First of all let me just explain that i am a Managing Director of an I.T. company.
any way, so they phone me,
convo goes something like this.
Me : Hello
Him : Hello this is ****** calling from microsoft
Me : yes, ok
Him : sir we have detected you PC is generating error reports
Me : ohh i see, so microsoft are collecting data on their customers, should you really be doing that, saying as i have never regestered my
Microsoft products, how did you get this number.
so at this point i already know that something is not right here, but i'll let it go and see what happens.
Him : Sir you PC has Viruses.
Me : Which is it, you told me you received an error report, so do i now also have a virus now, ohh ****ing @*!# bollox, what should i do?
Him : sir, you have a virus
Me : what ive got the virus now? how did this happen?
Him : No sir you computer has a virus,
Me : thank God, it's only my computer, so you got an error report from my pc telling you that it has a virus?
Him : yes Sir you computer has a virus, but we can,
ME : What i can't hear you, i'm cutting the grass,
Him : Sir can you hear me?
Me : I start shouting as load as i can "you wee bastards get the **** off my grass"
Him : Sir, sir
Me : yes?
Him : so sir you have a virus, you computer has told us.
Me : ohh sweet jusus, i have the virus? you told me it was my computer.
Him : Sir, Sir, we got a report from your computer, you have a virus.
Me : are you sure about this? because i have a really really big firewall.
Him : yes Sir the virus is on you computer and we got a report.
Me : So you're saying my computer has a virus and not me, so i'm ok then?
Him : Sir yes, you computer has a virus and we can..
Me : you can what? i can't hear you, i'm talking a ****.
Him : hello sir?
Me : Yes Hello, who is this?
Him : I told you Sir i am **** from Microsoft.
Me : and what's this about then.
Him : Sir your computer has virus
Me : I am so gald you called me, I've been in the Computer busniess like 15 years and you really seem to know your stuff.
Him : Sir?
Me : I'm telling you, you actually phoned an I.T. Company and you're speaking to the Managing Director, we could be doing with people like you, you sound like you know about computer and the interweb.
Him : ehh, aaa, Sir but sir.
Me : What?
Him : .................................... line goes dead.

Looks like good fun Martin and nice to see this kind of behaviour in a controlled environment for a change
I am sure others are thinking the same but what does getting your diff shimmed mean/involve?
Cheers,
Matt
It's great fun lol
I got my diff shimmed to tighten it up, so both my rear wheels can lock up, when I want to have a bit of fun. You can’t have fun with a one wheeler lol
So it’s either, buy a good two way diff or the cheaper option, and get your diff shimmed.
Basically to shim a diff, you remove it from its casing, break it down and then add some shims, these are really just washers, it’s always trial and error, It can end up to tight, which can make every day driving very hard, as both rear wheels turn at the same speed, so it’s better to have a wee bit of give.
A few points to note.
1 : shimming a diff can decrease the life of a diff. But I’ve yet to see or find out by how much, most of my friends drive R33 skylines and S14s, the ones with out 2 way diffs, shim their diffs too and have had no problems since I’ve know them.
2 : The shims will not last, I’ve had mine shimmed twice in 8 months, the tighter the diff – the quicker the shims wear.
3 : It’s very hard to get it right, it’s a case of shimming the diff and trying it out.
4 : If you have two shims that are half the width of a larger one and you put the two thinner ones in, this will not give the same tightness as using one thick one that’s the same thickness as the two thinner ones, if you know what I mean lol
Here’s a wee bit of reading.

I got my diff shimmed again, so I thought I’d test it out, still not perfect, I need it tighter.
Here’s the result lol

Ok I’m going to step in here lol
I owned a modified Focus ST near 300Bhp
A Friend of mine owns a New Focus RS, she has it modified and soon will be 370Bhp or more,
I now own a 350Z, so I’d like to think I know what I’m talking about,
You cannot compare an ST or and RS to a standard focus,
Totally different cars that just happen to look similar.
My ST was a bitch with torque steer and could not get the power down in the wet, but by god it was fast, My friends RS has no torque steer at all, yep I said it, not one bit, foot full to the board round a corner, no torque steer and no wheel spin, not one bit, it stuck to the road, I could not believe it, both the ST and especially the RS are fantastic cars, for what they are.
But but but, the 350Z is rear wheel drive and now a days that’s what I care about, I’m not so much into power and speed any more, for me it’s all about getting the tail out, bit of drifting and some doughnuts – that’s where all the fun is, so would I ever buy another front wheel drive car? No matter how much power or good looks it had, hopefully not, I’m sticking with RWDs
But if the new RS had of been 4WD well then, I might not be in a 350z now lol
And just one other wee thing, my 350Z might also have trouble getting the power down in the wet but at least I can have fun putting it sideways while trying to lol

I put my 350Z on the rolling road today,
After the run, My ABS light was on and my traction control would not turn on, i started and stopped the car a few time but no luck, luckly enough - one of the fellas with us had his laptop and software to connect to my car, he just reset the error codes and all was well again lol anyone else have this happen to them?
so any way, i'm happy with my result.
It's a 2005 with 48000 miles and the only engine mod is an induction kit. and i put some octane booster in lol
286.3HP @ 6357Rpm
258.2Lbf @ 4725Rpm

8 pages and I enjoyed reading all of it,
So where do I come in
Well, let’s see.
No mater if that guy is good at drifting or not, what he did was illegal; drifting “going sideways†on a main roundabout is NOT safe driving on the roads.
I have done a few roundabouts, but at night, clear roads, no traffic, off the main roads and people keeping an eye out for any on coming traffic, if there is any other traffic – you stop, it’s that simple.
I have also been known to drift on two roads that are in an industrial estate; same again, we go in groups of no more than 10 cars and people at either end, keeping an eye out for other traffic, this also happens at night, when these places are empty of other road users. Also my car is usually sideways coming out of every junction but again it’s not hard to check if the road is clear before I let the ass out.
Drifting and Diffing is fun and I enjoy doing it
No matter how good you are at handling you car, when your drifting it’s so easy to loose control. So I’d just like to add – keep to wide roads in industrial estates and make sure there’s no other traffic about or tracks, if you can afford it
I don’t speed or race on the roads, I have my fun other ways

i have the same problem, but i gave up trying to find it lol,
now i just rev more and the noise covers up the rattle lol
but seriously at the start it did my head in, now i think i'm used to it.
-
that is one lovely looking Z, the wheels realy suite it, and love the green lip, as said - just lower it a bit, but even as it is, it's very nice
-
Thought the 350 had a viscous coupling in the diff.... couldn't you just get a thicker type of fluid in that?
yep it does, nope - thicker oil will not make it any better
