squeak that stopped at 35mph. Since noticing that I've now noted a squeak when I pull away on a cold morning in 1st and 2nd gears. I think it might be the clutch and can hopefully invoke the warranty to get a replacement if it fails.

  4. where are you based Tay, perhaps we can recommend a independent that could give you a second opinion which you can take back to Nissan GB and the Dealer.. May be its worth getting the AA or the RAC out to inspect and charge Nissan for it. I would notify Nissan first before incurring any additional charges that you may be out of pocket if you wish to be reimbursed

I'm in Somerset. I'd appreciate the details of an independent specialist in the area. I used to own a golf and always used the VW specialist in bradford-on-avon and never had a problem.

I wish i'd taken photos and the serial number of the pads that are fitted so I could show you what they look like. I've had a browse online and have found what looks to be the part fitted. The issue is that the cutouts on the pads fitted are rectangular and the pins in the brembo calliper are round. The pads move and is whats causing the clunk when i reverse and then again if i move forward. If I don't ever reverse again then there will never be a clunk... :)

In other searches I've found brembo pads for the Z with circular cutouts that match the pins in the calliper. I think I will be buying my own pads from brembo for the Z when these ones wear out as the dealer doesn't appear to want or be able to sort the issue.

  5. Thanks for the replies.

Both the local dealer and the dealer where I bought the car have removed and re-fitted the pads.

I've been onto Nissan GB and told them the advice that the dealer gave me yesterday.

Quote dealer (not word for word) "These are original Brembo pads for the 350z and are race spec. There is an expansion gap to allow for the brakes heating up, if you don't want to hear the clunk you can either keep your brakes hot or turn the stereo up."

Quote me. "That doesn't sound right, if I keep the brakes hot then I'm going to be replacing pads and disks every few thousand miles?"

Quote dealer (not word for word) "There is nothing we can do about the clunk as the correct part is fitted"

Nissan GB are pretty helpful, the bloke I've been dealing with said the dealer is feeding a line and rather than guessing that they're the correct part they've told the dealer to speak to nissan hi-tech about the issue and to ask them to make sure that the correct part has been used.

I asked for the details and was told it's a dealer only service so have to wait for the dealer to get back to me.

  6. Thanks for the Welcome messages

attached a a few pictures. GT spec silver Z.

I've posted an issue about the brakes as I couldn't see a similar one and am looking through the posts about clutch issues before I post about the issue I have.

  7. Hi, I noticed a brake pad clunk a while ago. It usually happens when i reverse.

On a full lock they will clunk and if i tap the brake when reversing they will clunk. The local nissan dealer says i have non genuine pads fitted and should replace them. I took the car back to the dealer where i bought the car and they say genuine ones are fitted. I'm told there is an expansion gap to allow for the brakes when hot for the pin and the clunk won't happen when the brakes are hot. The pin for the brembo brakes is round and cut out for the pad is rectangular. They've showed me some brembo pads that are the same as the ones fitted to the car.

Nissan GB say it doesn't sound right that the brakes should clunk and have told the dealer to speak to Nissan Hi-Tech. I've just joined today and would like a third opinion from other z owners.

    Thanks.
