  1. I couldn't really get a witness who would have seen the whole thing unfortunately. I'm hoping she's stupid enough to explain that I flashed the car in front and not her (to me that should be an open and closed case). I also remember from driving lessons when I was 17 that flashing wasn't allowed, but hey we all do it. I even flashed a copper the other day to let him out. My excess is 750 and I don't see how I should be 350 quid out of pocket as she thinks she can nip out in front of me.
  2. Great day today - had car booked in for 1st MOT and service today and I couldn't find the paper part of license to get use of a courtesy car so I thought I'll head into office and wangle a lift off someone. So I left my house and headed down to my folks. As I drive down the road to the square in Inverurie there is some traffic at the lights, not stopped, and cars are waiting to cross my lane to head out to Oldmeldrum. So as I get closer I flash a car to let him go, then I carried on moving forwards and suddenly the next car hesitates and then decides it’s going to go as well and cuts right in front of me and bashes into me. We pulled into the side of the road and I got out and asked her why she was cutting in front of me – she said that I flashed the car in front, which I did and it didn’t mean her – secondly the speed she did it at she knew I wasn’t going to let her go. I was pretty angry as you can imagine and then she tells me this is her 2nd accident this week – I made a comment about driving like that I’m not surprised. So my morning has been spent getting my car to the garage and being on the phone to my insurance. To me she hasn’t got a leg to stand on – I didn’t acknowledge her and she’s cut across my path. My front bumper has a hole in it (not big) and has been scuffed (the bumper will need replacing) and one of the headlights is slightly scuffed. Her car was a bit more of a mess with one of the back doors panned in – although as I explained to the insurance when she said she had already had an accident this week I wasn’t sure if it was all damage from our collision. My excess is 750 note and she better bloody take responsibility for this. Knowing the hassle my mum had when someone ran into her I’m expecting this one to also be a long drawn out affair. All I’m concerned about it not having to lose 750 quid and have my premium go up because of this. Insurance gave me the option to wait for 30 days to see if they take responsibility, which is fine for me, but I'd like it sorted ASAP obviously. Any advice/tips chaps?
  3. Fantastic post - read 3 pages of the Prison Diary and that's VERY sobering reading. I'm away for a long drive this afternoon and I must admit this has really hit home. I can relate to a certain extent as in my younger days I was involved in a collision that was 100% my fault - luckily the Procurator Fiscal realised I wasn't a total idiot and gave me 11 points. Since that day I've never had anything resembling an accident - I guess some of us need to learn the hard way.
  4. thanks guys - hasn't happened again since posting - can't see anything obvious so fingers crossed
  5. Hi Guys I have an 08 plate Zed and I've noticed before that when I start the car sometimes and go to move it seems to be "stuck" and it seems to be coming from the front wheels. My car is garaged and it's sat in there for a couple of days. Got in it today to go down to the shops and it was SUPER stuck - so much so I was worried about using the accelerator to pull it off whatever keeps sticking. It did come free and drove away fine, but this is the hardest it's ever stuck before. I've left the car in gear and handbrake off - although I'm guessing the handbrake only locks back wheels? The car is still under warranty and is due a service next month. I'm planning a big road trip this summer so I'd prefer to get this seen to as soon as possible. Any ideas chaps?
  6. Aye it's a shame you have to sell the Zed - my fav picture is outside Elland Road!
  7. This is why I knew it was wise to ask you guys - just had a look and I think Hull -Zeebrugge is a MUCH better idea than driving down to Dover and heading back North again. Just had a quick look at prices for Ferry and really happy that a single journey with 2 passengers and car is about £170, which I think is very reasonable!
  8. Hi Guys Looking for a bit of advice about a possible road trip this summer in the Zed. Me and a mate are thinking about a bit of a tour of Europe. I'm up in Sunny Aberdeen and he lives in Edinburgh, so the logical first step is to drive down and get a ferry/channel tunnel across to France and take it from there. I guess we want the trip to be about a week or so long and I don't want it to be Gumball rally 12 hours a day driving - wouldn't mind seeing some sites and spending time in places along the way. This is the first plan I've come up with.... Aberdeen Edinburgh.... (stay overnight) Brugge - - (stay overnight) 10hrs 40mins Eindhoven - - (possible overnight) 2hrs 15mins Nürburgring - - (possible overnight) 2hrs 25mins Luxemborg - - (possible overnight) 1hr 55mins Paris - - (possible overnight) 4hrs 5mins London- - (possible overnight) 5hrs 30mins Edinburgh (overnight) 7hrs 20mins Aberdeen Any comments/suggestions/tips gratefully received.
