  1. Cheers Mark... re: old motor.. had a few mates asking as they want to throw into an escort for fun.. But looking for options, as its a solid motor, running as normal, no damage yet as I stopped running the engine as soon as I heard a faint knock... what options do I have?
  2. Spoke to Pip @ WGT Auto http://www.wgtautodevelopments.co.uk ... Ive used them before for my FTO... great service and they have done a few 350z engine swaps and refurbs... and they will pick the car up from useless Nissan in Oldham! lol. Happy days could be back!
  3. Cheers zmanalex, will get some costs on a low load/mile then at least I can send it somewhere.. Mark, are you talking about WGT Auto (Middlewich) - specialise on RX7's.. but also do other work?
  4. Well after some time, have a replacement engine found and reserved thanks to zmanalex! Tryin to find a garage that will work on an engine out job, as no-one wants to seemingly do one.. is there something I don't know? lol. TDi North don't want it... and I'd prefer someone that has done at least one, as zmanalex has advised that its best its not their first time So sorry to ask again, but been through all the contact details people posted initially... any takers or advice on who 'would' be likely to take it with experience?
  5. Yeah, gonna have a chat with zmanalex tomorrow.. certainly seems like he knows his way around the engine!
  6. Still waiting on a few callbacks .. Paul from TDi-North isnt able to undertake a strip down on 350's.. but gas given me a number for a garage that he rates high that do work on them. Researched Engine World Ltd, who claim to be able to do a replacement refurb for £3500.. but reviews on them are very poor.. poor quality engines, bad service, and hellish warranty support.. lots of trading standards reports.. wide birth for a replacement. Had a bunch of negative emails from parts-finders, so doesnt seem to be many engines around.. unless someone has a garage full of them damn things.. Nissan have rang back with a more comprehensive repair cost for crank replacement.. £3800.. Hopefully tomorrow may bring me a garage that could do the work.. or replacement engine... Apologies if webspace is 'old'.. tend not to update it since its creation..and facebook
  7. Agreed - huge thanks all so far.. waiting for call backs from all that have been mentioned.. I used to be a massive forum person when younger and previous cars, FTO's etc, then with the 350 life just got busy.. although I still do small mods on the car. Had a few trips to the Nurburgring in my 350.. and once on GSXR1000 .. Bit of a pain in timing though as was just starting to look at a move to something else.. 370 is in budget, wish I could justify a GTR.
  8. Really appreciate this guys, PM sent. Will Google Abbey Motorsport and have a chat with Mark.. Replacement engines always worry me... as you dont know what your getting.. but ya never know?!
  9. lol, yeah I wish I had the guts to be 'experimental' ... Simply need to get it fixed.. so ideally looking for options and any positive comments on who I could talk to.. Cheers, Husky. Im from Manchester.
  10. I've owned my 03 350z for 4/5 years, its done 80k miles. As far as history, the only thing to have gone on the motor was the clutch at about 70k.. so its been a good ride till now. Last week I heard a knocking develop from the engine, so I parked it up instantly, and havn't started the engine since. The car is still firing correctly, no misfires or uneven idle. No loss of oil or water. Got the car recovered to a local Nissan dealership in Manchester, who took 3 days to get around to it, and say that "the knocking is defo coming from the engine" .. ?!?!?! erm yeeaaahh .. I knew that. They 'think' its likely to be a crank/bearing issue, and have given me the following options: 1: Short motor replacement - £5500 plus labour of about £750 to remove engine etc.. 2: Remove engine and replace the crank and bearings.. £750 for a crankshaft, £150 for various bearings, and prob £1k+ on labour to do so.. warranty only on the parts changed - which we all know if a major fail occurs, it wont cover the valves etc if they get mashed... Currently, they have not removed or stripped anything down, as soon as they start, Im into a decision that will lead me down their repair routes and costs.. I've rang around a few engineering/refurb companies: Engine World Ltd in Bolton. Full refurb engine replacement, 12 months full warranty on all parts - fitted for £3-3500k .. Engine solutions Ltd in Essex - would strip the engine and replace the crank etc for £3k.. rough price as may involve a rod or 2, although the engine hasnt thrown one yet.. Does anyone have any advice or info that I may find useful..?? Im finding myself in very unfamiliar territory Cheers!
