Thanks peeps, but I think I'm really going to struggle finding the cash. Bad news is that this equals not pilots license and some boring dead end desk job, + side is that I get to keep the Z and supercharge the tits out of it!
-
Just waiting for the parts to come in. I think that there will most likely be a 1 month wait between payment and receiving. If there's a definite demand I may try and bulk buy some components, but this will cost loads!
-
Those PIAA ones are really good, but I only bothered with them on the front. They put a layer of silicon on the screen so the rain just beads off.
-
Did you guys use a steering wheel puller to get the wheel off or did it come off easily by pulling? Also did you replace the torx bolts or reuse (manual says to replace).
Jim
Just a tap with the palm from behind has it off and I didn't get new bolts. It's not like you're changing a cylinder head when you do it, they're like any other bolts, just more awkward! lol

Must be a facelift thing, mine are on the switches.
-
I had mine off for the same reason. Just used a fine grit paper to take all the lacquer off and it looks fine now. Taking them off takes about 10 mins in total.

Selling the Z, The Super Charger kit, the Rota alloys, remortgaging my house and changing to an interest only option, using all my savings and getting an epic loan to fund....
....an ATPL (Air Transport Pilots License). These are what the pilots that take you on holiday hold and although they're on mega pay, they usually all got there via rich mummy and daddy. I'm stumping up the cash myself.... all of roughly £120,000 including a type rating.
The next few years of my life are going to be poo, but I'll return with either a GTR or a Z that's been on a heavy diet and twin turbo'd in a few years
-
No ones asked tbh, to buy the parts from maplin would probably cost more and ordering from places like RS means you'd have 20 fuse, 25 fuse holders etc as they only deal in bulk!
-
The line under the lights on the facelift extends past it on the face lift, but stops flush with on the pre 06.
-
Sorry if this upsets anyone who was planing to do this in the near future, but I've had to raise the price, due to the cost of components and the postage rising by silly amounts. Still next to nothing compared to other mods though!

Nothing, as soon as you start the car, relay 1 receives power from the temporary live and the switch works just as normal.
-
The best thing would be if all those who are intelligent and hold good jobs emigrated, leaving just benefit spongers here, the you'd get the same effect that happens in the film 'Idiocracy'. It's hilarious
Remember an American moaning that he had to pay over $2 a gallon.... I quickly addressed him.

Take the 3 most expensive items to the counter then pay getting the cheapest item free and repeat several times!
-
I used to use the pressure washer, but find I get the same results with a hozelock spray gun thing and it takes less time as you don't have to arse about setting it up. Save the money and spunk it on two buckets, a sheep wool mitt thing and the worlds allocation of maguires waxey cleaney stuff.
Then bask in the shininess!

My clutch makes a creak when depressed and crunches if moved from 5th to 6th quickly. It's done it for about 15k miles now and hasn't got any worse.
-
I'm working on a new solution too. It's going to be epic if I can pull it off.
-
could the torq pick error codes on your car? dont think that worked on my jdm one.
Apparently it can, but I'm unsure how well it does.

What will be involved for internet access, is this just an off the shelf plug in dongle?
Either:
A plug in USB dongle
a Three MiFi dongle (these create there own wireless network)
A mobile phone that can create a hotspot, the Iphone can, but I imagine other smart phones can too.
Rob Macdonalds blind of there free wifi, while you're smashing a big mac in your grid!
Here's a few pics from what I've been emulating.
The dials can be edited and moved, there's about 50 different ones to pick from. As this is the free one it has ads, the full version doesn't.

This is why I've ordered the parts for my car to check it all out. I'm going to use the 'torque' app for OBD2 info and won't need a front end as it already has a car mode with big buttons for car driving sausage fingers
I've loaded the SDK (Software Developers Kit) on the mac and have been running various apps via the emulator on my computer to see what they're like. Looking good so far and if that front end doesn't work, I'll make my own
From what I've seen, windows CE is very limited and has stability issues if you want to do anything even mildly taxing!

There's a link in the general forum:

but it's probably more appropriate in here.
Thanks to slimjim for the video.
-There are 3 wires to splice and 2 wires to cut. It's not the hardest thing to do, but you will need some tools such as a 10mm socket, some glue, pliers etc. I'll be shortly posting a noddy guide soon though.
-You still retain control of the mirrors via the switch when the ignition is on (engine running)
-As the switch is not made when the car is locked, there is no current drain.
- A guide is available here: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=46480 , but installation is available if you can make it to Chesterfield.
If you're interested, just PM me.
- There are also other various threads about this:

Glad it works well. Out of all of them the only issue that I've heard of is a blown fuse on fitting and a broken copper track when the unit was pulled away from it's sticky foam. Not bad for 40+ units!

Powering on when the cubby opens sounds good, I'd not thought of that. On the button cover that I've seen there's two screw holes that look a bit pap. I was going to put a power on button in one and a rocker switch that would switch on a the reverse camera while you're driving, switch it the other way and it'll come on when you select reverse.
As for the power, you don't have to worry about that, I'm putting this in an enclosure which will contain everything, not like the last one in my car that was held together with cable ties and bodge tape
Husky, I've actually got a surround for a pre 06 Z that doesn't have the fold up flap. I'll get some pics closer to finishing it.
-
Nah, I'll provide a little blutooth thingy that plugs into the OBD2 port that talks to the sat nav unit. It'll be an option extra though as not everyone will want OBD2 info...or maybe they will?
-
It will connect to the OBD2 via Bluetooth. No wires, Winner!
big thanks to Keyser