  9. bloody Nora - what on Earth were you doing with a system like that? I'm guessing it was high end Graphics Stuff or soemthing? I'm a system admin for an oil company and even our VMWare ESX nodes only have 24GB of RAM and they host 4 servers per node! Wowzers
  10. Happy Birthday Loon - hope you have a great day
  11. I would have no problem with them earning their fat cat salaries IF they produced results - I would have top brass within the public sector on performance related pay. My problem with public sector is accountability - nobody is ever held accountable for wasting taxpayers money - if a private profit making company had a manager that lost millions as he/she was a idiot they would be sacked and quite likely not be able to work in the industry again. But at public sector level it's all just pushed under the carpet as there are no shareholders that expect a return. Without a private secotr (profit driven) there would be no public sector.
  12. Slightly back on-topic I decided to come home to Aberdeen today (as I refuse to pay 9quid for parking at my mates tomorrow). Having a look at the parking meter there is a bit where they say they recognise Xmas day, Boxing Day, New Years Day and Easter Monday as public holidays - although this text hardly jumps out at you. I reckon I've got no chance of appealing the penalty, but I will try. Total revenue generation - thanks Edinburgh council. Back off topic - I have a friend who is a male nurse (no pay rise for past 3 years) and works in a ward with children that have cancer. I'm guessing if your child was in his ward you would deem his job to be pretty important. I also have another friend who is a teacher and tells me the modern day education system is very flawed and not the best way to teach children. I won't go on and on - but all your primary school testing is rigged in such a way that children and schools are the real losers in this scenario. Now I believe health care and education to be REALLY high on a list of public sector jobs that shouldn't be cut - along with police and other emergency services. However I'm not sure how many people watched Channel 4's "Britain's Trillion Pound Horror Story" - http://www.channel4.com/programmes/brit ... rror-story - I don't remember the exact figure but there is something like 7 million public sector empoyees - - out of which 2 million are teachers, emergency services, etc - which leaves about 5 million leftover?? Hmmm who are these people and what do they do? The programme was VERY pro capitalist, but it had a lot of top economists and suggests the way to get out of the myre we're in is to cut public sector wastage and lower VAT and taxes to encourage entrepreneurship (as the rewards are worthwhile if we have better taxation laws). People are of the belief that ALL public sector employees provide essential services - I'm afraid I think this is the wool that's pulled over our eyes.
  13. Maybe this lady was a council worker trying to get to the office? The music makes the clip!
  14. Cheers for the link Stew - - I've posted and asked for their advice. I also worked for Aberdeen Leisure during the summer when I was a student. They were sub contracted by the council to run the swimming pools, ice rink, bowling greens, tennis courts and putting facilites round Aberdeen. I intially started off collecting the money from these sites and taking it to the banks - it was an 8 hour shift, but took about 90mins to do the job (and there were 3 of us doing the same job). In the final year of doing this I manned several bowling greens - bear in mind on public holidays I often made double/triple time (sometimes making 14 quid an hour) meanwhile you would be lucky if the days taking for the bowling green and facilites reached 5 pounds for the day. Pretty much ALL the management for Aberdeen Leisure were idiots in my opinion who wouldn't last more than a month in a private profit making organisation. Here is an article about the glorious leader at the time Tom McNeil (who I have personally seen spasticated drunk during working hours)
  15. Hello and welcome - if I was you and you were happy with the price I would push the boat out a wee bit and go for 2007 model or higher and go for the 313GT model (thats what I did) I agree that for a 2006 it is a bit overpriced
  16. I'm down visiting a friend for New Year in Edinburgh just now and I went out this morning to walk my dog. I walked past my car which is in a pay and display area and saw that the city council have put on a parking ticket today. Now in Scotland the 3rd and 4th are public holidays and even the Edinburgh city council website states this - - http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/788/co ... dinburgh/3 However after doing a bit of research it looks like the city councils in Scotland have decided to generate some revenue and cash in on unsuspecting motorists and take them to the cleaners with parking charges - - http://findarticles.com/p/news-articles ... n56540909/ There is no way I'm going to pay the fine as the parking meter does not display any information about charges on these days and only by researching this would you find out this information. The joke is that the tickets are issued by 3rd party companies (who I imagine are commission based) and I very much doubt the official council buildings are open today or tomorrow (again if they don't work how can they justify the operation of the parking attendants). I also found a news article from Jan 2009 and this is part of the extract When I finished Uni I worked for the council for a year and hated it. So much waste of tax payers money - I left as I couldn't stand the attitude of "jobs for the boys" and the fact that nobody is ever held accountable for big screw ups. This has totally reinforced my hatred towards councils.
  17. ....and me. My works laptop is on it's last legs as it is and the javascript really spazzes my Firefox :-(
  18. Cheers Guys The 5zigen Pro Racer looks the NUTZ and sounds wonderful - Also been looking at Miltek exhausts and they seem to sound nice, although not as aggressive looking as I'd really want. Pricing on these 2 are just pushing the boat out a bit more and more. Found this item on here http://www.370z-uk.net/forum/viewtopic. ... 07&start=0 This has almost sold the Buddy Club to me (as well as various vids on YouTube) - I'll be getting the wheel/exhaust place down the road from me (Tawse Tyres for those that know the NE Scotland) to do the fitment so I'm happy to read that this exhaust is a more suitable fit. Has anyone got a ballpark figure on what a system fit usually costs? (obviously time to fit dictates a lot of pricing) Thanks for all the responses folks
  19. Hi Guys Got big plans for the zed this year and one of the items I want to upgrade is the exhaust. So after speaking to some folk and reading opinions a lot of folk aren't too keen on the K1 system and say it's a bit loud and boorish, BUT I really like the look of it if I'm honest. All the other systems that folk recommend seem to sound a bit more conservative in comparison but to me look not that much more different to the bog standard exhaust that's on it. I'm willing to spend about in the region of about 600 quid (more or less depending on it ticking all the boxes). Really looking for something that looks badass without setting off all the car alarms in my street when I start her up (like my next door neighbour does when he starts up his Civic with a MENTAL exhaust on it - which I find amusing)
  20. Porsche for me as well - again I think I would rather push the boat out for a 911, whether that means get an older one or spending a bit more cash. Likewise I can see myself owning one at some point in my life. Although personally think the 370z is a better looking car than the Cayman S
  21. Hi guys After talking myself out of selling the zed (due to only being able to drive the car about 8 times in the past month due to all the snow) I've decided I'm gonna treat her to a new set of rims and maybe a new exhaust system. Anyways mine is midnight blue and I've thought about black wheels with silver rim, but not sure how they will look with the car being dark anyways. So of anyone can help me with inspiration I would love to see what you've done. I like the Dotz Hanzo's, but again I'd like to see them on a midnight blue model. Your help is much appreciated
  22. I'm gonna be replacing the head unit soon and after a bit of thought I'm gonna go for the Sat Nav add on afterwards. So this made me wonder what I will do with the empty Cubby hole in the top - does anyone have any inventive or clever uses for this?
  23. Hi Guys I've been thinking of upgrading the bose headunit - mainly to get some sort of sat/nav system and also to do away with the tape player/ipod connection. I had considered Nurrish's satnav system, but I'm really not a fan of FM transmitters and would need to buy a new headunit anyway to get the best out of my ipod. So I like the look of the Pioneer systems best and I'm willing to spend about 600quid on a system. Being a bit of a noob on the subject of headunits I was looking for some recommendations from you guys - should I be looking at Alpine head units or is there some other manufacturer I'm overlooking? All recommendations greatfully recieved :-)
  24. hmmm - I'm looking around the 2k mark for wheels I think (would like to get decent tyres on them as well) Think I'll keep an eye on the forum to see if anyone is selling a nice set! Would love to go to 20" to fill those arches without the need for spacers - but just not sure if it's a good decision and how much it will affect performance and ride handling??
  25. Hi Guys I have an 08 plate 350z and I've read pro's and con's for going for 20" wheels - looks like 19" is the happy medium. I don't want to lower the car, BUT I'd like the wheels to fill the arches! Can anyone recommend somewhere that sells good quality wheels (with or without tyres) - any suggestions recommended. I'm a firm believer in that you get what you pay for.
